  1. Hello, Look in Lexus Workshop, page 2-Caliper slide pin replacement article by Tigerfish. The noise you describe sounds just like I had on my Mk 4, a single loud(very)crack, and these turned out to be the culprits. This was about 3 years ago and at the time the new ones from Lexus were around £20 each.It appears that you can get a rust spot that causes the pin to stick. Hope it turns out to be as simple as this on your car. Pete
  2. Hello, Steve, if the mark 4 you're thinking of is Chris Skeltons you would certainly know you would be getting a well looked after car. The peace of mind you would get knowing the history is worth paying for. IF he will sell! Pete
  3. Hello, I have a LS430 and last December I had the 10yr/100k service done, this includes the cambelt change, at Lexus Wolverhampton at a cost of £516 which I thought was brilliant. A fellow club member could not quite match that price but had the same job done at Lexus Birmingham for just over £600. I would have thought the cost would be similar for the RX. It pays to shop around as said earlier and don't be hesitant in asking for a discount. Times are hard and they want/need your custom. Pete
  4. Hello, The thing is that this is a trader, SO what was he so desperate to get rid of that he took this in part exchange. I assume it was a p/x cos surely he wouldn't have bought it!!!!
  5. Hello, I have had the same experience but, as George has said, I find not putting the nozzle all the way in solves the problem. It seems as if this allows more air to flow out as the petrol goes in. Pete
  6. Hello, I'm sure you'll have found it by now but the button that sldes the squab back and forwards- along with the lumbar support- can make quite a difference. In my case moving it forward made it that bit more comfy. Pete
  7. Hello, Due to problems with my knee, I am finding it difficlt to get out of the car and therefore am going to have to get something higher. It's the best car I have ever owned and I don't really want it to go. I know this is not the best time to sell a car this size and I doubt I will get get much joy in a part exchange so I will try Autotrader etc. So what do you think is a fair(realistic) price? It is a 2001 LS430 in Bordeau red with cream interior. 83k and service history, recently had 10 year service and cam belt change. It has the premium pack and everthing works just as it should. What would you ask in the ad? The only good news is the RX seems to fit the bill. Pete
  8. Hello, is it all the dash lights or just the sat nav? I know the sat nav goes up and down according to the light level so as not to cause too much glare, but I didn't think the rest did. Pete
  9. Hello, Good question. How about you donate £5 to cancer research? If that's ok pm with your address and I'll post it to you. Pete
  10. Hello, Just been having a tidy in my shed and have found a cd cartridge which i thought i'd left in my previous 400 when I sold it. On the box it has 86273-50050. I know it's for a mk 3 and 4 (in dash units)cos I used it in both. If anyone's interested in doubling their on the move CD choice let me know. Pete
  11. Sorry, yes its 100k miles OR 10 years whichever occurs first. Pete
  12. Hello, Just to show we read all the forums,-- The belt change on the LS430 is 100k/10years. I have no idea why it should be any different on the SC as I assumed it was the same engine. Pete
  13. No washers are not heated nor are the wipers, at least not on UK models. Pity really. Pete
  14. Hi, I agree with Steve, don't be put off by the mileage as long as the history is good. With regard to the 2001 car, my 2001 has done 81,251 miles so the mileage is not that low and again the history should offer proof. Pete
  15. That's not right. I spoke to Madelaine who told me the price and said that included the belt change. When I said "that price includes the cam belt?" she said hang on while I check then came back and confirmed it. I did not speak to the service manager or any one else til I took in the car. On my arrival the paperwork was completed and I confirmed the price. Later in the day someone (can't remember the name but Martin seems to rind a bell)rang to say the car was ready for collection and that only extra work was for two wiper rubbers which i was not charged any extra for. The only other person I saw was a salesman when I col;lected the car on the saturday morning. I am thinking that someone got it wrong and they don't want to say so. Glad you got sorted out at Birmingham, think I'll give them a ring when next service due though to be fair I've never had any problems with Wolverhampton- been going there 5 years-and Birmingham have always quoted more in the past. Pete
  16. Hello, Just got out the invoice from 3/12/10 to confirm total charge of £516.21 for the 10year/100k service which includes the timing belt change. My car is a 2001 and on the bill it records the mileage as 80068. Could it be that as your car is that much newer it doesn't qualify for what I assumed was a special price for the 10 year service? --- if so it seems weird. Wonder if they simply made a mistake in my favour, but then again it was nearly 2 weeks from the quote to having the work done so I'd have thought it would have been spotted. I must admit that I was so pleased/amazed with the price I didn't ask for any further discount. Incidentlty Ifty having seen your car (top of Himley Road)-great number plate. Pete
  17. Hello, Looks good to me. Service history and recent Cam belt change worth a lot as far as future expense is concerned. Looks like the wheels have been refurbed too. I like the colour but obviously that is down to taste. Insurance is steep but I suppose you suffer cos of being in Manchester, Makes my £287 premium look good, the one advantage of getting old. Hope you enjoy your new car. Pete
  18. Hello, I've had a mark 3 which did 21-22mpg in general use and 31mpg on motorways keeping to around 70-80mph. My mark 4 was brilliant and averaged 25mpg generally and 35mpg on motorways, again around 70-80mph. The 430 is not so good and has averaged 23.4mpg over the last 7000 miles, yesterday I went to West Winch in Norfolk, along M42, M6, A14, A605 and A47 doing speed limit where possible on the A roads and again around 80 on the motorways. Total of 332 miles and traffic was generally flowing well. I brimmed the tank when I started and again this morning, it has worked out at 27.7mpg. All cars were/are well maintained and I have not quoted computer read outs which on the mark 4 and the 430 give around 2mpg better. Pete Ps I think the IS looks good, just not big enough for my taste/waistline, but at 19/20mpg I don't think I could afford to run one.Perhaps it's a case of the bigger engine not working so hard?
  19. Hello, In 2007 I purchased a car from Lexus Wolverhampton and at the time they had a saturday morning car wash club. I could take my car in and it would be washed and vac'd whilst I enjoyed a cup of coffee in the showroom. I no longer live in the area so I don't know if this still happens. Could the sticker be referring something similar? Pete
  20. Hello everyone, Every year since I turned 50,I've tried Saga for insurance. They have always been too expensive. Good I think to myself, it means I'm too young for them! Guess what, this morning they have quoted me £57 less than anyone else. I am now officially OLD . I didn't mind the expanding waistline, the going grey and bald, but this is really upsetting. Just to let you know they have charged £287 for LS430, fully comp, protected no claims and £250 excess. Pete
  21. Hi Guys, As someone who has owned a mk 2, mk 3, mk4 and currently a 430, and at the risk of upsetting people, I think what you should do is; Run the one you have until the tax and mot run out. At this point decide what you want to do You won't get any more if you scrap one with mot or without, BUT,in the mean time why not have a good long, relaxed search for a really good mk4? Between £2-3K should get you one. I honestly feel that the 430 is a better car(though not as good looking at the front). It feels a bit faster, and handles better with far less roll in corners than the earlier models. Its better equiped and,-personal opinion- I like that. It may cost more to maintain in the future IF things go wrong, remember they may not and on here we tend to hear the bad news rather than the good. Normal service costs are no higher, but the "potential" extra cost is the price you pay for what we are told is progress. Everything seems to be getting more complicated. If you decide you don't want a 430 then based on my experience the mk 4 is the one to aim for. It was faster than the earlier models with 260 bhp and perhaps due to the 5 speed box was more economical too. I preferred the front end style and also I liked the sat nav built in though the updated discs are a bit expensive. What ever you decide be happy to know you will be driving one of the best cars you can get. Pete
  22. Hello. Just to prove that some LS owners will read this. :P However I only have a 430 so do not have the problem. Pete
  23. Hi, Sorry Mike but I can honestly say I've never heard mine. I don't understand how a noise can be said to be normal when one of the Lexus selling points is the quietness and refinement it offers. Nornal would surely be if all the cars made a noise, not just yours and a single RX which happens to be there. Pete
  24. Welcome and congratulations on your choice of car, I sold my mk3 4 years ago when it too had done 198k. My neighbour bought it off me, its now done 232k and still sounds and goes perfectly. Pete
