  1. [it was only the next day that I recalled an incident during my handover of the car at the garage. While running through some of the many features on the car the salesman invited me to turn the ignition to start it and when it would not turn he advised that the steering lock was engaged and a slight wiggle of the wheel was required ! Doh !!!!!! I have had no further problems and believe this was the cause of my inital failure. Gripping the steering wheel while fumbling under the dash must have moved it enough. Embarrassed as I am to relay this schoolboy error I hope it may be of some use. Dell Er, I did the same thing a few months ago but what was worse was that it happened when I had just filled up with petrol. I actually went in to say I was sorry for blocking up the fore court-talk about embarassing! However after another few minutes of cussing my wife said "I usually wiggle the wheel in my car if the key won't turn, I suppose that won't help". It helped but I've not been allowed to forget that she "mended the Lexus". Pete
  2. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. At the end of the day, this is the way I see it - I am paying to insure the car for what it's worth so being a Cat D shouldn't affect it. I could be wrong? No you are not wrong. My neighbour has bought, fixed and sold cat D ( and sometimes Cat C ) for years. He is always up front when he sells and takes before and after pictures which he gives to the buyer. No one has ever had a problem with insurance and several people have been back and bought again. As said earlier IF the repairs are done correctly there is no problem.
  3. Perhaps the seller has been reading this and has seen what you were willing to pay?
  4. I have a 2001 and the light is on with the ignition and off after the engine starts. Sorry as this is probably not what you want to hear.
  5. Oooops, pressed the wrong button, If you send me your address i'll send you a pair. (they are actually earlyToyota MR2).
  6. Hi, It's a D2R and I'd get one from ebay. Prices range from about £20 up to £70.Lexus Dealers price was £142 when I asked last year and that didn't include fitting.
  7. Hello, I'm not sure what you call it but it is available from lexus dealers at around £40. Its a bit fiddly to fit (Held on by 5 small bolts), but takes about 1 hour. Pete
  8. How new is the newer disc Daniel? I was going to fork out the dosh but when I checked I think the dvd they were going to send me was 2007, and no-one at Lexus could say when or if they would produce another one compatible with the 2001 LS430 Mike I got a new disc last month (for my 2001 LS), and it states it is 2009/2010. It certainly has a newly built estate on which wasn't there prior to 2009. If you want I'll get it out and check the part numbers tomorrow. Pete
  9. Hi, Just to confirm, I had a new disc delivered by lexus mapupdates last week. It took just over 2 weeks to arrive at a cost of 159 euros. You can also try www.cheaptoyotaparts.
  10. Hi, I used red LEDs but i think you can now get bulbs that look silver but light up red.
  11. Try www.lextasy.com A bit expensive but good quality stuff. When i bought from them the exchage rate was around $1.80/£1 which made things much better value.
  12. Throttle body needs cleaning. It's quite a common problem. Having air con on as you come down the slip road can help as it raises the tick over speed.
  13. Hello, I can only see the storage trays on my seats too. Quote "Just a thought as the motor blows the air through the seats does this make passing wind whilst seated a much more traumatic experience for yourself and passengers as it get blown and therefore evenly distributed around the car" I'd never thought of this potential problem, does this mean I have to give up curries?
  14. It's cos of my lights. :winky: Glad they were of benefit to a guy who takes such care of his car. Pete Did you have to modify the rear inner clusters to fit as the US spec ones are wider due to the type of number plate used, I think my Celsior is the same with it being a JDM model The lights came from Lextacy.com in California, They were advertised as LS400 95-97 and fitted straight on. This company still sells them but with the current exchange rate (and price increase), they are over twice as much as they were. I just thought I still have the clear repeaters in the garage(Mat didn't need them), so if you do let me know. Pete
  15. Yeah, that doesn't sound right. It should still open easily when you lift it. Jon Mines the same too, really heavy to lift but very light to close.
  16. It's cos of my lights. :winky: Glad they were of benefit to a guy who takes such care of his car. Pete
  17. Ooops! Just realised I didn't say that the 36 was the computer figure. When ever I checked by filling to the brim it was usually around 2 mpg less. Still a good result for the size of the car. quote " have a mk-iii, with 85 L tank. I have just been to Cornwall and back, no stopping and on cruise control. I got 530 miles, at 60-65mph and upon return got 75L into the tank, which is 32mpg." Thats about what I would have got from the mk 3 i had. The mk 4 is more economical with its vvti engine and 5 speed box which gives it slightly higher gearing. I assume no one would achieve the theoretical max range as no one would literally drive until they ran out of petrol.
  18. Just to be awkward but the 430 has a 60cm/24" wiper on the drivers side!
  19. I have just (today) swapped my mk4 for a 430. It had done 134k with full Lexus service history(19 stamps), and MOT til next July. The cam belt was changed at 123k as were the plugs, transmission fluid, coolant etc. Everything worked except for temperature light on drivers side and the cup holder had stuck in. Wheels needed attention but weren't too bad and had a couple of stone chips on the bonnet. Looking at what other club members have paid I consider I got a good price having sold it for £2,250. I had asked £2,500. I was offered £2,000 in p/ex but had £750 knocked off the 430 with no p/ex. On this basis I think £1750 is way too expensive for what you are being offered. ManicMark's value is much more realistic. Pete
  20. Hi, The tank holds 85 litres and at 70mph my mk4 did around 36mpg. These are the ideal car for long distance cruising, spend time looking for a good one and you won't regret the effort. Pete
  21. I think the later ones let you enter a house number, for me its just to have a more up to date map Hello' According to the booklet I got with the disc: House number input different scales available (and screen certainly seems clearer) You can re-calculate the complete route at any point in your jouney You can delete and/or add way points as you go There is now an option to give toll road and/or motorway priority plus more up to date maps. Pete.
  22. Hello, I am getting a 430 next weekend and have put my original disc back in. I have a 2007/2008 version which I bought late last year for £116. I was going to put it on ebay. I was looking for £50 including postage.. It is a genuine disc and on it states it is suitable for LS/GS/IS. I also have a new aerial mast which I never got round to fitting if anyone wants one for the cost of the postage. Pete
