  1. Indicated 143Mph on Tomtom, speedo read well into 160's. I shan't say where, lets just say I was i a hurry Although there may have been a slight tailwind, but I was on pretty level "tarmac".
  2. Kind of like this: If you have original ipod touch packaging, the plastic it comes in fits perfectly into the gap by handbrake, then I just ran a cable from the headphone port under the centre console and around to a tape device that plays it through the stereo (wasn't aware of this grommit device thing - might look into it now! Its a little hairy looking down at the handbrake trying to select music, I recommend setting up a could of playlists before you go!
  3. To practise my driving technique hard and make it into F1 of course! :winky:
  4. Ok guys, ive got size 13 feet, but no matter how hard i try, I can't seem to heal and toe consistently in my IS200, ever! am I the only one or does anyone else struggle!
  5. Ive played around with driving with / without "snow" mode on and I can't say I can notice a lot of difference! Apart from maybe the throttle mapping is a bit less sensiive (not that its all that responsive to begin with) but apart from that I can't feel anything! Also, why can i have trc off AND snow mode on at the same time? Why would I want to tell my car "Just to let yo know I'm driving on snow, but don't bother doing anything about it if I lose grip!"
  6. Does anyone actually use thier headlight jets?! I can honestly say ive never seen any kind of improvement using them!
  7. I take it your a salesman then what you sell I'm an I.T Consultant, but ave just moved consultancies and have to rebuild my client base - hense no commission the month all the expenses come at once! I can't beleive Ive had it a year, seems like yesterday I was picking her up and joining this forum!
  8. Well, I just relised that my insurance and tax ran out at the end of last month, so have had to declaire my IS off the road for the time being, as I dont have £1000 to pay for both. Then, when taking it off the road, I noticed that the brake warning light was on.. after some fiddling there is the sound of air being released from the brke peddle if i press it down peddle down sharply. :tsktsk: I had the brake peddle tightened up 10 weeks or so ago, because i noticed the peddle was getting a little long, so i guess i hae a leak in the system somewhere and lots of air in the brake system. Not good. It also needs a full service soon so I'm looking at a good month or two's hard graft and hopefully get a good £2k commission next month before shes back on the road. I'm now filling the Lexus void in my life with daily visits to this forum!!
  9. The tickets have been ordered and paid for, you will all be able to purchase tickets soon. Put me down for 1 ticket please! Never one anything like this before - will be good to meet some other is200 owners and see what to spend my next 3 commission checks on!!
  10. I actually removed my spare wheel altogether, and replaced it with a can of that emergency foam, I have found the front keener to turn in, but I wouldn't call it "tail happy"!! I was suprised just how heavy the spare wheel was, so i figured removing it could only improve handling/performance! I also just had 4 Avon ZZ3 tyres fitted, which have improved the handling in wet and dry no end! I think removing the spare tyre was the best mod ive done - and its free!!
  11. Sounds good - I'll be throwing some money your way Tony! I'm thinking front and rear anti roll bars fitted and geo tune! Just have to get some Goodyear Eagle F1's on first - hope its not too soon or could be a very expensive month....
  12. My front right brake squeeks - i replaced the stock pads with mintex extreme around 2 months (600 miles) ago, but the squeek has returned. I thought i may have got through the pad but I do very few miles and don't really race about/brake hard when i do drive! Anyone got any ideas as to what i could be? The squeek happens from 5mph-30mph regardless of cold/warm brakes?
  13. Am I the only one who has left sorely disappointed by the mintex extreme pads?! I ran than on my (pretty much) stock is200, replaced my old pads with the mintex because I had a squeek on my front right wheel (figured the brakes need replacing). I had the brake pedal tightened at the same time, within 2 months the brake pedal is really long again and the squeek has come back! - does this mean ive worn the pads already? I only drive evenings and weekends and dont really push the car to its limits!!? I could be wrong - any ideas what the squeek could be when I brake!? (i bought the pads new from ebay)
  14. I want to get a quote for mine too dave! Its a sport, running on Tein S tec springs (around 350mm drop) ive been recommended a trip to yourself by a fair few people to look at my geomatry! Question is, how much!?
  15. Dammit!! Just ordered them from prolex for £191!! Never mind! Bought a pack of mintex brake pads from e-bay (powerseller %100 feedback) for £36 (for 8). Going to run them on the standard brake pads for the time being, after all the standard pads arnt that bad, and it may just be that i need them adjusting! Been quoted £220 to fit the springs and pads at my local garage, no idea if this is good or not?! Next up is a trip to see the doc to get the geomitry sorted, then lets get some more power through the beast! Thanks for the offer tho mate! Much appreciated! Will be at the next meet you have somewhere near Bristol (pref!!) Take care all
  16. Thanks guys, have opted for the mintex pads, gonna run them on the standard disks for the moment, see how that goes! As for suspention, i think the TEIN lowering springs look good, can only them for £191 tho which seems a bit steep!! :(
  17. Found the problem! Mine seems to be a dodgy connection from the CD player. When it cuts out, try hitting (yes hitting, quite hard!!) the right hand side, of the side of the CD player (does that make any sense!) i usually use my left leg to knock it with the side of my knee, and this (sometimes) hits the connector back into place! Having lexus look at it next saturday, it seems to me like a simple case of the connector working loose! I'll keep you posted.
  18. Ive heard that the Is cant have the ECU remapped? Also guys, wanted to know if i can put 220/240bhp through the standard clutch / gearbox or will it destroy it!? Defo going to get an Induction kit / sports exhaust, but i want to avoid the turbo/supercharger route if i can because of work, cost and insurance!! Could stretch to a racing clutch if needed but i dont really want to swap the transmission! And theres no way im buying another engine for it!!
  19. wow guys thanks alot for the help! Its so funny, ive been a total petrol head as long as i can remember, i can reel off stats and details about pretty much any (good) car out there, then, when i bought my first car (the lex, i was in uni and couldnt afford anything until now) i suddenly relised i didnt know the first thing about modding! Yet ask me how turbo/supercharges work and i can talk all day!! Ill defonatly check out the websites, and I'm sold on the Mintex pads/disks! Have around £1000 to spend, if i can get the suspention lowered (i take it its just the lowering springs i need, not a full coilover kit?) and the brakes bought (and fitted!) then i'll be a happy man! Also, can any garage fit suspention / brakes, or will i need to go to some kind of specialist "modding" shop!? (you can see i really dont have a clue!) As for pics, its just a standard IS200 in blue with cream leather and very subtle window tints, so i didnt really see the point! but as soon as the sun comes out (and i clean it) I'll have some pics for you to marvel at my stock IS!!! Thanks again for the help guys!
  20. Hi guys, Just got my IS200 (2001) but theres a couple of things i want to do. First, i want to drop it about 3cm, however i dont really want the suspension to feel much stiffer, as i think the balance is about right as it is. Ive seen "lowering springs", full coilover kits and all sorts, what do i need to buy just to drop the ride height a bit, and if i just go for lowering springs, will the car bottom out? I'm also not that impressed with the standard brakes, if i want more stopping power, can i just upgrade the pads (looking at buying "red stuff" pads, or will i need to upgrade the calipers, brake disks hoses etc aswell? I'm not looking for racing performance, i just want a little more stopping power! And onto my final question (and i know this is the wrong place to post it!).. I'm looking for an induction kit to give it a little more power. Can anyone recommend a kit/price/website for any of the above! Any advice on websites/companys i can goto to check out stuff would be much appreciated, redline / max power ads have little / no parts listed for lexuses!! Thanks in advace! Luke
  21. Guys, just bought a 2001 IS200 sport, yet im having problems with the Cd player (not the usual "wont play CD's trick either!") i can play, load and eject disks no worries (even home made ones) but the sounds just from speaker to speaker, and if, say, i take a fast left hand turn, the music will be thrown to the front left speaker (kind of where the G force is going!!) Its very odd, and only does it with the CD, not radio! any ideas!?
  22. I was wondering the same thing (more BHP), just bought an IS 200 sport (blue, cream interior) I think i want to get to around 200/220 BHP for the moment, i was thinking of going down the classic "induction kit / ECU remap" route. Anyone got any thoughts on products, prices, websites and most importantly, where i can get it all done (im in Bristol) Thanks all, Baller
