  1. Thanks for this post, reminded me to check mine. 15,000 miles, Bridgestone Turanzas on 18 inch wheels. Inflated to 35 front and 38 rear as per handbook. 90% of mileage with passenger and no luggage. Wear is even across rear at 5mm and front at 6mm.
  2. It's 12 months and a few days since I took delivery of the car. After taking an age to make up my mind and driving all the competition I had very high expectations, in fact after being continually told by members of the forum what a wonderful car it was my expectations were higher than for any car I've ever owned. All I can say is that they have been exceeded. Every time I get in the car it feels good, it's one of the few things in life which is consistent. When anyone travels in the car they are amazed at the quietness and refinement. I could go on and on but I think you have probably got the message.
  3. You really think that they have increased the price after what i wrote!!!!. Lexus dealers are mostly run by big PLC companies. Weekly price checks are done every to ensure that their stock is competitively priced. Sometimes we get it wrong and the last thing big companies want is to under sell a car. You decided to accept the offer that they made nobody forced you. It is up to them to decide how much they sell that car for car. You can see why outside of work i never tell anybody what i do for a living as they automatically think you are a bit of sh@t. There are some honest genuine people in the trade who just want to make a sensible living and do a good job but the minority of idiots give us all a bad name. Come on Fg, chin up, be proud of what you do, there are lots worse occupations. I know many very nice car sales persons.
  4. Yep, we've all been there, you're preaching to the converted. It's simple, drive what you can afford to buy and pick the one you like best. You'll really enjoy your Lexus.
  5. 2009 250 sel auto, 18" wheels. Handbook says 35f 38r so that's what I do. I tend to think the handbook knows best.
  6. Coming up to six months of ( touch wood ) trouble free ownership. A delight to drive, relaxing beyond belief. Looked at the models you mention, all very good cars hence the reason Lexus have to work so hard to produce a car to challenge them. I tried them all many times but always came back to the Lexus. I originally tried it just for the sake of it, not expecting anything out of the ordinary. I enjoy it more and more the better I get to know it and have no regrets. When my friends, who own some of the cars you mention, travel in my car they all have one thing in common, they are all very quiet, probably deep in thought, and one is getting a 250 auto when his C Class goes back in the summer.
  7. Are you surprised Steve? What are fairygodmother's famous for........ telling fairy tales of course!
  8. You don't mess about do you, a man of action. Hope your luck changes and you quickly find something suitable.
  9. Oh dear, know what it feels like, happened to me twice in four years back in the 80's. Sounds like you've got your priorities right though. Cars are becoming more and more expensive to run due to motorists being mugged by the exchequer in an attempt to solve all the countries dire financial problems. Hope something comes along for you in these difficult times and thanks for your many posts.
  10. None of the above. The simple fact is, you get a better class of vandal in the South Cotswold's! Just found out I have Sade as a near neighbour, as well as Liz Hurley and Keith Allen. Guess they're fed up of getting their cars keyed There you go and I thought it was a salect area. Would say you've a good chance of getting your council tax reduced.

  12. Cool, thanks steve, I'll look for he hack on here, as for the smell i think its down he car not having a clean for a while, hopefully the guys at Glasgow will do a good job. Think i'll need parking sensors fitted, once i've got the car i'll speak to lexus bolton to see how much they will charge. Thanks again Vinny To have parking sensors fitted was about £800 a few years ago and for that you got 4 at the front and 4 at the back.
  13. Yes. You must be relieved you were driving a car with so many safety features enabling you still to be here to make this posting.
  14. Tango, what went wrong with your steering rack? Well nothing tbh, it was changed out under a Lexus general recall. Same reason for the seat belts and petrol pipe. The rear calipers had been seized for some time before it was noticed on a service, so just as well I had the BBK on the front . Both rear calipers were changed under warranty, and when the problem became a general recall they were changed out again for the updated ones. With the speed sensors and now the mirror, I've lost the 'bullet proof' feeling I have with the IS200. Looks like paying for an extended warranty is the best course of action. Can't help as regards the mirrors as, touch wood, had no problems of any sort yet. The cars ( 250's) have a good reliability record but there are so many "extras" on this car that if I keep it for more than three years I will definately follow your advice and purchase an extended warranty.
  15. Rory, I had a real go at them, but, as I'm a bit older, I just don't have the energy to go in to battle with them. Fully understand what you mean. Unfortunately there are lot's of "Arnold Clark's" around.
  16. Don't know whether or not Lexus Aberdeen are owned by a large motor group but I've found dealing with smaller, privately owned dealers ( if you can find them ) you get better service as they tend to look more long term, not at just this months sales figures.
  17. You're a business user and managed to get out after 26 months, what about the poor old private buyer and that depreciation, doesn't bear thinking about. Thank goodness the newer ones seem to be a lot better. Best of luck.
  18. I think we all like saving a few bob if we can but surely not by buying secondhand tyres. Nothing personal but if I had to worry about the price of re-shodding the car I would have bought something cheaper to run.
  19. The Telegraph's Honest John has mentioned this on a few occasions. He says you should avoid running the engine for short periods of time if possible, for example getting it out of the garage and switching off. What I try and do now is only get it out of the garage when Im ready for going anywhere.
  20. Mine starts up at 16-1700, almost immediately drops to about 14-15 then after a few minutes down to 11-12. When it's warm it's down at about 6 to 7. It alarmed me when I first got it but think it's just a characteristic of the car. I thought perhaps it was replacing the charge in the battery or adjusting itself to the cold. What I have noticed when it's cold the auto box holds it in a lower gear presumeably to not put load on a cold engine by changing to a higher gear and not wanting to labour the engine. Am not overly concerned, it's much cleverer than me. As regards reversing out of the garage or manoevering you've just got to keep your foot on the break. Will be interesting to see what happens in the summer, if we get one.
  21. Really? I agree it's not BMW levels, but it's still pretty good for a 2.5 V6........ Looks great mate :) That's what I think Parthiban. Only downside for me is high emissions ( in a green world ). With regard to consumpion I'm happy, when I think of what this car gives me, pure enjoyment, refinement, comfort and luxury. Downside is I'm having to drive the wifes more and more. She'd never driven an auto, I told her it was a doddle but she wasn't convinced so took her out for a drive. Big mistake, she took to it like the proverbial duck!
  22. Can't understand why, I just follwed the instructions on pages 52 & 53 of the handbook. Somethings amiss somewhere as on a scale of 1 to 10 on technical matters I'm about a 3!
  23. Exiled, I tried the instructions but it doesn't seem to work... did you do it yourself following those instructions? Yes, did it myself. my cars a 2009 59. When I took delivery auto locking was linked to speed. Your model year may be different, I don't know? Give it another go, if it still doesn't work have a word with your dealer. Let's know how you get on. When you have got it sussed it's miles better.
  24. I've got mine set up like that, each to their own. See page 52 & 53 in handbook, you can only do it on an auto.
