  1. Thanks, Do you use the home wifi just to get the first connection then move to the phone's 4g when on the move?
  2. Hi, My new RX450h has several features that require internet access but I am having trouble establishing the necessary connection. I have created an account with 'My Lexus' and entered the sat nav system code as requested. I have also downloaded the app on my phone. Phone is connected to car by bluetooth and that works fine. I now have a user name and password but when I use these to try and log in from the car media system I get an error message saying connection failed. Has anyone succesfully connected? Are the services offerred really worth having ? The app and the website both seem a bit basic and cluncky so am am not optimisitc. Instrction manual is useless and I havent got time at the moment to go back to the dealer...
  3. Thanks Chris The Thule website says that their roof bars will fit the RX with a pan roof but warn that the bars will obstruct opening the glass panel. I've ordered the bars from Thule and they don't require the holes in the roof rails so I am hoping they will fit OK. I will find out when my new RX with pan roof arrives next week !
  4. Yes, they will be available in a week or two when I get the new car. I've got two Thule aero crossbars with fittings to attach to the existing roofrails. £25 to anyone who can collect them. They are in decent condition as I remove them and store in the garage when not in use.
  5. Hi, I'm trading my 2012 RX450h in for a new 2018 RX450h and have a question about fitting roof bars. I need to be able to fit a roof mounted bike rack but my dealer tells me this is not compatible with a pan roof although they are not sure why. All models seem to have the rails fitted. Is it just that you can't open the pan roof with the roof bars attached to the rails or is there something more fundamental? Does anyone know? If its just that you can't open the roof then I am happy with that and will get the pan roof. I would be fitting a Thule bike rack rather than the lexus one... Thanks
  6. Reading this thread it doesn't sound like the economy is that much better than the RX400h it replaces. I get 32 or 33mpg from my 400 so might expect a few mpg more at most. A little disappointing. The 450 is lovely though and I am still tempted....
  7. I did a long drive on B roads today and used the control set at around 50mph. The indicated speed was rock steady an didn't vary apart from speeding up on the occasional steep down hill. Cruise is not really designed for this type of driving though. On the straight bits 50mph was too slow and on some of the bends it was too fast with a peculiar sensation of accelerating into the corners. Personally I would only use cruise on motorways etc....
  8. I've never had that problem on mine and I use cruise regularly. Sounds bizarre and potentially dangerous. I would definitely take it to the dealers as soon as possible.
  9. The 12v battery on this car is simply too small. On mine you can listen to a cd for about 45 minutes with the ignition off before the battery goes flat and if you leave an interior light on you will be lucky to be able to start the car the next day. I've never had the battery go flat from just leaving the car parked up however, even for many weeks, which is a problem others have reported. Once you are aware of this weakness in the design you get used to it and just need to be careful not to leave electrical stuff on with the ignition off.... The engine starter is a good idea
  10. Are you sure its actually accelerating and its not just the engine revs rising due to the gear ratios changing in the gearbox? If its accelerating, by how much does the speed actually change ?
  11. My 2007 RX400h is behaving completely normally with no discernable problems with the brakes. In the recent icy weather I was impressed with the traction control, four wheel drive and braking....
  12. On a standard UK RX400h you can convert the satnav functions to metric as well as the displayed temperature. Ive got my satnav to display metres and kilometres and my temperature display in centigrade. The odometer however seems to be fixed in miles and the fuel consumption in miles per gallon.
  13. I fitted a kit from VAISTEC and it works very well with excellent and intuiative controls that give easy access to the iPOD's albums, playlists etc and the sound is superb. By all accounts this is much better than the Lexus offering. Ordered it from the States with no problems. Fitted it myself although any car audio centre or dealer could do this. Have a look at their webite; http://www.vaistech.com/products/ipod_products.php
  14. 'replaced hybrid transmission and main seal $7,308.22' at 125,000 miles sounds worrying. Is the tranmission a known problem ?
  15. There was a long thread about this a while back so do a quick search. All the options and their pros and cons were discussed.
  16. Hi, I get 32 -33 mpg consistently on an even mix of motorway, urban and rural driving without being obsessive about fuel conservation. On stop/start urban journeys I can easily get 35mpg or better but on prolonged 80mph + motorway driving consumption climbs to 27-28 mpg. Also, when comparing the fuel consumption of a diesel and petrol car remember that diesel has 10% more energy per litre - its a different fuel. I suggest you give the RX a decent test drive. You will find it comfortable, quick, refined and easy to drive. Its not a car that rewards aggressive or sporty driving however so is not everyone’s cup of tea. Its also very practical with loads of room for kids, bikes, dogs or whatever you wish to transport. The hybrid bit is not that noticeable when driving but results in modest fuel savings which may or not matter to you. So far no significant reliability problems with any of the Toyota hybrids, including high mileage Prius, so they are a safe bet in that respect. The only problem with the RX400H that regularly rears its head is the small 12V battery (not the hybrid battery) which has a habit of going flat if the car is left for long periods or if you leave an interior light on for any length of time. This can be annoying but is a minor problem. My only gripe is lack of full UK postcode entry on the satnav. So far I've not met a hybrid owner who is disappointed by their Lexus..... Best of luck with your purchase.
  17. I too went for the VAISTECH and can confirm it works well and is easy to install yourself.
  18. I too traded in a Mondeo Ghia (the 2.5l V6 petrol one) for a new RX400h....what a difference ! Enjoy your new car.
  19. I tend to fill up my rx400h when the needle hits the top of the 'R' on the dial. At this point I typically have 4 litres left in the tank, i.e. enough for another 20-30 miles.....
  20. I use the 'B' position much less frequently - only when descending early steep hills. When I engage 'B' it is noticeable but not dramatic. Certainly not like changing down a gear in a manual car. I suspect you are just getting used to it rather than there being a problem with the transmission itself......
  21. Can you report back on the LED bulbs. I have the same concern about the reversing lights and would love to know of an easy solution...
  22. I've driven my rx400h around in the snow this winter without problems so I don't think you need worry on that score. I think the CVT transmission os one of the car's best features providing smooth and completely seamless gearing. One comment that RX300 drivers often make when getting into the hybrid is the noise of the electric motors - you soon get used to this. By the way, if you think the RX400h lacks refinement compared to a RX300 take a diesel RangeRover Sport for a spin.....!
  23. Diesel and petrol are different fuels with a different calorific value per litre. There is no point comparing the m.p.g. as diesel will always be better - there is simply more chemical energy in a gallon of diesel than a gallon of petrol. Similarly there is more energy in a unit volume of coal than in a unit volume of diesel. If, by fuel economy, you mean m.p.g. then you will always favour fuels with higher calorific value per unit volume. It never ceases to amaze me that this simple but crucial piece of chemistry is not understood by motoring commentators....
  24. There are plenty of examples of high mileage Prius cars in North America, particularly Canada, where they have been popular as taxis. There was an article in one of the car mags a year or so ago about Prius's with 100,000 + miles on the clock with no problems. If you are worried about the hybrid system failing this is encouraging....the rest of the car is predictable Lexus quality and should last well. Anyway, that's what I am hoping as I plan to keep mine for a few years yet !
  25. They are well worth the price. I take mine out every so often and jet wash it.....comes out like new.
