  1. do you find wear is better with the auto Not really. James hi james i was only asking as i have just had belt etc changed,6 years old 85k and looked in very good condition,no record on service history of this being changed and was only 3 years old when i bought it.but water pump was starting to leak :) Ah right perhaps we have stumbled across something then, will look out for that. 3. Yes £490 is a little high. Never mind its done now so no worries. James Yes 3 litres would be the same. We have noticed that a stretched/worn belt can throw out the timing enough to make the car running a bit noisey/lumpy. One car was audible rattling until the belt was changed following 100k miles. 5. Hiya. It will be something very simple, take it to someone with a decent diagnostics machine failing that start by checking the simple things like spark plugs. Always willing to help by phone 01252 845645. James
  6. We have now done in the region of 40 IS200 belt changes, I can confirm 100k is far too much for this belt, its only my opinion but there should be some kind of sticky thread about this before someone has a nasty shock. James
  7. Bang on! safer than sorry is a prudent moto. :winky:
  8. Should have know you would be surfing here 3S otherwise known as toyotagt to the rest of the toyota/lexus community :winky: when you coming in?? James
  9. We have had the same experience http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...showtopic=48761 If one of the teeth on the crank pulley is damaged it will do exactly this. We had a IS200 with this same problem, it run okish but had a tapping noise at low revs becuase it throws the timing out to about 25 degrees advance at idle, a new pulley fixed the problem fine, its about £47. Care should be taken replacing the pulley as the teeth are super sensitive. Interestingly it was the badly worn belt that damaged the pulley. so there are alot of similarlarities here. James
  10. Its going to be a worn idler bearing if it wasnt changed, or the belts as suggested. James
  11. Very arrogant response, I own a altezza and thought i had some valuable info to share, im not selling anything here or advertising so wind your neck in, some might find the info i have offered as usefull.
  12. figures were revised dave - the 100K no longer applies Rob Thanks for the info, Stephen http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...showtopic=48673
  13. Hi Guys have been very interested in the above suggestion and can confirm Toyota/Lexus recommend like most other manufacturers cambelts are changed at 60k. Bellow I will show you why What you are looking at is a IS 200 sport that covered 103k miles. The tensioner assembly got weak and ran at a slight angle meaning the belt started to run of the bearings/cam rubbing against the cambelt cover, the belt is half the size it should be, this put additonal load on the water pump which needed changing. This particular car would have been lucky to make another 100 miles and 10 miles with heavy use. The suggestion that these cars can be left untill 100k before a belt change is simply crazy, we have changed loads and experience tells us they are just like every other toyota engine and need changing at 60k or 5 years. I hope that clears some things up and puts some evidence forward to make it more clear. James
