  1. take heed in that a2z parts quote above....£120 for upper control arms......thats cheap if they are the front ones, about right if they are the back ones
  2. Tesco care about nothing. They employed parking attendants to man a council owned car park in shropshire where the store was. The locals kicked up a big fuss, so did the council.....it was in the papers, but a year down the line and the attendants still patrol & issue tickets. Maybe tesco gave the council a backhander or threatened to abandon the small town...who knows But do you think Tesco's insurance company would pay out if the 'wind' accidently blew the trolley thro their own window? Do you think they'd pay out then....i think so, so whats the difference in the 2 mentioned 'accidents'? Im suprised they havnt done you for damaging thier trolley :winky:
  3. Take it back defo... i was going to suggest the phone for the bleep, but u said its out now?? The wiring loom in the boot hinge is known to be a trouble causer of gremlins in the electrics.....this could do with being re-wired if its not your bill
  4. Hi the gold badges were just an option like the wood gear knob & half wood steering wheel. As people say there are good ones out there. Mine has a perfect history but the paint had suffered a bit ( black shows every blemish) but at £2250 a year ago I thought it was massive value. £3500 would have bought me a mint one. some say the gold badges should be the top of the range models, but this is a lie as mine has gold badges including aerial bolt, but is without the traction control, suspension adjustment & power switches (not the ECT/Power)...so i doubt very much it is top of range. Apparently its a rare colour combo of white/silver outside with black interior!? and that earns the rights for my car to have the badges.....? Well, it doesnt stick with me as a reason for the gold badges even tho the biege interiors i see are awful I've lost my job and it could force me to sell my 93K plate - its had most common faults fixed, never broke down and still runs mint........you interested
  5. ive got a mk2 and the reception was no good in those days either..fm is ok......... when it finds a damn station that is, it just scrolls forever.... but i listen to talksport of 5 live and both are poor signals. Electronic interference could be it...just put the household stereo aerial near plugs and you shall hear what it can do. The RX300 has superb reception but the LS for some reason is really poor for such a good system You'd have to find the wiring diagram to see if you can bypass the integrated stuff and go direct to the assy......not a simple job as the cars are built well
  6. Sorry its a bit late but dont buy the rubbers, i did the same from halfords, they gave me champion (which is ok on 90% of cars) but within 3 months i'd bought new blades from lexus (not that dear) because of the bloody squeeking EVERY TIME...aarrrggghhhhhhhh Keep your sanity, lose a couple of quid and get the proper ones...
  7. god arent we getting picky. Its good tho', how we can moan at the road noise after changing tyres...what a great car it must be for that to even be an issue. My priority with tyres now is just how long they will last...u see, i locked my keys in once and the RAC came with a great air bag tool that stuffed in the door & blew up and bent the door back... this at the time was great as i had my keys back, didnt break a window and it would have only cost me a tenner, but the RAC bloke refused it.... But i then noticed road noise, and wind noise in my Lexus :shutit: It looked ok inside the car, but the door no longer sits snug with the seal and i was told since that i could break stuff trying to bend it straight again So tyre noise is just there for me now, full stop. Michellns were the best i had before that, 300quid for 4 fitted, a lot steeper than my cavalier ages ago, 4 for 50quid... ahhh them were the days. I asked for long lasting and they were a good compound, and as long as you dont go 100mph around bends you will be ok for grip too...they never let me down. Just for a laugh i'll tell you about the time i did lose grip....(wasnt with those tyres either!) i've only lost it once.....it was in the wet, rushing trying to overtake a dawdler after a sharp bend, dont have traction control and so i just ended up looking thro my passenger window at him driving off and he was waving something at me???? <_< I then looked forward and saw a few cows looking at me and simply thought...dont do that again yer d**k
  8. Dont cut the wire, if you dont want the radio at all, just unplug the connector in the rear wing. (5 mins) I bought a new one from Lexus for 30 odd quid delivered. They told there is only 1 aerial that will fit & that covers most Lexus cars, and guess what...mine wont fit either i got the instructions to fit it yourself, dead easy, hold cd and tuner (i think) buttons on radio & turn key to acc. The radio then dispalys something on screen & the motor unwinds fully. It depends where your aerial was snapped but it should bring the rest out and release the tail of the toothed cable. If the cable has its tail intact you can just put the new one in (teeth towards rearlight (just facing straight back), feed it in a few inches and get someone to turn keys off. This 'should' pull the aerial in, but mine stops before its half way down, as the sheath around the mast on the new aerial will just not fit into the tube in the rear wing. I've now broken 2 aerials and bought a scrap motor assy and swapped the tube...but no it just will not fit Everybody else said its easy
  9. Dont bother with quickfit...ever, find a decent local garage, find stuff out here and have some knowledge when you take it. You can usually pick up then if they know what they talking about, or have any idea of the car at alll. Some say they are a pain to work on, i think its because of the age of he nuts/bolts..they can snap or be stuck and need grinding off etc but they are usaully the ones underneath the car If i were you, i'd ask Lexus exactly what the car gets for the 500quid. I think lexus have 3 service levels, they might be changing belts etc, i dunno, you'd better find out. Then go & ask a local garage how much that work would be My 93 K reg still runs great at 225K, shame about the suspension rubbers and that damn EGR pipe tho. You'll find out on this site about those headaches and other common issues the Mk2 tends to get: Flickering/blank dash, blacked out a/c & clock display, p/s leak, occasional leaky sunroof, the emmisions and the control arm rubbers are about the most common. The suspension can be quite dear but the others are very reasonable and affordable. The emmisions can be high, dont go rushing into buying new O2 sensors etc, theres 4 i think and its not usually them that give the high readings so you will waste a few hundred quid. Dont worry too much about parts etc, you hardly have to buy any, i've had mine 6 yrs and its never had any breakdowns. Just the usual wear & tear parts that needed replacing. In fact, my dad had it before me (2nd owner) and between the 14 years its been around in our family, i cant remember it ever giving him trouble either...thats amazing thinking about it...an 18 yr old car thats never broke down.....im gonna ask him to make sure I have thought on occasions (usaully after an MOT) that its the end of the road for the old gal b'cos i left a couple of jobs and then they all need doing at once etc...you know how it goes, but a few days investigating on here has sorted my troubles. Enjoy it mate, i have
  10. Andy, dont be fooled by no new drips, if you're still topping up every now & then its still leaking. The engine cover underneath the car keeps it all there for a while, its got lots of sponges on it to keep it quiet i presume, but they were wrecked on mine. If you can be bothered, jack up the front end and take the cover off, put some cardboard down over night where you park it (if its outside, put c/brd further underneath so the rain wont soak it, or put something against your bumper to keep c/bd dry!!). Its fine to drive with it off just dont go throu deep dirty puddles and dont go out in the rain...obviously Sometimes takes a couple of nights for the fluid to find its way to a point it can drop from. Believe me, its better to check thouroughly now.....i cant tell you the amount of times i let things go , then forgot about it just for them to bite me on the arse at m.o.t. time or the suspect part will cost you at xmas time or whatever, that sods law just loves to ***** u off whenver it can Oh and sorry to tell you, that dash flicker sounds EXACTLY as mine started, it will start to stay off for longer, and longer and.....then it will stay off, not even 1 flicker at ignition. Its fine in the day 'cos u can still see the needles ok, but could well cost you points and a fine at night, it can also flicker back on occasionally, it alternates quickly with the center console illumination and you get folks looking at you at the traffic lights cos they think you got strobe lights in your car or something. And todays coppers will think you are on the phone!!!! You need to speak to chris, its not expensive
  11. ?? Dunno, but sound is a funny thing. A new mp3 or i-pod can improve quality, a different lead can aswell. I noticed after buying several tape adapters for the mk2, some were much louder than others, and typically the older ones you cant get anymore were the best. Had a panasonic one which was good, the new tesco brand ones are quiet. I think they did change systems soon after the k reg tho, i've seen people post different makes of stereo, but they are all top quality standard systems in Lexus. Bet you dont have tape adaptors in the newer models, it'll be a jack input which again is good. I believe mine is a panasonic and it still sounds superb after 18 years, and im sure i play my music louder and with fatter beats than the original owners
  12. There is a full list of bulbs with all thier technical details on this site somewhere, i saw it last week. Im away from my home for 2 weeks so i cant get the bookmarked page to post here sorry.... search for illumination, i think i was looking at the dash troubles page and came accross another post with a scanned list of all bulbs in the LS400
  13. Does that mean they can supply me with indefinate supplies of cd multichangers for my mk2? :winky: and possibly new window switches, 2 new aerials wont fit into the shaft in rear wheel arch (no broken teeth in housing??), and they should do the egr pipe for free for putting it in a far from perfect position.............. how many signitures needed for a petition?
  14. No, i was in a RX300 and it was definately 0 for its lowest setting.......not being picky mate, i just noticed it The colour of some new lights are much better, but some are over the top bright. I don't know why some turn with the corner, you eyes can see just fine... They'll come up with something else more productive soon im sure
  15. i wouldn't worry too much abvout the washers mate, they should have checked them after fitting anyway, cant see them doing all that work taking it out to just throw it back in without checking :shutit: not even cowboys do that do they? The smell should have gone by now, being the end of the month Whats the latest?
  16. Thanks pete, Guess that needs a lift or pit then? how many hours labour am i looking at if i cant find a pal with the right equipment
  17. Thats a great shout steve2006!! mine need doing too, i thought i had to buy new ones or scour the scrapyrads for a temporay fix Go on Janey, you know you want to. Does this mean i have to be a gold member ??????? would you want that too :winky:
  18. It happened on my 93 plate 400, when i pulled out of side streets or garages into a main road, and i've had those same scary overtaking moments of being a sitting duck if it doesnt get going in a second....... :o It didnt make a distinct noise or dropped gears really, i usually got to 2nd gear myself in panic It turned out to be blocked m.a.f. outlets Dont know your model, youd have to ask on here if you can sort it as easy as our type
  19. if fluid is ok or new, then make sure you've got equal air in the opposite tyres (i do 32 f, 34 rear for some reason???) If you have a slow puncture it can affect steering and make it heavy at times. All 4 tyres are usually differenty when you decide to check Mine is a 93 models remember! I'd expect he 04 wheels to be still ok Its worth a check if fluid is ok, depends how heavy the steering goes
  20. Hi Nottingham.. forest or county? When floor is wet, feel all over the roof carpet for damp also......and the nearest window pillar I had the same water in car syndrome....randomly to make it more awkward i got a random fault of the sunroof not closing fully although the 'open window' bells dont go off and it looks shut when you get out. a quick open & close of the roof usually sufficed but you never know when it will happen again It was usually just lots of condensation inside the car if left outside, or it kept steaming up when you're in it. Sometimes it was a 8" wet patch above your head or the pasenger side. I finally losty my rag when it was left at work once and i noticed the back passenger footwell was soaked...(the car sloped that way too), i got a plastic board and i could wring the roof out constantly for a few minutes with lots of water running down my hands everytime...it was that wet. That was 18 months ago and it hasnt happened since even in heavy rain???? still havent sourced the fault as all looks fine. I think its when it rains heavy enough to form pools on the sunroof seals, it goes down the outside of the seals too and not just inside to the drainage pipes. This causes water to get into gaps it shouldnt and proceeds to your inner roof lining, down one of the window pillars and onto the floor, (witnessed with my own eyes!) it depends how you are parked sorry i cant help anymore, thats just my experience of it
  21. Most i've paid was 300 fitted for 4 michellin's...i thought it was a bit steep compared to the old cavalier tyres i used to buy but they were a good compound and did last years. But the guy said its an unpopular size, jags have same problems apparently My latest rear two are an unknown type (cheapo), but were only 50 each fitted and balanced, o and they had to grind the old rubber off cos i keep getting slow punctures.....i'll see how long these last for 50 quid. They are not as good a shape as the michellins, they look softer and are more rounded between top & side walls....
  22. Alright Des? If you just bought it recently check reciepts for any type of electrical jobs or work concerning the dash.... On the older models (mines a K plate), we have a common fault with the flickering dash (shouldnt've been your troubles!!) and when we take the dash out, we are told never to turn the key to ign as this causes the airbag light to come on and its around 100quid to turn off. Someone may have done some work and started the car possibly with some connectors unplugged. But it sounds with your model that a trip to a garage is enevitable, dont just let them do any extra work if its not a simple case of resetting (try the disconnect batt for half hr 1st tho!!). If they say its this or its that (hours of labour looming) then ask them for the code/codes it gave them and post them on here for any clues or knowledge Good luck mate
  23. :D nah, not the car, I think it will run forever, I might call it a day with this country soon tho........this site is one of the only places left that dont try to rip you off all the time...and i can get this anywhere The clock is definately ticking for one of the two
  24. What did you do? How much was it? and where exactly is it? Above the manifold i know but i havnt looked underneath yet.... My driveway has horrible slopes and I feel unsafe when under it. (off road for 2 more weeks yet) I can hear the slightly more V8 sound of a Lexus blowing, at ignition, when the bonnets up, or in confined spaces so my suspicions have now turned to that EGR pipe. Sorted the other stuff except the eng warning light (all 3 warnings relate to connectors from various parts to the management system, so hopefully a clean will be just the job. I know its not usaully that simple, but reading the info thats the only thing that links the 3 codes together) Its been ages i know, but i have had use of another car so i let it slip a bit I'll no doubt let you know how i get on, theres just no way i could bear seeing cobwebs on her anymore
