  1. Thanks Steve, yes the map light do work. Hadn't thought about the switch itself tbh. Doh! I'll check tomorrow morning.
  2. I have done a search here for this, and come up with a couple of threads, but they do not completely answer my query, The main interior light now fails to work, although the footwell ones and warning door lights still do. The bulb looks fine, and undamaged. If this is a capacitor failure, where is it please, and how easy to fix? Where would the fuse be for this and what other circuits does it protect? Would it be possible to upgrade the lighting, say, to LED?
  3. Driving down from Bristol to Priddy in Somerset today, via Cheddar Gorge, the Lexus performed impeccably this morning. However climbing the road from Cheddar village through the Gorge, the temperature gauge suddenly rocketed from its usual there-or thereabouts half way bewteen C and H to H and beyond. I did not see the manner in which it arrived there, but glanced down to see where it was, half way up the Gorge. It had been fine this morning before this. Admittedly it is a bit of a climb up, and we were dawdling behind a van struggling to make progress up hill. Once at the top, the gauge fell a little, and by the time we got on open flat road, it returned to its usual position. A simiilar journey home, along back roads, steep inclines and narrow lanes failed to replicate the earlier occurance, too. I was keeping an eye on it. This is the first time the car has done this. Two questions. 1. Does the temp gauge record real time temperature readings, or, is it pre programmed (as can be with Saabs) to rise to the middle and sit there - not to unduly alarm the driver? 2. So, what would be the cause? Water level is as should be - the car doesn't seems to use it. Secondary Radiator fan switch? Or is this just normal behaviour?
  4. Thanks for that, and indeed there are many LCD replacement postings. I have a friend who will be replacing mine shortly, as replacement of all LCD displays, whatever the marque, is his trade.
  5. Thanks for that. I am wondering whether the LCD displays and the info they generate are the same. I understand that the SC400 (my fault typos!), may have had a fan speed display in the middle, and if that is the case, whetther when replacing a blackened LS400 display, whether a SC400 display, or another, possibly, would be a good replacement, nee upgrade, if the extra info. did display. I know, I am thinking very far ahead here, and probably constructing castles in the air, but as my display needs replacement, I am looking at all options, and if this does the trick, brilliant! You don't get if you don't ask - or find out :D
  6. Is there any difference in the ACC control unit displays between the LS400 1992 and SC430? Thanks.
  7. Been trying to find this out over the last few days. Would the ACC control unit for a LHD vehicle be plug and play for a RHD vehicle? We're talking LS400 1992, here. Thanks!
  8. can you ask if him if he is willing to fix mine if i send it 2 him? and how much 2? Will do. He is at present sourcing the parts, and manufacture, and I will get back to you with progress.
  9. I am using a friend in Wales, who is experienced in fixing lcds from other makes, principally Saabs, which I am also into, big time!
  10. yep... i followed the lexis.com tutorial too, and it said on there to pull the vent.... and thats what i did.... came out really easily, even managed to disconect the hazard warning light connector. while doing it... which saved me a stage ;) Thanks for that, and all your comments. I try not to be ham-fisted - and this is the first bit of work I've done on a Lexus, and I must say I really am delighted with the build quality, already! Chris, I'll be looking out for your LS400 in Shire. Did I not see you venture up to Chalrton Mead a while back - or was that yet another one in the area? More to come in the future, no doubt!
  11. Not having found anything comprehensive, or well illustrated, I have published a how to guide as LCD failure and replacement is all but compulsory on early LS400's! My unit is being forwarded for repair, and will update you as to the results, which, without doubt will be of a very high standard, indeed. Hope this helps.
  12. I must say that I am very please with the brakes on our LS400 - very reassuring, better than those on my Saab 9000v6. Mind you, my previous Mi16 Peugeot would stop on a sixpence.
  13. Is it adviseable to drive in power or economy mode all the time on my Lexus LS400? What's the concensus? TBH, I am happy to drive around and cruise, rather than join the rat race in the car, it's that sort of lazy drive, for me. Is there any discernable economy difference? My car is too early to have the computer display. The previous owner advised power - and he is active on this forum, and a good friend - but I wondered, out of curiousity, really, what the feeling of members here was. Thanks.
  14. Just a quick and simple query. How much fuel is left in the tank when the yellow warning light comes on, please? I had a lengthy drive back home recently, and there were no petrol stations open on my route. BTW, I hate going below the 1/4 tank mark, normally, in any instance! Thanks.
  15. Interesting. I too am getting the ! warning starting to appear, which will on occasion go out on applying the brakes, or of its own accord. Will check the pads on my 92 LS400. Brakes appear fine in operation. What is the normal amount of clicks to apply the parking brake - mine, IMHO appears excessive, and may indicate that the rears are a problem and need replacement, but that's just my opinion? Thanks. The car is still a great joy to drive and own.
  16. Just going through my e-mails just now, and a friend sent me this story. About time, too I reckon.
  17. Doh! I've a couple of plates I've bought, too, really as investiment and fun. One relates to the car it is on - a Saab - and the other has been parked on another vehicle of mine S44BLY - one that the DVLA didn't spot and retain for auction - and so I got it for the standard price. Been offered 8x purchase price from a dealer - NOT FOR SALE! Can't justify buying any more, now, and TBH, would rather spend the cash maintaining the fleet.
  18. Your recommendations for Oil, and viscosity for my 1992 LS400, from everyone's experience, please. Although she's getting near to 140k with FSH, I like to keep things topped up! Thanks!
  19. Ah missed that! Thanks. (Log in problems don't help, either!)
  20. Any recommendations for an Independent Lexus garage and servicing in the Bristol area, please? Our LS400 is still going well/effortlessly after 6 months ownership, but would welcome any knowlegeable advise, and help.
