I’ve just found a sport model’s LSD up for sale, it has done 60K and is from a 51 reg IS, while my IS is a ’00 and has just hit 90K. I was wondering before I commit to buying this, will this fit correctly as in a straight swap ? Is there any potential problems I should look out for? And if anyone knows if there is a way to tell whether it is an LSD or an open diff ? Like a stamp code or something similar ? The Seller is asking for £200, which is roughly what I was expecting to pay, but does anyone think this is too much ? Thanks in advance !

I was thinking this too ! I don't think i could justify paying over a grand now. I pay £450 and I'm 25. Tinygsy - Who are you insured with to be paying £250 !!!! How many NCB do you have too ?

Hyundai have them on the current cars at the moment, and i have never heard the guys from there having problems with thier plates. I'm actually quite surprised as the square plates on the Lexus, do look good !

Ahhh....I see now. But how can I check to see if the woodruff key is missing, or broken ? There isn't a lot of room to check properly, unless I remove the pulley itself. And if I remove the pulley does it need to be replaced exactly the same way it came off ?

Can you help remind me what a woodruff key is again ? I thought it was the shaft the pulley sits on. If it is, isn't it part of the pump ? Or I replace just the shaft/woodruff key ?

Ok I got a phone call this afternoon and was told my nut had arrived. So I’ve just come back from Lexus and fitting the nut to the pulley, but it look like there is still a wobble. Which means the shaft must be bent, and that also the knocking sound once the car is warm has got to be the bearings. What are my options now ? Can this do any damage to the belt ? What will happen if I just leave it with a wobble ? I need to drive to Oxford tomorrow, and now I’m worried about breaking the car and not making it back.

It happens quite often when you first start your car, or when it’s cold or damp. There is a sticky spray can you can buy to spray on the belt to give it a little more grip, which usually works untill it gets warm, or you could just replace the belt.

Not sure they will rush a 90p nut in just for me. Lol ! Besides, i can get by without using the car for a couple of days. I find out the other day, i've done 3,500 miles since I bought it in Sept.

Thanks again, I went to a few places to find a nut like auto spares, and halfords, but had no luck. So I went to Lexus and they could get the nut in but will take 2 days to get here !!!! :o :o :o I ordered it anyways and won’t drive the car until it gets here. I just hope the pump it self isn't knackered. Cheers for the suggestions !!!

Hey guys, can anyone please tell me if the pulley for their power steering looks like this ? To me, I think there should be a nut holding this back, is this the same on yours ? Also I seem to be getting a new knocking sound. I don’t drive my car very often, Thanks to working in either Reading or London, and it’s easier to get public transport. But a couple of days ago after coming off the motorway I heard a knocking sound on idle. I had a look and can’t work out where it could be coming from other than from the power steering pulley, as there is a slight wobble on it when the engine is on tick over. When I switch the engine off, the pulley doesn’t feel loose, but is this because the belt is holding it in place, or because I’m not pulling hard enough ? Also the knocking sound only come on when the car is very warm, and has been driving for a long period. The timing belts were replaced approx 20K ago, and the car is due a service. I took a video of the pulleys and the sound, but it wasn’t as loud as it has been. I took the car for a 10-mile drive, and you can hear a slight knocking sound behind the tappets. Remember this has been a lot louder than the video shows. Anyone got any ideas to what the sound could be if its not the pulley ?

I remember reading the progress of this before. A lot of work has gone into it, and as much as I love the colour, the V8 idea, the wheels and the front But i don't like the rear. The back is too low, the arches are too wide, the rear wheels are too far in, the skirts look like they will scrape on every thing, and the boot lock strip hasn't been painted ? I'm not sure if thats a drifting set up, but just think with all the work that has been put into it, minor details like that, shouldn't be there.

I would of gone to this, but it's a shame it's this weekend, as it's mother's day, and seeing as i've not bought her anything yet, i think i should at least visit with a card or something rather than going to a car meet. Lol !!!
