  1. WE seem to be getting a lot of mohammeds on ebay they are breaking cars as well as selling and from my experience they are not very trustworthy regards there descriptions of the items they are selling. They also want silly prices for parts from scrap cars I bought an aerial for my GS300 and it did not work allthough he said tested and working, the thing was jammed half way down in the closed position so my experience they are not to be trusted. Norman
  2. Here is what you will see on the top of your master cylinder regards filling and checking it. When the pedal is pressed the amount of times it says the fluid level will show you if it needs topping up if you fill it from cold when the car is started and run it will overflow (it happened to me ) it is not like an ordinary master cylinder because of the ABS etc. I have just had a new cylinder fitted so I know these dam things fairly well, and what you have got as regards your levels is correct IE showing max with engine off and left for a while and Min after you have started the car because the pump has put the fluid into the braking system Norman
  3. Not so sure how they calculate these prices, but as I always say you can't expect to buy this sort of car and and expect parts to cost the same as they would for a mondeo. The only way I can see around it is to strip it out of the vehicle and send it off to somewhere like www.pastparts.co.uk - can highly recommend them for any hydraulic cylinder rebuild. A car costing that sort of money should not have a common fault that is going to cost that much to repair it. I would have thought with the Technology of building prestige cars that they have it would not be hard to make a reliable one my car had 87000 miles on it and last week I had to replace it but I was fairly lucky as a guy on ebay had a brand new one still in the box for £920 including delivery and it cost me £160.00 to have it fitted.
  4. Hi Guys Sorry for the basic question but it does not say in my owners manual. I have just recently had an auto gearbox oil change and just went to check the level and with the engine cold I removed the dip stick and the levels are just above the HOT mark. I supplied the oil for the garage because I wanted the proper oil TYPE T IV as we all know is the only correct one I gave them the container which had 5 litres and they used half of it which makes sense as it takes 2.4 litres for a complete change. Could a member give me the proper procedure for checking the levels,on the dip stick it has Hot and at the very bottom a C which I assume means cold,I can't understand why the handbook gives the engine oil levels but not the auto gearbox checking procedure. Norman
  5. Done in situ Phil They just break the seal to get behind the tyre, they had the car for a day I think this is what most places do unless you want to pay silly money to have the tyre removed completely. Norman
  6. Hi Guys Had my wheels refurbished ready for the summer,£45.00 per wheel by Chips Away in Bristol I am pleased with the results as they were quite bad (they were like it when I bought the car) P1010660_wheels.bmp
  7. Excellent price and looks as though they have made a good job to,amazing the difference in prices from two different places(Pays to shop round doesn't it)
  8. Ive put my bed by the window so Ican keep looking at mine LOL :winky:
  9. You have my vote as well Katana Looks great and sounds great I am the same as TigerFish regards information. Norman
  10. Mine just pops up slightly which I prefer as I think if it flies up too fast it can't do the springs or boot lid much good. I had to take the spoiler of to repaint and then the thing flew right open but it was too fast in my opinion.
  11. Just curious the Mk1 has headlight washers but not the Mk2 sport I have the Mk2 sport and I have the washers I thought this was standard on the Sport. Norman
  12. The only other thing it can be is the switch I would suggest checking the voltage to the switch and if that is OK your question is answered. best of luck with it Norman
  13. Nice Patch I have the Mk2 GS300 Sport in the same colour I changed from a Mercedes to this and I am always getting comments (wow thats a nice car) I did not get that with my Mercedes. I have been unlucky regards the brake master cylinder going as we all know it is a common fault on this model after about 100,000 miles but mine has gone at 88000, I managed to get a brand new one from ebay still in the box from Lexus for £900.00 plus £20.00 delivery these retail at £2000 but my car is in pristine condition so well worth spending the money on. It looks great with the sport wheels.tinted windows etc. I intend keeping it for a long time because I just love driving it. Norman :D
  14. Quite honestly Gareth if I had bought that car from a garage for that sort of money I would have said I will have it if you do a service and due to the current climate they would have done it no problem. My wife has just bought an Astra with 16000 miles on it which she only paid £5950.00 and they gave her a new MOT plus a full service. But very nice looking car I hope you get many miles of trouble free motoring out of it (But of course it is a Lexus beats all the other Mercs,BMW,Audi ) My car is 10 years old now 1999 GS300 Sport I bought it to replace my Merc but gets lots of comments on what a lovely car it is that did not happen with the Mercedes. Norman
  15. Try this it is for the GS300, http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_E_1999_LEXU...EAQFW_1702.html Good luck Norman Was that diagram any good a reply would be nice as it helps other members if they also need information Yes you have done well there because they are not cheap as a rule. Yes sorry for not saying thanks, just been real busy this week. I had the car on a ramp today and the center cat has been hit very hard and is out of shape. It is leaking at both ends and has been scraping the floor for some time by the state of it. I need a new one anyway. I will replace that part and look into having the rest done in stainless i think. Found one on ebay for around £170. Is that a good price?
  16. So did you find the part number? Hi Dave Part number is 47050-30150 Norman Part came today and what a lump no wonder it is so expensive part number on the unit is 47210-30152 so the previous number I gave was not for the complete unit by all accounts. I have been told this is the new brake master cylinder to replace the one that had a problem after 1000 miles. Next job is to get it fitted I usualy do this sort of thing myself but guarantee says it must be fitted by a competent mechanic due to the weird setup procedure.

  19. Bit the bullet today and bought a brand new brake master cylinder to keep my old girl on the road paid £900 but the car is worth it, I don't like to see a good Lexus scrapped for the sake of that sort of money. These can range from £2000 but there is a place on the net that is doing them for £1449 so I think I had a real bargain. Keeping my fingers crossed that she behaves herself now. Norman :D

  21. Cheers Dave you are quite right most sensible thing to do but Lexus in Bristol are hard to get information out off they said my car was OBD11 compliant but it isn't cost me a lot of money trying and returning scanners. Try Cathy (parts manager) at Coventry 02476518100. She is usually extremely helpfull. Or Cheltenham. Thanks Dave Norman
