Yes I read about that and it is concerning. Can you tell if its on its way out or is it just a ticking time bomb. I have a real nice one with all the issues done including the break master cylinder (Replaced with a brand new one) in all fairness if you are looking for a car that is very good on petrol don't look at the lexus but what you have to remember is Lexus are THE CAR forget BMW-Mercs etc. I sold my merc because they are rustbuckets just go on to the mercedes forum and 80% problems are regards there rust plus loads of electrical problems. At the end of the day if you are looking for a good luxery car you need go no further than Lexus but as I said they are not the best cars on fuel but the Mk2 sport is a real looker I get loads of comments of (Thats a nice looking car I did not with the Merc). So you are thinking why am I selling it if it is so nice the reason is early retirement and I am hoping to move to spain with the wifes cousin so I will be getting a Lexus again but a LHD. Apologies did not mean to ignore you I will read through your posts on the car later. :) IF you are really interested I can send you photo's and information you can then compare it with other cars you have seen. It has had a replacement radio (they loose pixels)spare aircon digi display, replacement arial, discs and pads on the front and pads on the back, just had a full service with the tranny oil changed etc, brand new (new type brake master cylinder) two new front tyres, new passenger side door mirror (new with a working spare new without a glass) MOT till end September, Road tax till end of February 2010, 18" sport wheels refurbished 88657 miles. It will be going on sale next weekend. -

Don't beat yourself down adam. I have been there so know how you feel because I wanted a GS300 sport so bad I did the same as you and rushed it. When I had a good look at my car I had things I should have checked before handing the rest of my money over. 1. Only one key but before I handed my money over he knocked off £100. 2.Nearside mirror the silver behind the glass was damaged (I did not notice that.) 3.Drivers side headlight washer broken and I need a new actuator £211.00. 4.Both fog lights not working but this was an easy fix (Phew) 5.Arial broken. 6.Offside rear door actuator not working so I have to lock door manualy. This is things I have had happen since I bought it first week of buying the pipe for the power steering sprung a leak (bad bodge up repair from previous owner). Auto headlight leveling warning light kept coming on (easy fix) And the best one 3 weeks ago brake master cylinder packed up (common fault on the early Mk11)but usually after 100000 miles my went at 88675 miles costing me over £1000. My car is now running great and when I had it serviced the garage said what a great car it was. So there you go I am sure we are not the only ones to rush into buying a car that we wanted badly but did not check as we should have, I bought mine off ebay and he had 100% feedback but he did not list any of the faults from 1-6 so I put my trust in the guy.

Just take it to Kwik Fit and they should do it for less than £50. I wouldn't let Kwik Fit do much to my car, but for aircon regas they shouldn't (in theory !) be able to screw it up. Nice one, was not sure if there was a certain type of gas i needed. My supra requires the older style gas. Old type gas is no longer legal

Hi Bryn I had the same with mine it seems to be a common fault, what I have done is sleeved it with a piece of plastic piping and jubilee clips and it works fine in fact when I had my last service he commented on what a good idea it was and saved a lot of stripping down to replace the whole pipe. You won't get it leaking there again if you look at the rest of the pipe I think you will see the rest is fine.

Hey Asi Don't apologise mate for trying to help that is what this forum is all about the only reason I know is because allthough I was told they would work even by Lexus in Bristol I found out that it was not till later they were made compliant.(cost me money to return them 2 in all) I have the 16 pin connector in the cab but the wiring is not correct for the obd2 setup the cars in the USA had to be obd2 compliant by law before the european market. So as I said Asi keep the help coming we need all the guys like you on the forum because sometimes a lot of questions go un-answered.

Many thanks my friends, I was so upset yesterday, got a second opinion on a good garage and all it is is fuel filter needs replacement, I cannot belive that Kwik fit are cons! My MOT man even said he had the same guy do nasty bits with other vehicles, wasnt too nice to hear good mechanics say Kwik fit "slaughtered my Lexy" Many thanks for the feedback, now I can get the MOT done and my holiday in Peace, thanks everyone.... I would go back to Kwik-fit and ask them what they are playing at and have they forgotton they have been on the television for conning people they are obviously still doing it, they need reporting again. My next door neighbour went there last year and was told he needed a new CAT £600 so he took it to another garage and all it was was a loose bracket on the exhaust which they did for nothing.

I had mine done at CHIPS- AWAY £45.00 per wheel I had four done £180.00 P1010659_wheels.bmp There is a bigger photo on the GS300 section in wheel refurb for some reason it would not accept the same photo in this section

I have one of these for sale with all the issues OK I have had the front discs replaced with pads, rear pads replaced, and the big one (brake master cylinder brand new and it is the new type that did not have a problem, radio replaced. Just had a full service with new plugs, and the auto trans fluid changed, two new front tyres in very good condition, alloy wheels just refurbished. It is a 1999 GS300 sport with 88000 miles taxed till 28/02/2010 5 months MOT. As Tigerfish says if you are going to buy a Mk2 you will have to hope the brake master cylinder does not pack up (very common fault) but as I have said this one has been done at a cost of £1500.00 + so due to the money spent on the car I am looking for £3500.00 minum. As Chris says plugs should be twin ground electrode platinum-tipped and they must not be adjusted. I have the GS300 sport and this is listed in my hand-book and told by the garage on no account fit adjustable plugs. If you have fitted the correct ones and the car is running lumpy you may have damaged one of the coil packs that goes on top of the plugs (common fault as they get a bit fragile with age.

Good advice but not the stopping the car at hold ups and traffic lights etc (one hell of a drain on the battery and short starter life and they aint cheap)
