  3. Hi All Urgent help needed regards a brake master cylinder for a 1999 GS300 Sport. I can get one and the only information is it will fit 1998 to 2000 JZS 161 I can't find a part number on mine but under the bonnet I have JZS 160R will this fit mine if not where can I find the part numbers for a master cylinder I have googled etc. but a complete waste of time, these search engines are about as much use as a chocolate fire guard sometimes. As I said very URGENT so would like a quick reply if possible. Norman
  4. Thanks Stevie I did find that site early today but just lists the master cylinder as a JZS 160,UZS161 so still not sure if the UZS161 after the 160 means it will fit mine. What it is I have had a dodgy Master cylinder for a while some times the VSC OFF ABS AND THE VSC light comes on plus the buzzer, I took the car in for a good service plus a load of other stuff and was told it was in excellent condition (only 88000 miles and drives like new) but the master cylinder is on the way out as you probably know a common fault on these cars. I love the car and these units are £2000 + fitting from Lexus but I can get a brand new one for £900 + £20 delivery so I am going to bite the bullet and get it if it fits the only problem is the difference in the JZS number the guy has said it will fit cars from 1998 to 2000 but due to the fitting charge I want to make sure it is the right one. Norman

  8. Would like to know the name of the garage if its possible i need to find a good indie for mine Hi Glenn Bond Motor Sevices Ltd 50 High street Kingswood Bristol BS15 4AJ Tel: 01179 615958. Owner is Garry Bond. Norman
  9. You missed the point Main dealer high service charges ie. £110.00 per hour and in my experience there service is c++++
  10. Just an update on a past post for a good indie in Bristol for your Lexus. I have just had a full service on my GS300 which included auto transmission oil change, plugs replaced, brake fluid change, diagnostic check, front brake calipers and pads, rear brake pads plus brackets on exhaust repaired. I supplied the tranny oil plugs disc's and pads and plugs and he was happy to do the job with the patrs I supplied (I got them all cheap on ebay) he checked the car right through regards emissions, battery condition, recorded ECU faults, coolant plus lots more and he really knows his stuff. So if you want a good job done with a lot less than main dealer Garry is the guy to see he has two Toyota mechanics that work for him and they love working on the Lexus models, I would like to point out I have no connection with this garge apart from jobs done before my last car was a Mercedes and he did a great job on that as well. Norman

  12. ah no i have no plans to buy it, just think it is funny that people try selling these things, just seen it when i was browsing ebay to find something nice for my car It's about time ebay banned these blokes from selling this rubbish I can tell you from tests carried out that they do not work so why does ebay allow them to carry on selling them. Ignore the good feedback it is all in the mind about there car is running better etc. Norman
  13. Had a problem with the Automatic headlight leveling system warning light on a 1999 GS300 Sport. I am posting this in case another member gets the light come on it may help you. Mine was the rear unit seized up so I gave it a spray with PLUS GAS and it works fine now, there are two one in the front and one on the rear, the front is attached to the shock absorber bracket and the rear is attached to the lower suspension arm. Norman
  14. Update on lights on dash plus noise, had the squelching noise first with lights coming on plus buzzer and then stopped after about 5 seconds it happened twice today. I am taking the car in for a full service plus a diagnostic scan on Wednesday so see what it comes up with will keep you posted in case some other member gets the same problem. Norman
  15. Hi Don Lights have not come on again yet so as I said I can't do anything until it happens all the time. I had a Mercedes before the Lexus and as you say it still turnes heads and I get comments regards a nice car which I didn't get with the Mercedes, the paintwork and general build is far superior to the Mercedes it is just a shame about the brake master cylinder being so expensive to replace your car 1998 did not have the same master cylinder as mine if you check it out yours is quite cheap, they changed them on my model year and then later on they changed it again to a better one so Lexus knew it was a bad design. Norman
  16. Morning Norm, its been two days since you asked for help? and i hope you have cured the problem. this may be a stuppid question but check your cam pully this was the problem i had it had split and the alternator was not sending charge back to battery, sorry i cant help anymore. Don Morning Don Thanks for coming back to me and yes the belt is fine, I took it for a 50 mile drive yesterday and the fault did not show up the only worry I have is the brake master cylinder booster is beginning to fail because as we all know it was a common fault on these cars and they cost £2000 plus fitting to put right. I have seen comments on the forum regards getting one from a scrapyard but I don't see that as a good option due to the fact it could have come from a car that had done a high mileage so the unit could fail very soon after buying it due to this problem of at about one hundred thousand miles that is when they seemed to fail, the scrapyards seem to offer 3 months warranty on them but they are just hoping they don't fail in that time. I think they need to be replaced with a new one but my car is a 1999 with only 87000 miles on it but in the present climate the whole car is only worth about that much,I think everybody with one of these cars can only keep there fingers crossed and hope theres does not fail, there is one on Ebay brand new for £1195 but I don't know if that is the problem with mine as it is OK now so all I can do is run it until it shows the fault continuously. I must admit if I had known about this problem I would not have bought the car I thought LEXUS was bullet proof there was somebody on this forum that scrapped his car for this exact reason I know if you want a luxery car you have to expect to pay to keep it running but a common fault for something like a brake master cylinder is bad. This is not the only COMMON faults with these very expensive from new cars,I have self leveling warning light showing (costly repair) also rear door actuator not working (costly repair) plus they get ball joint problems not what I would expect from a car costing this sort of money I am sure there should have been some recalls on this model because why put a brilliant engine and gearbox into a car that is going to get these sort of problems, some heavy users can soon notch up a high mileage in a short amount of time. Norman
  17. HI Guys Just come back from 16 days away and started car and I could tell the battery was struggling a bit, I got about 1 mile down the road and I got a sort of squelching noise as though I had an air leak and then the VCSOFF, ABS, VSC, lights came on and stayed on I turned ignition off and it started ok but then it did the same so turned off again and it was ok all the way back home. At the moment I have got the battery on charge could this be a low battery problem or am I looking for a worse problem. The battery is fairly new but the car is not used very much I am saying this in case anybody says duff battery, with the lights on the dashboard showing the car was still driving OK. Norman

  19. If your gearbox has packed up you have been very unlucky as knitware says they are the most reliable box ever made so take heart just do as suggested and get a good oil flush and complete change first before you start worrying about a broken gearbox. The only worrying thing is the burning smell you had. Hope that is all it needs
  20. Looks very tidy I hope you get good sevice out of it, what sort of mileage because it looks as though it has been well looked after. Norman
  21. Bought 6 NGK BKR6EKPB-11 which are the ones listed for the car got them from ebay for £46.25 including delivery. He wanted £49.00 or make an offer so I made an offer of £44.00 which he accepted plus £2.25 signed for delivery. I googled them and the cheapest I found was £8.23 each plus £4.75 delivery.
  22. Thanks guys Great stuff, nice weather so I can do them this weekend, your help is much appreciated. Norman :winky:
