  1. ....and the RT is the same as a similar year IS200.
  2. Thinking about it, yes sometimes turning the ignition off and then on and then wait for a few secs before starting does the trick. Interesting that during those ignition on secs I can here odd little noises from under the bonnet. Could be the immobiliser or the choke. My wife has NEVER had starting issues because she claims she doesn't try to start the car in a mad hurry.
  3. Just done a check on the DVLA site, road tax for upto 2005 IS200 model is £260 for 12 months , not £445, so that saved you £185 already :winky: Dammnit! I just bought a pre March 2001 registered IS200 specifically so the tax would be lower. Fail... major fail. :( Your road tax is £215 for 12 months. Se here: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/HowToTaxYourVehicle/DG_10012524
  4. This problem rears its head with my IS200 sometimes. I believe it is sticking choke as a sharp tap on the accelerator before starting usually fixes it. I have also sprayed some WD40 around the throttle body when the engine is cold which helps. Seems to happen more when the engine still has some residual heat there when, I reckon, a half choke setting is required but the choke sticks at fully open. The way the engine turns over rapidly suggests the choke is fully open (less resistance).
  5. Not a lot seems to go wrong with the IS so not a lot of queries. All the usual stuff is well documented so new buyers have a wealth of data to go on so, perhaps, don't need to post.
  6. In the Sunday Mirror car section they have an IS200 02 reg 50K miles featured for £1,500. I know mpg isn't great but that is a very cheap car for the money.
  7. I think it is the A/C "girding its loins".
  8. Has anyone removed and cleaned this? What were the results?
  9. Agree, totally. What I do is way up the purchase price against the running costs. So if you find a IS300 that is a tad cheaper than your other choices it helps pay for the extra petrol. It is all a question of the maths. Be careful with BMW though. My brother in law has had to pay BMW silly money to cure odd things since he bought it and the run flat tyres are awful.
  10. I had the stinky A/C issue. I removed the cabin filter and put back the tray. Set the vents so that it comes out of everywhere (auto). Turned on the fan full blast with the A/C off. Squirted the deoderiser stuff into the outside air intakes in front of the windscreen. Repeated the squirting twice more. Switch the fan off and fit a replacement cabin filter. Leave for a few minutes to "dry out". Job done. I used the Wynn's stuff by the way.
  11. In order to take legal/consumer action you would probably need a detailed report on the whole electical system to ensure everything is covered. Best of luck.
  12. I am confident they weren't S1063's. If you had S1088's, I would entirely agree.
  13. Got a couple of these on the front. Don't laugh. Check out the reviews below and then compare them with more "respectable " tyres. http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Wanli/S1063.htm
  14. I have an Ultraplus on my IS200. Powerful and with a 4 year warranty. http://www.alpha-batteries.co.uk/buy-online/005L/cat_27.html
  15. It may be the coil packs but it may not. If the car runs normally the rest of the time it could have something to do with fuelling when the engine is cold. I would try a good independent to check it out. Could save you a bit on Lexus rates. In the old days your symptom would sound like an auto choke not setting.
  16. I had same problem. The belt was in first class order so I cleaned it and the problem went away.
  17. ' fraid not. Just the usual posh one.
  18. Just watched the above. Didn't like it much overall. Lexus have gone in a completely different direction from the IS200. Probably got it right in these times
  19. Redline has an excellent name. Millers NT oils are also highly recommended.
  20. Asked my local independent to change my gearbox and diff oil at 60K miles. They changed my gearbox oil but said the diff oil was like new, so left it.
  21. Poor mpg is an issue but if you got it for a good price that will more than offset the extra cost. They are also beautiful cars to drive that very, very rarely go wrong. Just need half decent servicing and cam belt change when it's scheduled. Local garages are also familiar with them as they have been around a long time.
  22. The pulley is changed with the belt as part of the service schedule - makes sense. When Lexus did mine in 2007 the belt cost about £30 and the tensioner cost £50.
  23. Yes it does. Good description.
  24. Your next timing belt is due 6 years after the last one was fitted or when your car reaches 120K miles, WHICHEVER IS THE SOONER.
