  1. Air Filter is OK but how do you clean the carb? The car is 11 years old and the carb has never been cleaned.
  2. The IS200 came out 14 years ago. It looks just as good know as it did then. Unlike a lot of other cars today, you can't mistake an IS200.
  3. If I pull away with minimum revs, the engine "hunts" for a while. The rest of the time the car drives perfectly. It has always done it to some extent but it seems worse now. Has anybody got any ideas?
  4. Chances are that batteries which go flat over a short period are past their best and need replacing. Best done before the dark nights/winter arrives. You can get a decent replacement for about £60.
  5. These oils are recommended by Opie: http://www.opieoils.co.uk/product-finder/car/engine-oil/lexus/2001/is/PETROL/is/16124/product-finder-2.aspx
  6. Definitely go for the IS300 if you can find a decent one. It is only Band K on road tax as well no matter what you do to it..
  7. Whilst Lexus servicing is excellent, I have no complaints about Toyota.
  8. You can often get a better quote from your existing insurer if you act as a new customer on the comparison site or their own - crazy.
  9. Worth trying LV or Aviva. The IS200 is only in old group 12.
  10. Provided it has been maintained and you understand the 25 mpg in town and you put good wet weather tyres on it, then the IS200 is a lovely reliable small luxury car.
  11. Tracked it down to the temperature setting knob. If it set higher than temp in the car it goes away; same if it set lower. In between it causes the noise. Just fiddled with it up and down for about 20 secs and it cleared.
  12. No problem with reservoir and noise cannot be heard under the bonnet. It changes when you move the temperature selector on the dash.
  13. I had an experience a few years ago when a well known tyre fitting company, after they put a new tyre on, told me my front discs and pads needed changing and they could do it for £X. I was a bit suspicious so I left it. When the annual service came around a few weeks later, my garage found no fault with the brakes. That was 3 years ago and all is still well. I am also suspicious of "MOT for £30" places. Sounds like another loss leader to me.
  14. Much safer going to a reputable independent even if it costs a bit more. The guy I go to checks the condition of gear oils, brake fluid and coolant even if it's not scheduled. Most of the time there is no need to change these fluids.
  15. Just spotted this: http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=53853
  16. Mine lasted 8 years. It started "going off" when I needed to charge it up one bad winter. You will probably be OK now the winter has passed but would replace it before next winter. Those OEM Panasonic batteries are amazing.
  17. You need to remove the front belts, which includes the A/C belt, to do the cam belt.
  18. That sounds like a far better idea than £2300. A car security firm may have other suggestions.
  19. I would have thought an annual inspection of the belt should be adequate. These belts fray at the edges and gradually get thinner and thinner over time.
  20. Never known a car with such variance on MPG. Mine goes from 23mpg in winter in city driving to 37mpg on a easy long motorway run with my daughter driving. IS200's really shine in such an environment - so smooth and quiet.
  21. I remember they were Bridgestones and had sidewalls with a rim protector. Didn't work. There a better and much cheaper tyres around.
  22. There might be an Lexus independent in your area who could at least tell you what the problem is for far less than that.
  23. Are you sure the valve gear is turning?
  24. I would agree. The IS200 seems blind to whatever fuel you put in it.
  25. My son got a recon one for his civic a few years ago for about £50 fitted including coolant from that place at Childwall 5 Ways. I'd give them a ring.
