  1. Kind of important then to get it fixed. Might be worth giving the throttle a tap before starting to activate the choke set up. Worked on my IS200. I don't think you need to pay for a Lexus diagnosis. If you know a decent local garage, they should be able to help. If you have "home start" on your breakdown, give them a call one morning when it is not time critical. They may fix it free of charge. If it does involve Lexus labour then it might be cheaper to take a course in midwifery, Discuss this with your wife first, she may have a view.
  2. If you start getting problems with your remote not working on occasions, don't mess about. Get a CR1616 battery on e-bay for 98p delivered. You will need a small cross head screwdriver to get it out but, be warned, the screws are tiny so do it carefully on a table. Going from experience losing a screw down the sofa.
  3. Most cars look very cheap atm, especially highish road tax and fuel consumption models so make sure that it looks comparible, price wise, with similar types of car. The IS200/300 cars are every bit as good as a Beemer/Audi and probably more reliable. Strangely some have queried the build quality and reliability of the IS250/220D models.
  4. IS300 definitely the better choice because it provides a better performance to cost ratio than the 200. Problems I can see are - finding the best tyres on that back end, especially if you not used to RWD and - finding a good one. A rare car and one that would be worth "investing" in in saner economic times.
  5. I think that if the damage to his car was at the side, he was cutting across your path. Even if he was indicating, why did he cut across you. Under either scenario (indicating or not) he failed to look behind. As far as your excess is concerned, does your insurance have the option to recover it. I think your chances are good, especially with your witness. Sadly, even if you win, your insurer may still put your basic premium up because their stats show that accident victims are more likely than average to be involved in an accident even if it is not your fault. Disgusting, I know.
  6. Sorry you have started your ownership on such a sour note. Hopefully it will be your last encounter with mindless morons. I always think that it is one of life's ironies that there never seems to be a violent psycho around when these people strike. They also never around when elderly people are being intimidated on trains by young thugs.
  7. Actually not quite true, if the woman is under 25 you will find that the policy cost increases. For some reason women under 25 are deemed to be a liability. Now if that woman is your mother it could be seen as lowering the risk :D If you were 17 when you took out the policy, your mother would have been 8 years old when she gave birth. Am I missing something?
  8. Didn't know what the problem was, sorry.
  9. There is also this one : http://www.motorcarinsuranceuk.co.uk/post-code-ratings.php
  10. It is not just ugly, it is meaningless. 20 years of marriage, 20 years since your pet goldfish died etc.
  11. I assumed, like a lot of ppl, that you had to remove the pulleys and the timing cover to get at the water pump and that the water pump is a consumable. If you can access the water pump directly then clearly it is a nonsense to replace it if it is not faulty. Excellent post that could collectively save members £1,000's
  12. Some people put the car in "snow mode" on motorways. It dulls the sensitivity of the throttle thereby saving fuel. I think it is excellent on motorways especially with the car's inherent refinement. As you say though, terrible economy in town driving. It is only marginally better than the ISF, and that's a V8 with over 400bhp.
  13. Those average figures are not that much below a IS200. Just shows how fuel economy has improved.
  14. Excellent suggestion. You may be able to get a replacement cabin filter, if it needs one, from them cheaper than Lexus. Might as well get it from same place to save on delivery.
  15. The next buyer of your car might spot the "non standard" windscreen and wonder what other damage the car has suffered. He might also assume that it was a low cost option and be thinking leaks in the future. In other words it might devalue the car and your windscreen man will certainly not compensate you then.
  16. That's astonishingly low, Where they 452's because they have a good name.
  17. Y is higher than W, so no problem. If it was the other way round you would have to inform your insurer because you would have modified the car to a lower tyre spec.
  18. Good bit of driving there mate. Your skill may have saved your lives. Should remind us all to give cars with smoking tyres a wide berth. At least you had a full size spare.
  19. I wonder how many M3 owners can claim this low level of running costs over 43,000 miles.
  20. I put one of these in my IS200. I think the spec is higher than OEM but, as it is not a UK car, I would check the dimensions and terminal connections. Would be amazed if they were different. 4 year warranty and they deliver next day http://www.alpha-batteries.co.uk/buy-online/car-batteries/12v-ultra-plus-005l-cheap-car-battery/prod_10.html
  21. Even if the ISF worked out more expensive, which I doubt, I would still choose it over the M3 on looks alone. I heard some time ago that after a high mileage, the M3 needs an engine rebuild - ouch.
