  1. Hi Everyone - little problem hopefully someone will be able to give me a hint towards a soloution before I have to take a 140 mile round trip to the stealership! My fans seem to have lost most of their power - seems to make little difference whether I'm trying to heat or cool the car, in air con or not, or even de-misting the window - I'd say the fans are blowing, at best, at about 30% what they were before. I did change a battery fairly recently, but other than that, I can think of no reason this has happened. They ARE blowing, but more like an asthmatic pensioner than the once proud chilly gale force it could muster with the temp on lo and the A/C on! Anyone got any suggestions? Blocked filters? Do all fans run on the same fuse circuit? Cheers in anticipation of some help!
  2. Hi everyone Slight problem hopefully someone can help me with! Over christmas with all the bad weather, I had to replace the battery in my 2006 IS220D - while doing this, I kept the cconnectors on a charge pack, and everything in the car was still working perfectly when completed - no radio stations lost, all sat nav data still there, no need to re-programme keys etc. However, 3 of my 4 windows had stopped working completely - the drivers window still operates perfectly, but the other 3 will not do anything (whether using the switches on the driver side, or the individual ones) Anyone got any ideas of how to fix this? Is there any chance it's just a fuse? if so does anyone know which one specifically? or even any other ideas of how to repai this without having to go to a dealer (my nearest is a 150 mile trip, and it'll probably be expensive too?) Thanks in advance for anyone who can offer any suggestions!

  5. UPDATE - My car was also due a service, so I got a full service, engine oil, oil filter, air filter, pollen filter, fuel filter etc, and when I collected the car, the fault was still showing, but the car was no longer im limp mode - went home, started the car the next morning and all was normal. Strange. Has this happened to anyone, that the "CHECK VSC" message clears itself? If so, did it come back again?
  6. I had the same issue, turned out to be the EGR valve. Also had the extended warranty, first they said that EGR valve was covered but CAT wasnt, then the EGR valve wasnt covered but as it was replaced less than 12 months ago (clearly a common fault!) they did it but indicated that the CAT wasnt covered and if it was damaged they would need to raise a case with Lexus GB - apparently the case's are quote successfully with a lot of owners getting everything for nothing. The Lexus garage did suggest that the EGR valve was moving to an extended cover from Lexus due to the many many failures. thanks mick. did check my service history,, and last december I had an egr valve and cat mod fitted, so hopefully this covers me.
  7. Yes! Small world! Yeah, I checked into the standard warranty since and it is 3. No bad thing, would have been REALLY annoying if it was 4! I did take out an extended warranty from the dealer when buying the car (an independent) so hopefull they'll cover it - though I can't see any mention of a cat converter on their list of items covered...
  8. Hi Everyone Have had my 220D SEL MM two years now, and fortunately (up to now) never had a single problem with it... However, yesterday the dashboard lit up (engine and VSC light) and the message was "CHECK VSC" I've had a search on here, and have seen people saying it can be anything from a bulb or diesel cap seal, right up to a £1900 catylitic converter change! I'm not sure I'm right, but I believe Lexus offer a 48 month warranty? The car is 49 months old... !!! However, I have also read of quite a few on here with the same problem saying their Local Lexus dealership repaired this for free as. a. a goodwill gesture, b. because the cat converter actually has a longer warranty than other parts. This does appear a common fault - can anyone advise what is the best thing to say to the dealership to get this fixed free - as with two newborn twins, I REALLY can't afford this! Also, can anyone confirm that the cat converter is covered on a longer warranty on these models? I think I read somewhere it's either 5 or 6 years (both of which I'm well within!) Finally, the car is occasionally going into limp home mode - not all the time, only occasionally, and is not starting in limp mode - even if Im diving and it goes into limp mode, just re-starting it starts it up out of limp mode... Unfortunately, my local dealership which I need to get it to is over 70 miles away, and I need to be sure I'm safe to drive it on the motorway - and also, if it is safe, is there any way I can disable the limp home mode just to get it to the dealership? Thanks to anyone who can help for any advice or experience with this kind of thing!
  9. Thanks for that Nic - I'll be sure to speak to William! I's surprised they replaced rear pads under warranty!
  10. Thanks all. Indeed - that guy is, and will remain, best ignored. I've had the car for 8 months now, and it's by far the best car I've ever owned (way better than the three series) and has not given me a second of problems - even on a 140 mile round trip today, half A roads, half Mway, it gave me 44mpg... However, I have now booked it in for friday to get any recall issues / warranty problems sorted out. So, could anyone let me know what issues there have been recalls / updates on that could affect my IS220D SEL MM? I have some bubbling in the alloys - they should replace these? ECU Remap Rear brake caliper Steering rack Is that everything is is there anything else I should be asking about? And should all the above be completed for free? Also, how much should a new nav disc cost? I may also get the updated one while there!
  11. Hi all. I've had my 220D SE-L MM (56 plate) for almost three months now, and, I have to say, it's perfect. It has not given me a single second of trouble, there is not a single squeak in the interior, every single thing in the c works perfectly and I've been over the moon with it - particularly as it only cost 12k with 30,000 miles. So, my question is a strange one... I'm aware there are many, many recalls for these cars - 5th injector, ECU remap, steering, brakes and so on. I'm no mechanic, and not as expert as any of you, so I don't even properly know what's involved, what these recalls do and so on. In fact, I'm not even fully sure what recalls are out there for 56 plate 220D's? I'm sure there are more I don't know about (are there any I SHOULD know about and are really necessary?) So, should I chase these up and get them done now before the warranty runs out (and with time to get them re-fixed under warranty if something goes wrong) or should I just leave well alone when it appears to be one of the good ones? Thing is - I would hate to NOT get a recall I was valid for done, and then have an item I could have had fixed for free break after the warranty expires. Also, my MPG isn't great - it's not awful, but not great - about 30 on 90% stop start town driving, rising to 40 on a clear A road or motorway run in cruise. I WOULD like this to be better, though... So, theres my conundrum - how possible is it that they could make things worse if I bring it in? That economy would go down, that problems would start to happen, that squeaks would start... Or can getting all the recall work done only make things better, and couldn't possibly be something I'd regret.? What would you do?
  12. To be honest, the new insignia and mazda 6 have far more design features and lines in common with the 220/250 than the avensis does (from the outside)
  13. Would "put your seatbelt on" be too obvious an answer? Seriously, though - why would people drive without wearing their seatbelt or want to? What next? "Can someone tell me how to disable all my airbags?"
  14. yeah, I know. It's also against UK law to drive with your fog lights on in non foggy conditions, or to beep your horn for anything other than as a warning ;) I bet it's as simple as a few correct button pushes - you'd think SOMEONE knows - or even that they'd do it and leave it up to the owner to take the consequences... Why is it illegal anyway?
  15. That's where I'd be as well. Think gold cars look terrible, but, different strokes for different folks. Personally, although harder to keep clean, dark colours look best by far with clear lights, chrome etc... For me 1. the strangely discontinued canterbury blue - beautiful in metallic when clean 2. caxondale slate 3. black 4. mesa red def. not : white and gold, and probably not silver.
  16. I would still love to be able to set the car to emit an audible beep when locking. It's certainly possible, and the car even beeps when you leave it with the engine on and the key in your pocket. Anyone know how, or even if a dealership will do it?
  17. As do I - it really is the nicest colour in them I think - and the pearlescence in the canterbury blue in sunlight REALLY sparkles. yes indeed, strange why it has been discontinued, spruced mine up on christmas eve with the carlack which gives amazing gloss and flake pop. Yeah, that is strange - I got the new brochure recently, and was shocked that they'd pulled what I consider to be the best looking colour. Still, means the colour I have will continue to be a bit rare and unusual - plenty of black, silver and red about, but I see very few cantebury blue.
  18. To be fair, I would believe it with a 3 series. Even in my old 3 series (which was a 2001 E46, 136bhp version) I was STILL getting about 38 on the same town driving that the 220D is giving me 22 for. And apparently, the fuel efficiency in the new ones is something else. BUT - they don't look as good, and have nowhere near the spec levels for the same money. It's all just a pay off.
  19. Yeah, that's EXACTLY what it feels like. When reversing out of my drive, there IS a small (like half an inch) kerb, and I at first thought it was that, but it never happened with my 3 series.
  20. It's also worth you noting that forums like this will, naturally, draw people who want to have a big complain, much more so than people who want to say "Hi All. I've had absoloutely no problems, this week. Again!" This guy in particular seems to have a big bee in his bonnet, but I can say categorically, even though my town running MPG is low, that I done 42mpg on an a road run yesterday, and even that was in some traffic, with slowing down, speeding up, accelerating on overtaking lanes, etc. And this is just the "Petrol only" type you'll see on any car forum, who thinks diesel is satans ***** and won't be convinced otherwise.
  21. I've only had mine a month, it's a just over 2 year old 220D with 34k miles. No creaks, no rattles, brilliantly specced, well finished interior, great looking, comfortable, and, coming from a 3 series, I find it quieter, much more comfortable, every bit as good to drive, and all in all I'm over the moon. I don't find first or second clunky at all - "satisfyingly solid" is what I'd call it - and was cruising happily up the motorway in 6th at 70mph the other day - you wouldn't get much accelleration from the 6th gear, but you can just drop down! Fuel economy IS low, though (mid 20's on town driving, about mid to high 30's on A roads - However, I've contacted lexus about it, and they are happy to look at it and do what they can, so hopefully it'll get sorted.)
  22. Strangely, I've been getting this as well over the last week or two, and wondered what it was???
