  1. the Altezza is diagnostic capable; the mechanic at NETZ used one to diagnose my mass air flow sensor. but not sure which ones are compatible. not sure if that helps anyone...
  2. the shipping seems to be going a little smoother than expected. Monday i de-register the vehicle and drop it off to be trucked to the shipping port. i am a little nervous, but the company i am going through seems to be reputable enough. i will keep everyone posted.
  3. the gaskets were really a pain in the rear. i ended up getting a silicone compound, not adhesive or glue, kind of like an industrial strength lube with semi sealant properties. also had to put some gun gum on my header/pre-cat pipe union. finally got the leaks all gone, but it still sounds like a Honda. need to work on the header gasket next i think. like i said before, i used all new bolts and springs and gaskets from Toyota. there is a possibility you will bend some flanges if you do not use the correct bolts and stuff. but some people just weld there pipes together. i will be in England by the end of the week. i may be offline until then, being as i am in transit. still working out car shipping issues. good luck with your exhaust Paolo. keep us posted with what you are doing and how it is going.
  4. i actually have my coil overs set to the highest recommended ride height right now, snow in northern Japan can be a hazard... and ice formations in the road are not helping my exhaust issues right now. but, once i get to England, hopefully with my Altezza, i want to put wider tyres on before i drop it. the car had HKS lowering springs on it, and i think that is why the cat was all scraped up and rusted out. plus there was a bit of a tow/camber problem, i do not think the guy who had it before me got the alignment done after he put those on.
  5. i have found a shipper. i really hope he comes through. anyone ever had experience pulling a car off a boat in South Hampton?
  6. well, I just found out that I may not be able to ship my Altezza to England from Japan. long story short, I have to do all the leg work, and I am running out of time. not to mention I will end up eating all of the costs and crap. man that sucks, no time to strip all my goodies off of her before I roll out, not too mention that if I end up selling it, I will never make back my investment. oh well, sucks to be me I guess.
  7. yes, Lloyd, that is ma lil feller. just a couple of days old in that pic, turns a year in a couple of weeks. getting anywhere with your car? maybe there is like a bee's nest or something in your intake? wouldn't that suck?
  8. whoa man, that sucks! what was that, did someone say 1G-GTE from MK III Supra? unless you are strapped for cash, and in bad need of a car, now is the perfect time to put an engine in your car that it deserves! personally, i would go through this engine and transmission section, and look at what different people have done. 2JZ-GE, 2JZ-GTE, 1JZ-GTE, 3S-GE, 3S-GTE, 1G-GTE... another 1G-FE? or you could pull your motor and blueprint it from the inside out... you have many options my friend. good luck with whatever choice you make. my condolences on the loss of your current engine.
  9. i had a similar problem, with an additional discrepancy: i could not rev over 4000 something RPM, it was like my ECU or instrument cluster lowered my red line or something? it was my mass air flow sensor in the air intake system. and, as Felix said, just a suggestion of something to check. but i have an Altezza RS200z, with the 3S-GE, so it could be completely different.
  10. when my radio went t!t$ up i was looking at doing the same thing, i temporarily had a different model head unit available to me. the dealer told me that it could not be the different head unit. i am pretty sure that every thread i have ever read about that subject on this forum confirms that. but if you could get the cables from the car you removed the unit from, i am sure you could do some basic wire splicing. of course it will physically fit, but it will take some doing wiring wise. in any case, i would be interested in any pieces parts that you want to discard.
  11. i thought that a downpipe was a tube going from the header of a turbo charged motor to the turbine? hey paolo, you should look at the pictures in my profile, may i suggest a fujitsubo super ex, the JDM part number is 620-23812 you may be able to order one online, like through SuperAutobacs, i was very lucky and got mine barely used through yahoo auctions japan. keep us posted on your progress, i am still trying to figure out why i have gone through 2 gaskets connecting my center pipe to my header... -
  12. I am about to import my car from Japan. Is this conversion a requirement to pass MOT?
  13. the cure for your ailment is the BMW 3 series. like deckie77 said, sounds like way too much. there are plenty of threads on here for engine swaps and such... you should read some of them and look at what some of those swaps encountered. if you can find a dude on here monster-mat, he put a 2JZ-GTE into an IS200. engine swapping takes quite a bit of dedication. and it will nickel and dime you to death, especially if you want the outcome to be a dependable daily driver. good luck though, don't be discouraged, just be aware. eagerness can be defined as a condition often cured by the realization of what is actually required for completion of a task
  14. i did not personally fix my radio. i ordered the CD unit and the guy i ordered it from swapped it for free. when i say CD unit, i mean the CD component of the OEM assembly. i just want the other head unit, to tinker with... i want to compare, that way if there is something preventative that can be done, i can do that. and there may be different things wrong with each separate unit... i do not know enought about it to repair for someone else. but i do know that it is one of the most common problems with this car.
  15. removing and reinstalling the fuse may give you limited time, but i would use that opportunity to remove the CDs, and nothing else. i had the err3, ended up going to a repair shop here in japan, and they swapped the CD part of the unit. the guy told me that there was a lot of dust (disc entry is just above the ash tray, and previous owner smoked), and the dust got into the gears, and the gear teeth just kind of crunched together. so, it may be worth removing and dismantling? i would be interested in your head unit when/if you decide to go aftermarket. i should be headed your way soon (to England that is), so please keep me in mind when it is time to discard. wish i could help you more.
  16. sxe10 = 3s-ge motor = RS200 gxe10 = 1g-fe motor = AS200 = IS200 jce10 = 2jz-ge motor = AS300 = IS300 in japan all are Toyota Altezza Lexus never put 3s-ge motor in the IS at the factory in japan Toyota Altezza Gita = Lexus IS Sportcross the majority of the chassis parts for sxe10 and gxe10 are interchangeable mostly just motor parts are not interchangeable not sure if it is just here in japan, or an engine thing, but jce10 parts are seldom interchangeable i read on this forum somewhere that all jce10 AS300 were gita wagon?
  17. the BMW 3 series would pretty much remedy most of these complaints... i don't have an IS200, i have an RS200z, and the biggest thing i don't like about it: people confuse it for an IS200.
  18. i can't tell for sure from the picture, but it looks like it bypasses the cat... you will be able to tell when you get under there, just hold the center pipe up for comparison. if it does not bypass the cat, then you can just get a hi-flow cat. please forgive my question: but is it legal to run straight pipe over there?
  19. you might try Toyota; and TRD or TTE, one of them may refurbish them for you being as they are also Toyota specialist. if i am not mistaken all Tom's stuff carries lifetime warranty, there should be someone at the Toyota dealership who could help you. if you don't have any luck with Toyota, TRD and TTE you might try TEIN. they may do it for a fee? not sure if they would have the right size stuff though. If you had posted this about a month ago, I would say send them to me. I would have taken them to Tom's for you myself. you might contact Tom's via internet. definitely hang on to those, they are by far some of the best coil overs made for this car. I am about to get a Tom's front tower brace myself. when I installed my coil overs the adjustment shank made contact with my TRD tower brace, so... any way, good luck with your dilemma.
  20. make sure you have new gaskets. i installed new gaskets, new bolts w/new springs, and new hangers. i also got a new rear support bracket set. give it about a week to seat before you decide to weld it. i am still working on a minor leak myself at the center pipe/header union.
  21. not that i doubt you mat, just curious, could you explain it for us mere mortals the difference between the LHD and RHD IS300 2JZ setups. apologize if this ends up as a threadjack...
  22. car drives real nice, we set the dampers real soft, and lifted it to the highest recommended setting (snow). i can not wait to slam it and tighten up those dampers; hoping to do bushings and control arms first. depends on how long i hold onto the car once i make it to England.
  23. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...?showtopic=1161 http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...showtopic=36499 those were a couple of threads i found with a quick search... hope it helps, good luck btw i pulled mine and i am getting it fixed by the manufacturer. not exactly sure what the Japanese guy was saying but there was quite a bit of dust, probably some ash since the owner before me smoked, and it clogged up some of the feeding gears. if i had caught it early enough, would have been a simple cleaning, no parts replacement... but most of the gears were chewed up and mangled, and some of the finer gear axles were bent out of shape, and i think a spring sprung or something like that; if you are just removing it to install another head unit, you could probably get rid of it on here for a good price, brand new they cost quite a bit, so don't get haggled down too much.
  24. the Altezza is not available in a (factory) color that does not make it look good in my opinion. go look at it in person, and you may find that it is more appealing than you think. over here they all seem to be the same color as mine, silver... i would personally love to have one in just about any other color. i think the fiberglass hood looks great on all of the other colors but mine, not that i have or need a fiberglass hood... maybe you can buy the yellow one, and we can trade when i get to England? (my wife would murder me after all the cash i have invested though) keep us posted on what you get, and i may be able to pick up some goodies for you while i am here in japan.
  25. whem my cd player went out, i went to the local netz toyota place and we looked it up, the head units are not interchangeable on my car. not sure why. there is a guy here who has an altezza, mostly same as mine, only his came with the mini disc/6 cd player, he was going to trade it to me for some gear... but the netz guy said it would not work, the netz guy kept pointing to the code on the front of the unit, like mat is telling you. mine is off getting overhauled somewhere in japan right now... let you know when i get it back
