  1. Price seems a little chunky, VED/road tax on a 350 is nearly £600 a year as well...
  2. Looks like it is, there appears to be a suspension height button on the dash
  3. I had a 300 SE Nav, many years ago, as I wasn't brave enough to purchase one with air. They were lovely cars for the time, but are now knocking on a bit. MPG is as you would expect from an old school 3.0 petrol in a heavy body and I think miss you would miss some tech that you take for granted having owned CT200 GS250, no parking sensors, no auto power fold mirrors, the car still has a tape deck! If you are super keen on an RX of that era have you considered the 400h?
  4. When I had one I always used super unleaded as I thought direct injection petrol engines were prone to carbon build up. This may have been marketing hogwash to get me spend more money on fuel though
  5. On Autotrader there is an option to select 'model variant'. Select 'Se' and it will bring up all Se variants. As soon as you select a car click on the interior pic, if you see a screen means you have a navigator, no screen means just a normal Se
  6. All SE models have memory seats (memory button is on door). Auto wipers /lights/boot all standard. Some people when they write the advert they don't list every single item, as they don't realise it has the feature or they forget to list it.
  7. Yes navigator has all toys apart from air suspension and Mark Levinson Hi Fi. The SE doesn't have air suspension, navigation or reverse camera
  8. The model you want is the 'SE Navigator'. You get leather, heated seats, xenons, electric mirrors/seats/tailgate/steering column/sunroof, dual zone climate xenons, cruise control, auto wipers/lights, auto dim mirrors, navigation and the reversing camera. All the toys that you could have on a car of that era, much better equipped than equivalent X5 and ML. I know a lot people use a phone for navigation but the dash looks a lot better with the screen in my view and the reverse camera is definitely useful as the car is large and doesn't come with parking sensors. The Sel adds air suspension. I wanted to avoid this as it seems very expensive to fix when it fails. You can raise the ride height, useful if you need extra ground clearance for off roading but you won't miss it driving to the shops. Cambelt is due at 90k, watch out for flakey alloys. Mpg is as you would expect from a 3.0 petrol 4x4. They do roll a bit in the corners and aren't quick, good solid family motors, I would have another
  9. I had a mk3, great cars. The issue you mention sounds like a headlight level sensor, the part is about £180 And half hour labour to fit. I had the same issue with mine. There are plenty of gs300 out there so I would want it fixed as part of the deal. In addition make sure you check the tpms works, look out for corroded alloys, Lexus seem to be terrible for this. Other than that solid cars
  10. I think it's the short gearing, a motorway cruise is about 3k rpm could really do with a 6th gear
  11. Yes I meant the parcel shelf, wouldn't want to be without it though, keeps stuff hidden from prying eyes
  12. I once had an IS300 Sportcross and have owned an RX300 SE I would say make sure you get one with sat nav and reverse camera, you may not use the sat nav but the interior looks a lot better with it. As others have said avoid sel, air suspension too expensive to fix, buy pre March 06 otherwise you will get shafted on VED/ road tax Make sure it comes with the luggage cover, these are expensive only available from Lexus and a lot had them missing when I was looking Belt change is every 90k or 10 years whichever is first, get water pump done at same time. Don't know much it is, mine had already been changed. The IS300 liked a drink, the RX300 is even worse, fuel economy is shocking, you won't see 300 miles to a tank and it's a big fuel tank nearly 16 gallons. I only do 5k a year so don't really care but have owned V8 cars that were a lot quicker and more economical. I used to get about 26ish in the IS300 Sportcross, gen 2 GS300 25ish, gen GS300 about 32, the 6 speed and direct injection make a huge difference. Performance is not great is about 9ish seconds 0-60, gearbox is not quick to kick down and a bit dopey, no buttons on steering wheel to change gear, have to use gearstick. The car rolls a lot in corners and doesn't like being chucked about, the is300 is a lot more fun to drive. It's not all negative though, the boot is huge, lots of space, nothing ever broke, the heated seats get really toasty, loads of toys, super build quality, the xenons are a lot brighter than the IS300, drop the rear seats and it's like a transit van, invest in an up to date nav disc (£25) and it will do the job. I didn't the like the OEM Bridgestones, too much road noise, the Dunlop SP270 is a much better. Hope this helps
  13. Those mats need a good scrub! Ved on that is £500+, needs new rear as well according to mot history
  14. I had one until recently, bonnet was starting to bubble on leading edge. I was told was galvanic corrosion and not rust as the bonnet is aluminium. They came with 12 yr anti corrosion warranty so you may get lucky depending on model year. Corroded alloys every Lexus I have has suffered from this, wheel refurb about £70ish a corner so not too bad TPMS. The batteries in them are getting on a bit. I had to replace a couple although there is a way to remove the battery from the sensor and replace even though it's a sealed unit. Nice motors really good on fuel for what they are, found mine a bit dull though
  15. Took the car to the garage and the following codes came up on diagnostic; C2123 Cannot receive data from the transmitter id3 (main) C2177 Initialization un-completing I think I will just get the remaining 3 sensors replaced, and be done with it, the wheels that is, not the car!
  16. The garage ordered the sensor and fitted it, I will have to wait and see what they say tomorrow, the tpms is a pain in the arse! I thought there might be a quick fix !
  17. Right a little update, I took the car to another garage and had a few items attended to. Only needed 1 tpms, had a couple tyres, and some other sundries. Was told to drive the car for 20 mins, and light would go out, however this has not happened. The car had a full diagnostic, was shown the results, nothing wrong with tpms. Does anybody know the correct initialization procedure? I looked at the manual but I don't think it was clear. Thanks in advance
  18. I've seen sensors on ebay all 4 for £135, non genuine but ones that can be coded, then surely it's cause of coding the sensors to the car? Is something any garage can do or do I need a specialist?
  19. Hi I'm told the tpms batteries in the sensors are all dead and it's £360 to get them coded and fitted. This sounds very expensive to me considering I have seen sensors for £25 each, unless Lexus use special ones. What's the going rate for a job like this?
  20. I called these guys when I needed a new key. www.themasterlocksmith.co.uk. They have very active facebook page if you want to message them on there instead. They recoded existing key (remote buttons stopped working) and cut and coded a brand new key for £90 quid, took less than hour. The plastic casing on key was different. I was told the standard Lexus keys were prone to cracking. I was quoted £288 originally by Lexus....
  21. Hi all I'm looking to purchase a lexus gs 2005 onwards. I have read a few reports about very heavy oil consumption (1l per 1000km). Some sources say this is normal others have required pistion ring replacement, although this seems to be in the USA and Australia. I have had few 3.0 Lexus before and have never needed to top up the oil between services. Also I understand that the engine uses a chain rather than a belt, are these maintenance free? Am I over thinking or would I be better off searching for a 430? I can't go for a 450h as boot is far too small. Thanks in advance
  22. I wish I knew about the key programming a couple of months ago, I ended up taking the car to an auto locksmith who reprogrammed an existing key and cut and programmed a brand new key while I waited (35 mins) for £100!
