  1. The 'S' reg GS300 I bought a 3 months ago had this installed by a previous owner. Kenwood DNX 5220 BT which has Bluetooth, DVD,CD,Radio,Sat Nav,iPod,USB,rear parking sensors, rear view camera, and Amp in the boot. Hope this helps. Cant find the preview button on this new site setup!!. AAh edit button oops!!!. It also has TV if you buy the optional Tv tuner.
  2. If the tyres are wearing unevenly they will sound like shot wheel bearings.
  3. Although my experience is as described and the specs are well within those recommended I am always willing to learn - what do you suggest? Lexus Coventry, amongst others, now use fully synthetic "low ash" oil in all Lexus models. When I enquired (via Opie Oils) what the "low ash" signified, as I had never heard the term before, and its suitability for my GS430 they replied as below: "In that case the low ash formula is completely irrelevant to you. It's for diesels less than about 5 years old in the case of Lexus and Toyota. It's fine to use in petrol engines, but is not necessary." I was a long term member of the NSU Ro80 Club and most members used Shell monograde detergent diesel oil as the additives in multigrade oil burnt to ash and fouled the rotor side seals with gum so they stuck in their grooves and allowed compression to pass into the other chambers so, no suck no bang!. A good dollop of Redex in with a tank (18 gallon)of 2star fuel also helped.
  4. I think this is what I want, the pin with retaining clip. One would do but two wouldn't be refused along with two anti-rattle springs.
  5. I used GS struts on my LS Doh I should have swopped them over before I sold the GS. ......and the rear caliper pins and things for me!!!!!!
  6. Thx Steve, ACLex said the IS has the same calipers and I came across a picture of an IS caliper on ebay from a breaker and it shows one pin and that had me wondering but now you've cleared up that issue.I'm sure when I had the LS, Benfur supplied rear discs that came off a GS so thats made me think all rear brakes are common. Before you blow anything up go around with a metal detector to see if there's any spare caliper pins. The search continues...Regards. Jim.
  7. TF & S2006, I had the car in for underneath check and oil change and we decided to skim the front discs which were'nt bad but the results were well worth it and swap the wheels back to front. The rear pads have a bolt through one of the holes and no anti-rattle springs. The rear discs are nearly new(previous owner)and a garage stamp in the book to confirm. I'm not sure if the shims are in or not but if they're available may as well get them and do the job properly. No slide pins on the rear. The fronts were stripped and cleaned and lubed before re-assembly.I've used the same Father/Son business for over 10yrs now with no problems at all. No joy at Biggred, thx for suggestion. I'll post a picture when the wheels are off.
  8. Has anyone got a surplus rear brake pad fitting kit for MK2 GS300 'S' reg. (shims, pins)Not having any luck with breakers, ebay or motor factors. Multitude of pads from £15 upwards. Lexus Newcastle quoted £40 pads,£35 shims and £30 pins. Thank you. PS. are these common to other models,ie IS or LS
  9. I put GS300 bonnet struts on mine. The aerial mast comes out by unscrewing the top nut on the aerial, switch on ignition and radio, the mast and plastic drive come out, switch off then on and the drive releases itself and pulls out.Replacement mast came off ebay about 15 quid with instructions.
  10. Cassettes are notorious for sticking especially cheap makes and anything over C90's. Insert a Bic type pen into the spool centre and turn the spools both ways to loosen the tape whilst keeping a bit of pressure on the other spool so the tape isn't slack inside the case. Then try fast forward/rewind the complete tape. As TF says try a tape cleaner but these are abrasive so use sparingly. A cotton wool bud and correct type of alcohol based cleaner(Maplins)can be used to clean the heads, capstan and rollers. Use a pen torch to look inside the cassette drawer to make sure there's no muck or broken bits of tape snarled up and jamming the mechanism.
  11. That sounds quite cheap for 5 litres Minories in Sunderland want nearly double. It would be interesting to know if that part number is correct. Just checked it with Lexus Newcastle and for 5 ltrs its £54.92 inc vat and the same part number.

  13. Does this sound right. 5 Litres of Toyota Auto Transmission Fluid ATF Type IV Pt. No. 08886-82025. £24.17inc vat. Hodgson Toyota Gateshead.
  14. There was a breaker in Birmingham 07881 780171 had an LS with what looked like the same wheels as mine. Good luck
  15. Wow & Steve, Thanks for that. I now have a clear idea from your info. Discs and pads have plenty of meat on them just wanted to check pads and clean out any gunge before weather gets too cold plus there's been a lot on LOC about sticky pins.
  16. Now that the outside is looking the way I want, just a look on the inside at the Kenwood that was fitted by a previous owner and the Mutant amp in the boot. I will probably move the amp to under the rear parcel shelf out of harms way.It doesn't have a TV tuner(optional cost, I believe) and a Sat/Nav map update is costly(it doesn't do post codes) Not too bothered about that but the 98 page manual's a right heed ache.Nice sound though from CD,iPod and Radio.
  17. Are the front calipers the type that pivot (rotate) when the top bolt, in the picture, and its corresponding one below the flexi are loosened and one removed, exposing the pads held in by the anti rattle springs.Thx.
  18. No they were an accessory option for the GS. Looks good, always liked those wheels on the GS. Yes, I'm more than happy with the look of the new wheels and tyres, far better than the 4xTSW 18" alloys that were on when I bought it so they are now surplus to requirements so will go on ebay shortly.
  19. Hopefully, to add a finer point to Ambermarine's suggestion, use an Oxy/Acetylene welding torch with a number 2 nozzle which is very small but will concentrate the heat precisely where its needed. On Maurice's point, this is a real contentious issue with me, as every car maker assembles their cars 'dry' so making maintainence on older cars so much more difficult as every thing seizes solid. Wire brush and emery the shanks and run the nuts down the thread in a vice and plenty grease on assembly. Rant Over!!
  20. I ended up trying a local long established family run business that's now run by the son and he gave lots of choice and advice and I had a full set of Goodyear 225/50/17, nearly new, same tread pattern, fitted for £150. We were going to Durham City 10 miles down the A1M for the Lumiere so a good test for the tyres and they ran well, quiet and comfortable, no vibes or pulling, so very pleased.
  21. Wheels are stamped 8J x 17H2. It's looking like Falken's on Friday.
  22. They were on Ebay a couple of weeks ago and I made arrangments to pick up at my convenience, ie; we were in that particular area last week so saved courier charges. I left the spare at home, carried a can of tyreweld, and 3 wheels went in the boot and the other was wrapped and strapped on the back seat. Initial local tyre prices, Falken x4 £400 and Mohawk(made by Hangook) x4 £320. I'll get a couple more quotes and then decide.
  23. This is the stamp on inside of wheel. It also has OZeu. So, are they Lexus wheels made by OZ or OZ wheels made to fit Lexus. 17" but not sure of the 'J' number.I'm made up my mind to fit all new tyres (235/45/R17) so hunting around for a good deal locally ie; Falken always get a good response on the forums,Lassa,Wanli,Nankang all medium priced but quiet running is top priority.
  24. Can you spot the difference?................OK..give up!!!. Its clean and the aerial works and the new wheels and part worn tyres came off ebay but I'm now looking for comfort tyres as these ones on are far too low a profile for my liking.
