  1. I used a two pronged pulley puller and left the nut just off the top so the puller centred on didn't slip off. Failing that do what ambermarine said but use a wide blade screw driver to put some weight on the under side of arm and tap the nut with a small hammer and that worked for me.The problem is two dissimilar metals 'welding' themselves together. Clean and lube before reassembly.
  2. In the service book there's a stamp from a local garage which includes a timing belt change. Ever the optimist, I took the cover off to check and the belt seems to be new as there's no visible signs of wear and looking at the teeth they still have the 'weave' marks and if it was old I would think they would be worn smooth. Is it an OEM belt or would that have Lexus printed on it. Nice day today so daffyed up the engine bay with 1/2" and 1" paint brush to remove the dirt and dust and Armor All on the black bits and it comes up a nice satin black. At the moment enjoying this car but still looking for OEM wheels (see previous posts). Some of the breaker prices just aren't real with Vat and Carriage adding nearly £100 in some cases
  3. Checked the puddle bulbs and both were ok so cleaned and refitted them and puddles came on along with courtesy lights.Pretty pleased with such a simple cure.If either rear door is opened its lights come on along with main light in front.Just like the book said.

  5. I took the car out in the dark for the first time since buying it and noticed the rear courtesy and puddle lights are not working no matter which door was opened. The courtesy lights work if switched on and the manual says the lights should work no matter which door is opened.I believe modern cars have the operating switches built into the door mechanisms. Its raining here this morning so haven't had a chance to look. Any ideas please. Thx.
  6. Hi Raykhan, Thanks, that's good thinking, Hope they turn up. Regards. Jim
  7. Anyone got a set of these GS 300 SE 16" alloys in good nick with good tyres please.I've been on ebay,247 Spares and 1st Choice and not really had any satisfaction either way ie. poor quality photos, high prices, unreturned calls etc. Thanks.
  8. If there's no lip then they probably aren't worn much so consider having them skimmed, about £25 pair.
  9. Biggest difference, comparison wise, is the GS is in much better condition than my LS was.As the top pic shows, the aerial doesn't fully retract but I fixed that today with a new aerial mast off ebay with very clear instructions, next day delivery and £14.50 and washed it.Lots of calls to make next week re: 16" wheels so should get fixed up.
  10. I would like 4 of these as this is the spare and probably original equipment.Only 4 x18" wheels and they need a refurb. There has been some interest and I'll post my comparisons once I have 16" wheels on it.
  11. .. Bought this on a bit of a whim.It was on Autotrader locally(4mls)the day before I was going to Staffs for a week and because it looked in really good nick I did the deal and drove it the 200mls the next day and back again a week later. It has FSH 8xLexus, 7 of them by the 2nd owner every October for 7 years and circa 6000mls a year and 2 services up here at local garages inc timing belt, discs and pads,78000mls,2 remote keys, new MOT and 4mths tax. I thought it might look a bit tacky with after market rear parking sensors and camera,Sat/Nav but it's nice and neat and I didn't know the capability of the S/N, but it's a Kenwood DNX 5220BT with boot mounted amp (googled it @ £560 new) and it does rear view when in reverse,Radio,CD,DVD,S/N,memory stick,Ipod,Tv and bluetooth with a 98 page manual. If I can work the basics I'll be happy.I dont like the 18" wheels, which need a refurb, but have excellent tyres,2 nearly new, so I'm on the lookout for 16" 5 spoke alloys as originally fitted. The aerial doesn't retract fully ( Sat 15/10/11 new aerial mast fitted today and working Ebay £14.50 next day delivery)but I think I've seen on here the innards can be unscrewed from the outside and replaced with new (ebay £18).Aerial was bent near the base thats why it didn't retract completely. Charcoal leather and non smoking interior is as new, where every thing works inc drivers heated seat. The pics were taken after 400 mls on the M1 so looks a bit mucky but if the weather improves,it'll get it polished and I'll stick some more up.
  12. . Sold the MK3 LS a year ago and been looking for a MK4 but nowts turned up locally except this so bought it on a bit of a whim!!. Will do a write up on it, on the GS300 forum. It's not red, it's Tuscany Flame!....and they are 18" wheels which have got to come off as I prefer original 16" 5 spoke alloys.
  13. Is it much of a job to retrofit S/N to a MK2 or is it a pain with miles of wiring etc.or even uneconomic. thx.
  14. Is your cooling system working well and getting up to temperature quickly and staying there. The LPG has to vaporises at 30C I think. There are or were LPG fitters at Sunderland on Durham Rd,one at Fencehouses on Lumley pit site,Meadomley or is it Meadowfield and at Dunston near the Metro Centre. I have no connection with any nor have I used them. Just hope this helps. It seems your conversion has not met expectations since getting your 430 done. Just dug this out. Dave,Autogas Conversions,DH4 6DU. 01913852961 / 07946299718. ?,St.Johns Rd,Meadowfield, DH7 8RE. not sure who they are.
  15. NEVER EVER play CHEAP tapes.NEVER EVER play anything other than C90 max.Always turn the spools both ways with a Bic pen to make sure they're not sticking. Always wind/rewind the tape through the machine before playing.I bought my 1st car cassette player, a Pioneer with only volume control and a FF button, in 1971, and if memory serves me right,it was over £30 then.I've even took out the Bose CD in my Accord and put in a Bose radio/cassette with Alpine cd changer so as to listen to my hundreds of home made tapes done on TDK Super Avilon.
  16. The E39 V reg BMW 528 I had a couple of years ago(which was replaced with my 1st LS400)went onto gas within half a mile of running. The cooling system must be spot on as I think the gas evaporates at 30degrees so the quicker the engine heats up the better. It may be worth changing the thermostat.Did you have it done local as there is a couple of long standing installers in Co.Durham.
  17. Tell us what the problems were as there's plenty on here happily using gas and I've not had problems with other cars on gas(not Lexus)
  18. £250 is what they'll advertise it for. Selling price could be very different.Still, as you say it cost nowt.
  19. Good response. I've seen a lot on here when I 1st joined about caliper pins etc so I'm ok with the spanners on that sort of thing.I'm going to have another look and see if the sellers had a tyre/tracking test and a good look at the history.Again,on here,I checked the audio pixels and they're ok. You'll have to let us know how and where to do the touch screen update, straight forward swop?. Thx.
  20. Bought my 1st Lexus, an LS 400 and loved the engineering standards and sold it after a year in November. There's a GS MK2 for sale in my area (NE10)eaby item no. as above which I've test driven.I'm looking for some info as in the listing it states: Heated windscreen?.Does this model have heated rear seats, squab and backrest, electric folding mirrors,toolkit,1st aid kit etc.It pulls to the left as well as steering wheel wobble which isnt' the way to present a car for sale.It may well be a simple balance and tracking but a bush, ball joint, wishbone or maybe its clouted a kerb in the recent snow and bent summat. Nice car otherwise. Thanks for any comments.
  21. It's a Lotus 49 and there's the Jim Clark Museum in Duns near Coldstream in the Scottish borders, well worth a visit and for me a wonderful drive through the Northumberland country side.Tyrell P34 6 wheeler with Partic Depailler. Both these models are Exoto 1/18th scale with tremendous detail and probably cost over £100 now.The P34 was done in kit form by Tamiya in 1/9th scale, quite rare now. The Tamiya kit is 1/24th scale wwith far better detail than others and its the Celsior because that one comes in R/H/D form where as the Lexus kit is L/H/D. I have the wwheels and decals from another kit because they are 'chrome' and the decals are Lexus to replace the Celsior ones. It's great being 14 again. There was a programme on TV the other day showing the 6 wheel Tyrell from a rear wing mounted camera looking down at the cockpit and 6 wheels. Marvelous site. Ebay under Toys & Games and model kits.
  22. I've got another one!!. Well,it will be be much warmer as a total rebuild is required over the winter. When its finished it'll go in my collection of personal transport I've used since taking a ride on the Low Fell tramcar to trolley buses, buses, steam trains, bikes, planes and my cars I've owned. I also like innovative engineering ie: Tyrell P34, Mazda 787B, Norton Featherbed frame, wan kel Rotary engine etc.
