  1. I can certainly help as I have vast personal experience on this!!!! I had what appears to be the same problem. You will need to check the disk tho. Lexus should be able to take one out of their stock cars and test it for you. I tried several and still had the same problem (you can search on my previous posts for the background!). Anyway, first thing was Lexus sent to bradford, autosound - dont bother, they received the unit then send it back as they dont repair the denso unit. Denso units (which are in the toyotas and lexus) cannot be repaired at all within the UK due to the availability of parts. At the time this left me with only 2 options, Lexus to replace (they said the whole unit @ £3600) or risk a second hand one. I wasnt happy with either so did some digging. Denso is based in the netherlands and now offer a Lexus / Toyota repair service. My Lexus garage had not heard of this service although it has been communicated to Toyota Europe. Anyway, I sent Lexus the Denso repair procedure and they handled the return. It cost 120 quid to send to Netherlands as it needs to be insured using Parcelforce Euro 48 (guaranteed 48 hours although it took 5 days and this was before the volcanic ash!). Denso identified the problems pretty quick and emailed the following faults: Broken cable on DVD unit Faulty ECU Repair cost 685 euro. I found after this did not include return shipping but they should have quoted with return shipping so I managed to negotiate with Denso and get it returned free. All the other funtions appeared to work before the unit went off (although couldnt test a the navi as DVD didnt work, also speech recognition didnt appear to work). I was therefore sceptical about the faulty ECU but I have only had the car a month and the NAV has never worked so I guess there could have been a fault with the ECU as well. Anyway, Lexus have paid the repair on my behalf and its on the way back as we speak. Total cost will be around £800 but as Denso manufacture the unit they are best placed if you want to repair and the work is guaranteed (if you fancy the 120 quid postage again!). I got the car from an independent garage and pointed out the NAV fault before purchase. They will be covering the £800 for me. If your car is from a Lexus dealer I would suggest a call to Lexus UK, they should do something as good will. If not, you can try the above process but due to delays in bradford, postage, parts for denso (due to flight bans), it has been a bit of a nightmare! For info, if yours just has a fault DVD (not ECU as well) then the cost is a couple of hundred Euros.
  2. Here is the Lexus blurb on it including costs and FAQ, I would suggest contacting your local Lexus centre to see if they can do anything on price. http://www.lexus.co.uk/lexus-services/lexus-care/warranties/extended-warranties/index.aspx As far as I am aware things like bulbs etc arent covered (and there expensive if they are HIDs)
  3. My left bulb appears to have an issue/ Car also 3.5 yrs old with 60K. When its on it dont appear to be as bright and it keeps going off. I suspect previous owner put a cheap bulb in (had the car 3 months). Seen the direct replacement philips from flea bay for 50 quid with 3.50 delivery from what appears to be a reputable seller. Also looked at the DIY but a little unsure. Spoke to a local garage (name got from here as independent service garage in SOT with Lexus experience). They said ~40 quid labour as front bumper needed to come off.
  4. I have a 220D sport which happily goes into 6th gear @50 mph. If I set the cruise at 70 I get around 42 to 44 mpg. Set it at 80mph and it drops to 36-38mpg (revs are at around 2300rpm).
  5. Hi and welcome to the forum.... I believe the 220D has a timing chain not belt, hence, should not need replacing for the life of the engine (some post say 100K or 6 yrs, but seems to be contended). Keep the oil changes as the chain needs lubricating. There will be a tensioner but not sure if this is part of a service item.
  6. Did you decide on getting one of these? If so, how did it go? Alternatively, anyone else with any ideas on the boot spoiler (OEM or equivalent).
  7. I have a 2006 220 D sport which has every extra but it dont auto-lock. I havent been able to find a setting to enable either.
  8. Hi, the EGR valve is not cleaned as part of the major / interim service or MOT. Lexus will clean it if asked, however, there is a how to here if you want to DIY. Alternatively take it to a trusted independent garage, shouldnt cost you a lot. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=64978&st=0&p=707644&fromsearch=1entry707644
  9. Nope, I have a 220D sport which I think is a little bit less economical due to its gearing (for instance, on motorway @ 60 the revs are higher than std 220's). Even so, I can get around 34-38 combined (tank average) motorway, A-roads and around town. If I reset on motorway and average 70 I can get ~42-44 mpg. There are plenty of posts on this subject but a couple of suggestions: Whats the mileage? may be worth looking at the EGR valve. There are posts on this and how to clean. Use a good fuel (not supermarket) - I use shell diesel and you do get more MPG (and less smoke). I have run the last two tanks with Eco Max fuel treatment, get no smoke at all now. Takes a bit of time to get used to driving the engine properly. Use the torque and keep the revs between 1.5 - 2.5, you dont need to go over really as it thrashes the fuel and the power is between this range. This doesnt mean you have to nurse it everywhere, I dont.
  10. I thought that HID bulbs were v. expensive. I was quoted 190 quid from Lexus! Searching the t'internet the cheapest (philips which I believe Lexus use) were about 50 quid from Germany. Read that the cheap china ones were useless.
  11. Finished the first tank full with ecomax, pulled in off the motorway after 500 miles but reckon it would have pushed another 40 miles. Tank Avg 38.3 (mixture as stated above). Overall I am ok with this as the power was there when needed! Thing I reckon with the sport is because of the ratio, the MPG will suffer more 80+ mph, at 80 its ~2600 rpm iirc, but will happily cruise at 50 mph in 6th (through the motorway road works) and dont need to drop it down a gear to accelerate happily back to 70+. I havent noticed any smoke at on this last tank of petrol. Not sure if its the ecomax helping, it was on shell low sulphur (the standard shell diesel).
  12. Cheers! appreciate it! I am hoping I have a solution now. Spent the weekend searching the net then monday making some calls. The denso single DVD unit is a nightmare to get repaired, none of the audio shops would touch it as denso do not release the service parts! I did send denso an email and then found out that they have now agreed a repair process with Lexus with a facility in Belgium. This didnt seem to be a well known fact even within Lexus (dealer and GB never heard of this facility). I had to email Lexus with the Toyota / Lexus denso repair procedure (which I got from denso after asking). Left it with Lexus now to progress so hopefully it will get back to denso for repair. Worth bearing in mind as a lot cheaper than replacement plus a 12 month warranty. If all goes well I will pop up a post as I had to really delve around for this!
  13. Had my 220D sport for around 4 weeks now. When I first had it I wansnt impressed with the MPG, however, now I know how to drive it - between 1500 - 2000 RPM I can now get around 36 tank average and currently 41 with a mix of town / A roads and motorways including a few occassions stuck in traffic (tested over 150 miles). Doesnt mean driving like miss daisy either (which i dont!), the power is right there when you need it at them revs and pointless driving it past 2500 rpm imo. With the sport mine will run in sixth gear happily >55mph I do run Shell diesel and I have recently put a shot of the millers ecomax diesel fuel treatment.
  14. There was one on ebay from a 2009 car with low mileage @699 or best offer, but didnt look into it as the unit was going of to autosound for repair. I am a little disgruntled as the fault with the unit was clearly the nav drive and to find out after it being removed and sent off that they cant repair the nav drives was disappointing, I cant imagine its the first time they have been asked about the sat nav unit. But anyhow, the independent garage is picking up the labour and investigation costs. The one on ebay was sold by the time I found out I need a replacement. I have registered the request with 247parts and also contacted fixmyradio.co.uk. At the end of the day, it is up to the garage that sold me the car but trying to help them out as I need it fixed or replaced sooner rather than later.
  15. Well, heres the latest - lexus removed the unit, spoke to Autosound then sent to Autosound for repair. Autosound took a look and then said that the Denso device (which is the sat nav reader) isnt a serviceable item they have on their records (would be nice to know before!). So they are returning back to Lexus. Now Lexus have the only option of selling me a new one at the bargain price of £3700 + VAT! I asked for this to be considered by Lexus GB as car is 3.5 yrs old and <60K but because I went to an independent garage they wont do anything. So its back to the independent garage to sort as I told them of the issue before sale and got the faulty DVD wrote onto the quote! Neat tho, as I have a great big gaping hole in my dash that is crying out for a working sat nav unit!
  16. My tank average is normally ~33 combined (motorway and round town) and when I fill up it generally says around 380 range. I have reset my trip counter the last two fills and get ~420 - 440. Iirc it took around 54 litres so about 11.8 gallon which means on 420 which is ~35mpg - assuming my calcs are correct :-)
  17. My local lexus garage agreed for £316 for the 60K service although on a 220D. After asking this was with part synth despite me expecting full. Lexus Edinburgh serviced the 220D throughout its life on full which meant I paid £350 to have it done with Mobil 1.
  18. I have tagged onto a couple of other threads on styling / mods saying I am looking for a SR bootlip spoiler (reckon I prefer the SR to F-Sport but would take the latter if struggling to source the SR). Ebay has a load of stick on ones from Thailand but not so sure, would like OEM or close to. Any ideas? Asked Lexus Stoke but they said they only came painted at around 400 buns!
  19. Just picked car up after 60K service @ Lexus (where they do alignment again and I still get the noise). Did you change all four tyres done? Also, did you change for the same brand / tread pattern?
  20. My 220 does that, i thought it was while the car was cold and havent noticed it happening as much once the normal temp is reached.
  21. I had agreed 316 in Stoke for the 20K service on a 220D. However, when I asked what oil they said semi syth. Lexus Edinburgh which did the previous services had told me they had used fully syth. I had to pay 350 then for the service with Mobil 1 so I would check.
  22. Car has just had its 60K service at Lexus. Asked them to check the EGR valve but their records show it had a new one last June so they havent bothered. Dont think it covered many miles from then either! Guess I may have another problem or feature. iirc I did a reset with CC set at 70mph in 6th gear and struggled to get above 40MPG.
  23. Did you test for the problem after the tryes had been fitted, before the wheel alignment?
  24. Interesting, I took mine into F1 Autocentres and they said alignment was out 2mm iirc. Anyway, paid the 30 quid for it to be done and hey presto I still have the same issue, knocking on full lock..... Lexus stand by the fact that its a feature!
