  1. Quick question on AFS - the adaptive front headlights. It's blatently obvious at night what you take a right hand bend. You can see the beam turn in, however, I find it difficult to notice going round left handers. Is this because of the drivers position (on the right) or do I have a fault? Ballasts were replaced about 3 months ago under extended warranty - Well I say ballasts but its the whole headlight unit, left and right replaced. The beam does level both sides when starting the car.
  2. For info, I did mine again on the way to work. Reset on M6 and drove about 20 miles not going much above 70 and with the odd bit of traffic not going below 60 so constantly in 6th Gear. The AVG was 45.4 MPG.
  3. Well luckily I have a Lexus warranty as they are using semi at my next service. Last time it cost me an extra 40 quid for mobil 1. This time they can do what they recommend (semi)... only paying 105 for the interim 10k service.
  4. I tried 4 x Lexus garages and they all recommended Semi. They charged me extra for putting Mobil 1 Full in! I think the manual also says Semi (ready to be corrected).
  5. Welcome to the forum. I have the same motor but I can squeeze a little more than that. Generally my tank avg is about 32MPG (mixed round town and motorway). I had a new EGR valve in July but it was about the same before! I run it on Shell fuel as better than supermarket. With the sport you get better economy on A roads in my opinion as you can put it in 6th at 60mph. On the motorway try setting the cruise at 70MPH and reset the AVG MPG. Leave it for 10 miles or so and see what you get. Mine will be around the 40 - 44 MPG depending on conditions. Worth checking all recalls are done, lexus will tell you.... When it's next in ask about the ECU version. iirc for pre 2007 "500" is the latest. Post 2007 is "600". Mine was upgraded from "400" to "500" when it was last in. They did mine FOC. Finally it does take a bit of getting used to making the most of the gearing and torque up to 3,000 RPM, but in summary it aint a very economical engine but I still love the car and drive it so I enjoy it.
  6. I had to ask Lexus to use fully sythentic last time in the service as all the Lexus garages I spoke to said they used semi.
  7. Mine went back into Lexus this week for 70K service and MOT - no issues with either but I asked them about the smoking - as previously said on this forum my EGR valve failed last July so was replaced. Anyway they have said they will have the car back in for a week to take the engine apart, as suspect pistons (probably rings etc) so by the sounds of it they will be rebuilding the top part of the engine. I think a few 220d's on here have had the same work done under warranty (this car is covered for this up to 100K iirc pre-2007 cars). It still may very well be the EGR again (cleaning iteself or about to go) but it is getting worse. Well as I have a courtesy car I thought I would let rebuild as apparently the new parts they fit arent succeptable to the same issues.
  8. Sorry to post slight off-topic. I did try a PM but apparently you cannot receive? Nice car! Did you get it like that or mod? I have a 220D sport, same wheels and I wanted that front bib and the rear spoiler which appear to be off the SR (GFX). Did you add them yourself? and if so does that mean the f-sport decals are an add on? Cheers Mick.
  9. I asked about minor repair / touch up and got the following. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=68059&st=0&p=726720entry726720 Not got round to it yet and I kerbed one wheel on the other side last week :-( There's a van advertising repairs near where I live also mentions kerb repairs so may just get the two front done properly.
  10. Hi, I am probably missing something here, but the under mirror lights do not come on when leaving the car? At least on mine, pull up, switch off, open the door and lock and no lights - am I doing something wrong? I would also like the under mirror lights to recognise the key a little further away. At the moment I am practically in the car before they come on - on the other hand I can take the key out and use the unlock from a long, long way off and it works but sort of contradicts the whole point of the perimeter detection - I guess all the systems are linked (mirror lights, ability to unlock boot / doors) so that the doors cant be opened until your right by the car but the light working a little further away would be nice.
  11. You are right to be concerned, as was I when I got mine from a private garage and the warranty ran out. I followed some advice on here and got 2 yr extended warranty from Lexus. It aint cheap but then neither are the repairs that are likely to happen on your car. So far, I have recouped all the money I shelled out on the warranty in the first 3 months with replacement of the headlight unit due to ballasts failing!
  12. No, drives well, power throughout the rev range from just over 1500 rpm. Like I say EGR valve was done recently so either it's cleaning itself or its about to fail again for the 3rd time in 18 months.
  13. Mines doing exactly the same. It did it at the start of the year, EGR valve subsequently failed in June on the M6! Lexus did it under warranty as it had a valve July 2009, and guess what it's doing it intermittently again now. Car's done around 4000 miles since the EGR valve done!!! Got a service due v.soon so will be mentioning it again. Drive's perfectly well but cant help thinking that anytime now the VSC's gonna light up and into limp mode.
  14. I think the problem with the copied versions is that it doesnt install the firmware change that allows you to change navigations options whilst on the move. http://www.lexus-mapupdates.eu/ is another option, reading peoples posts on here they appear to sell genuine copies cheaper than Lexus. Again, check the versions to ensure you get the very latest which should have just come out.
  15. What version are they supplying (Exx)? I believe that Lexus release a new version every year around November but dont recall seeing any info on the Nov 2010 release which I guess will be called 2011. Also, how much they charging you for the privelege?
  16. Not a problem with the 220 Sport - the gearing on that enables the car to be in 6th Gear under 60mph. Have to agree on the MPG as not being great but it is a heavy car and full of toys! On the idling.... its a feature. The revs are increased in cold weather to give more juice to the battery / heater (theres a few posts on this).
  17. 480 miles is pretty good for this car IMO. I use the tripometer on my last tank, probably 30 / 70 motorway then round town and I reckon I am about to get 400 miles ish.... The MPG tank average is at 30mpg.
  18. Just about to order myself an Iphone 4. I have the MM option (2006 car so Gen 5 iirc). Does the phone bluetooth sync to the car kit ok? I understand that there may be problems copying contacts via bluetooth but as I dont do this often I am happy to use another phone. Also, my next step may very well be getting a dock station that interfaces into the MM system allowing me to play music. At present I use my IPOD into the headphone input in the armrest, works well enough abut like the idea of choosing the music through the screen. Any ideas on whats generally the best, plus dont want to invalidate my lexus warranty as I have had MM (sat nav) issues before and would have been bloody expensive! Thanks in advance!
  19. MPG is a hot topic on this forum with mixed feedback with the 220D. Motorway journeys for me give around 38-40MPG at around 70 - 75 MPH although the gearing on the sport means at that speed revs are higher so less economical. I can drive in 6th on A roads at 50+ MPH and then you can squeeze up high 40's MPG but to be honest keeping it high is a chore and not very enjoyable! I drive as I want and tend to give it a bit here and there and get around 32MPG mixed which I agree is poor but I enjoy the car and the gearing setup on the sport IMO makes the drive better. There are some owners on here who confirm much better MPG and there are various cases of engine rebuilds due to oil loss, head gaskets etc. The EGR valve can affect your MPG if dirty but mine had a new one last month without any real increase in MPG. My 60K service was done 9,000 miles ago and I do not have any oil warning lights - havent checked manually though, maybe I should
  20. Is there a reason why this is 250 specific only? Would have thought the braking system would be the same on the 220's?
  21. After I had both ballasts done under ext. warranty I still had flickering problems with the philips D4S bulbs I got on ebay. Lexus stoke charged me around £230 to replace one, whilst ir did fix the flicker it was a different colour to the ebay ones. I therefore had to change the other back to the original so they matched (a bit better anyway). I am reluctant to spend another £200+ on the other bulb to fix the colour or any flicker! One thing I did find is that out of warranty, Lexus do offer an "onni fit" HID bulb at a fraction of the cost. Lexus Stoke said it didnt show up on the system automatically but they did find it (at £60 ish for the part iirc). I will wait and see how long my other bulb lasts before investigating. You do make a valid point, speaking to other garages, the HID Xenon bulbs rarely go and I reckon its down to another fault, ballasts, or something else but either way they should be under a better warranty.
  22. Hi, Spoke to Norwich Lexus as my near side flickering - I had the off-side done as per my previous posts and paid over £200 so was keen to save money. They confirmed they sell the bulb @ £68.90 + VAT - the reason for the big price drop is that this isnt the OEM bulb that is installed at manufacture or under warranty (which is the Philips D4S), this is an omni bulb. Now I dont particularly care, however, I am concerned that it wont match the new Philips one I have just had - any comments?
  23. I had the same issue, turned out to be the EGR valve. Also had the extended warranty, first they said that EGR valve was covered but CAT wasnt, then the EGR valve wasnt covered but as it was replaced less than 12 months ago (clearly a common fault!) they did it but indicated that the CAT wasnt covered and if it was damaged they would need to raise a case with Lexus GB - apparently the case's are quote successfully with a lot of owners getting everything for nothing. The Lexus garage did suggest that the EGR valve was moving to an extended cover from Lexus due to the many many failures.
  24. Yes, the gear ratios are different. I think this has a negative effect on the motorway MPG but IMO but I can put it in 6th at around 60mph, which means I get better MPG on A roads rather than motorways.
  25. Welcome to the club - nice to have another Stokie on board :P
