  1. I have just changed from BMW -> Lexus. I had a BMW320 SE Coupe. Had it for 2 years from new. Now had the 220d Sport MM for a week and am happy. The BMW round town was much more of a drivers car, responsive, didnt need to wait for the power etc. however, a lot of my time is on the motorway. Here i prefer the Lexus despite the MPG being better on my petrol BMW (around 40MPG on a run)! The BMW SE spec had some nice extras and it was a lovely car to look at, but again, love the sport wheels and look of the lexus. Interior blew the BMW out of the water IMHO (didnt have iDrive or Sat Nav on mine). Had a intermittent re-occuring mis-fire and lack of power on the BMW. Was in for about 8 days in total and never resolved, they blamed the software but said there wasnt an update yet, nor would there be in the short term. I also never got a courtesy car unless I booked in two weeks in advance (they only had 3 courtesy cars and it was a large BMW garage). All other elements of service etc were fine, providing I got a lift. I guess I will be able to offer a full comparison after owning the Lexus for 2 years!
  2. The system is set to fresh air on mine. Clicking off AC takes auto off. Not tried it on recirculate. Happy to leave it on all the time was curious. Not tested any MPG gains from having it off but me trying to claw back MPG on this diesel is another issue!
  3. ^ LOL - just noticed your only there for half a day so probably limited to what you can do on my listy, but something to think about.
  4. I have been to dubai 7 times in the last 5 years and it changes everytime - love the place. Helps that I have friends living and working over there so they tend to sort everything out but here are some recommendations: Wild Wadi's - brill water park as everyone else suggests. There is also a cool water park (Atlantis) as part of the Atlantis hotel on the Palm Jumeriah The Burj Dubai, massive massive sky scraper - think there is a bar near the top Plenty of malls - Mall of the Emirates and Dubai Mall to name two - the latter IIRC has a massive massive fish tank - give it a google its insane! Arabian Nights do a really good desert safari, dune racing, then evening of entertainment (took several friends on them and they really enjoyed it) Further afield we did a sky dive (at a fraction of the price) and went shooting in the desert (need transport tho). In the day you can normally use your hotels beach complex's, or pay a surcharge to use another hotels facilities. I remember the first time I went there was a public beach where we hired jet ski's and flew along the side of the Burj Al-Arab - some nice photo ops. There are hundreds of bars / hotels with new ones opening all the time. Some of the best drinking sessions can held in hotel "brunches" where you get all you can eat / drink for a one off price - very popular with the english locals. Dubai Marina is really good and has a fantastic Irish bar on the complex but at the old town end of Dubai. I tended to favour the drinking and entertainment, however, There are market areas if you are interested called Souk - gold souk is great for cheap gold / jewellry. Everyone is really friendly, locals and English - no one dares misbehave! The service is amazing!
  5. My first lexus! Just wondering, on Auto on the climate is AC always on regardless? Missus car has auto climate (renault) only puts AC on when it cant cool the air using outside air, hence, in winter it doesnt use it. Notice with mine that as soon as you click auto, AC goes on. Click AC off and it goes to manual. Looking at other options of trying to improve MPG but wondered about this!!!
  6. If you do go for two bridgestone's let me know if there are more available at a good offer. I need 2 x 255, 40, 18s for the rear. Been looking at dunlop sport maxx as everyone seems to favour, although a lot can depend on price!
  7. I have just had a 220d sport, happy with the wheels etc but would definately fancy one of the spoiler (OEM). Let me know if you come across a good deal. Saw the boot lip ones from Ebay (thailand) - super cheap but as you can imagine I have reservations!
  8. Been happy with the car so far! Had it now for 5 days. One thing I have noticed is when reversing or driving forward with full lock there is a loud clunk / knocking (repeatedly as I move slowly). Did the usual search around here and some people have previously mentioned that the front wheel stepping out. Not sure if you would get a repeating clunk with this and if this is an accepted "feature!" Other views suggest ball joints? I have informed the garage (independent) as there is a 3 mth Warranty. They have a contact at lexus apparently and he seemed to think there was a recall on the steering rack (and he mentioned rear brakes). Does this sound right? If so, would you car automatically come up on a recall. I called Lexus prior to getting the car and they said there was nothing outstanding showing against the registration. The garage also indicated that the recalls should all be done free even if out of warranty?
  9. Is there any gasket or anything that needs to be replaced on the 220d during this process? I did a clean on the egr valve on the missus's car (renault) and it worked wonders. Just picked up my new (ish) Lexus 220d and as it has done 60K would be tempted to try this EGR clean as well.

  11. One down, was scared of breaking the key but actually prised apart relatively easily, swapped batteries over to prove the other key, just need to get a battery now (flea bay me thinks)
  12. At last, picked it up today! Very happy with the drive back. A few observations / minor issues: Had a DVD data disk read error - noticed this when I first looked at vehicle. Garage now said that it was a copied DVD and he is ordering and sending me an orginal. Set the climate to auto but window started to steam up slowly - had to set manual to med point air flow to window / feet. Auto set it at Low, AC on, feet only everytime. Had a bit of bother pairing my BT phone, but cleared all personal settings and that appeared to do the trick (not sure if I cleared anything I shouldnt have - the many many maintenance icons are now all reset (they were greyed out before). Reset MPG at garage, drove home from Sheffield town centre / M1 / A50 and tank average is 34 MPG - hmmm. The miles before running out of diesel was 370 after filling up with 60 quids worth - not sure if this will adjust - after driving home it read 310 despite nearly being full! Pulled into drive with full lock and notice a clunking - quick search on here suggests that could be normal - hmmm. will mention to garage! The tickover seems to go from normal (~900 RPM) to 1200RPM where it seems to stay - could this be to charge the battery?!? Only one of the keys appears to work - I asked if he had checked them both. Tried to locate the battery but wasnt obvious! Will have a search around unless someone wants to give me a clue! Apart from that, car looks beautiful, they made a fab job of refurbing the 18's, any body panel scuffs have been polished out, sound system is immense and very happy with the gearing etc.
  13. Hi, what were the probs reported by Lexus? Did you suspect anything or just got it diag'd by Lexus to be on the safe side. Reason I ask is I am picking up a 220d sport (w/ multimedia) tomorrow. 58K on the clock from independent garage. They have said 3 month warranty and said that they will make sure the car is ok. Not sure whether I should get it booked into Lexus for a check-out or just see how I get along with it. The independent garage may kick up a fuss if it's just Lexus saying diag's say this...... Did they charge you to check it out? I live near Lexus Stoke and got them to check for any recalls (none outstanding) - they were very helpful.
  14. Well I am still waiting for the car! Hoped to get it Sun but the garage kept waiting for the wheels to be refurbed, apparently quite degraded and taken sometime to repair. Anyhowz, the car should have come back today for me to collect tomorrow! As said previous, it does come with 3 month (independent) warranty direct from the garage (he sells a lot of lexux's so hoping he know the probs and is genuine) - he has said he will ensure the car is spot on. After that, going to look for an extended warranty - seen warranty direct but would prefer Lexus for extending, not sure tho if it has to run straight after the inital manu warranty finishes? I am conscious about all the reads about 5th injector etc - lexus reckon there's no outstanding recalls on my car, it has all service history at lexus edinburgh and I would hope that after 3 yrs and 6 mths most known issues should have occurred and gone back to be resolved, hmmm ?!? Have been interested in the reads about the EGR valve too - Missus's car is a megane DCi 120 (actually not too bad to drive and has all the options!) - this had an engine management failure and "limp" mode about 2 months ago! Did a bit of reading and cleaned the EGR valve and now all good! Praise to the owners clubs!!!! Mick.
  15. Hi Darren, I am also new to the site and the lexus. Not even picked mine up yet. I have looked around for the best place for the map updates and most recommend here http://www.lexus-mapupdates.eu/ to purchase new map updates.
  16. Hi, no its from an independent garage. They shift around 4 lexus's a month. Whats the best way of checking the injectors? I checked with Lexus and they have no recalls or outstanding issues against the car. Is it something that the ind garage can check or is it into Lexus. The garage have said that they give a 3 mth warranty and will ensure that the car is right - I know thats an easy statement to make!
  17. I paid £10,995. I could have got ~£300 off this price but when the garage remembered I had asked them for the wheels to be refurbed they struggled to come down any further. I was happy with the price so didnt push, they were doing a few bits on the car for me. They had reduced the price from £11,500 in the last week or so.
  18. Thanks for the response. 1) Hmmmm. Quite useful to be able to modify route etc on the move. May have to upgrade. Seen the link to lexusmapupdates. 2) Cool! 3) Ah right, when i test drove the car I obviously noted the reverse cam but not the front. I was reversing out of a tight space (cars either side) so maybe I should have had a warning. I assume its just an audible beep? 4) Was £240 from a Lexus garage? If so, which one. I am sure Lexus Stoke would honour a price match :winky:
  19. Hi to all, Well put my deposit down on my first Lexus on Monday. Cadoxton Grey 2006 220d Sport w/ Multimedia 58K Will be picking it up in a week - they are refurbing the alloys, polishing some scuffs out, MOT, checking the Sat Nav due to a DVD data error plus some usual pre-sales checks etc. Couple of questions: - The SatNav, is it worth the upgrade from what I assume will be the 2006 original to 2009? If its only minor map changes then i may leave it and see. If it makes changes to the overall media system it may be worth considering. - Will the media system in the 2006 play DVDs? - Are front parking sensors standard? Some sites suggest yes, the garage said it dont have em. - It has full Lexus SH but due one at 60K which i believe is a biggy. A quick call to my local Lexus (Stoke) and negotiated down to £319 - is this reasonable or should I continue trying elsewhere? If there are any other "gotchas" then please let me know, any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance, Mick.
