  1. I found that the Pure Highway DAB gadget works quite well - see Amazon. I think I only paid about £40 but that was some time ago.
  2. Whilst on the subject of parking sensors - when I bought my Mk 4 some years back it had a good working rear parking sensor. A year or so on I went through a flood and the sensor ceased working. The mystery is that there are no visible signs of the sensor - no little holes in the rear bumper and an auto electrician I took the car to did not seem to believe me (although the little 'loudspeaker' is visible by the rear shelf) He offered to remove the rear bumper at huge expense so I gave up and over recent years have become accustomed to parking without a sensor. Has anyone heard of an invisible sensor ?
  3. Many thanks Mark for your help (as always). I think it looks like a bridge too far for this old'un so I shall probably leave it to the next owner unless I get a sudden spurt of energy.
  4. The top strip, showing time and temperatures, which normally illuminates on ignition is no longer lighting up on my LS400 Mk.4 Is there a separate fuse for this or if it is a loose wire how would I get to ? Any advice gratefully received.
  5. Thank you guys for all the advice (as always). I have obtained a new blank - no Lexus logo - and will go to the key cutter today.
  6. Advice needed please. As I started my Mk 4 this morning the key broke in half !! The metal shaft plus a fraction of the remaining plastic enabled me to start the car. I was also able to use the remote bit to lock the car at work. What is the best (cheapest) route to getting a new key ?
  7. That's strange Titch. I have disconnected and reconnected the battery on my Mk 4 many times and it has started straight away without the need to wait 6 minutes.
  8. Many thanks Ambermarine and Steve for your replies. Yes - all the other lights are working so when I have time I will check for a break in the wire.
  9. The interior dome(?) light in my LS400 Mk4 has stopped working when unlocking with the remote and when opening the front doors. The bulb is OK as it works when shifting the dome switch to left or right. Any help would be gratefully received.
  10. As Malcolm suggests.... it is probaly a brake light bulb. It was with mine. Get someone to have a look.
  11. I Googled 'The speedo on my Lexus LS400 is not working' and the USA forum told me to give a thump on top of the dashboard whist driving. Gave it a thump and it has been working ever since. Evidently the needle sticks to the resting pin, particularly in hot weather.
  12. Many thanks Ambermarine. I have the workshop manual on CD and wonder if anyone could tell me what page reference on the manual refers to the speedo and its connections.
  13. The speedo on my LS400 Mk4 has stopped working. I think it might be the hot weather (?) A couple of years ago the rev counter stopped and Steve said 'give it a thump' which I did and it started working again and has not failed to this day. I have given the speedo a 'thump' but this has not worked. Maybe I have not 'thumped' hard enough!!. Any ideas ?
  14. Thanks for your comments. The belt had been making a squeak - squeak noise for a couple of weeks. The tensioner cost £88 and the belt £22. The rest was labour. (he called it an 'auxilliary' belt rather than a snake or serpentine belt). I must say that he is usually very reasonable with his charges.
  15. I have had a problem with the snake belt tensioner on my LS400 Mk 4. Not very engine savvy but I believe it had seized (?) It has been replaced by my local indie for £300. Does that sound about right and is it a fairly common fault ? Could it have caused any further problems for the future ?
  16. Thanks guys. Yesterday afternoon I used a length of telephone cable and it went down about a metre and a half on each of the four tubes. Let's hope that has dealt with the problem.
  17. Thank you all for your responses. Always helpful and much appreciated. What a great club. I will follow your suggestions when I have a moment at the weekend.
  18. There is suddenly a large amount of water in the passenger side rear foot well (it has literally become a well !!) in my LS400 ('99) I had parked at a 45 degree camber (right to left not fore and aft) in a hotel car park and I noticed the water the next day. Any thoughts as to where this has come from ? The boot interior is dry but as yet I have not investigated the spare wheel area. If it is the spare wheel well are there drainage holes that might have become blocked ? Any ideas gratefully received.
  19. You seem to be levering out the wrong part. With a thin blade (penknife) lever out the translucent dome light cover. Start at the top and use a fair amount of force. It will not damage the plastic if you are careful. I have done it quite a few times* without causing damage. When replacing fit the bottom two lugs into place and then give it a thump to get the top two lugs in place. * I think I am using poor quality bulbs !!!!
  20. On my Mk 4 the indicators will flash on lock and unlock. If you press longer on locking you get a double flash. Press longer still and you get a beep.
  21. Many thanks Cruisermark and Cotswold Pete. I had checked the fluid reservoir and it looked OK but on further inspection (after your advice) the dip stick is dry. I will buy some fluid and see if it corrects the problem.
  22. I am getting a 'groaning' noise on left and right steering lock when starting off in the morning in my Mk 4 LS400. This seems to stop when the engine warms up. Could it be to do with one of the belts being loose ? Or any other suggestions.
  23. Many thanks Malc and Steve for your input (as always !!) A thump (and not a very hard one) on top of the dashboard brought the rev counter back to life immediately.
  24. I have just noticed that the Rev Counter on my '99 LS400 is not working. I tend not to look at it very often so it might have packed up some time ago. Any thoughts on how to get it going again and should I be concerned that it is not working ? A couple of weeks ago I disconnected the battery - could that be a reason ? Grateful in advance for your input.
  25. Many thanks Bren. Good to know about the radio code. I have a Battery booster pack (always fully charged) so I was thinking of just disconnecting the negative (correct ?) and reconnecting on my return and using the booster pack. Does that make sense ?
