  1. Hi IS250 newbie, If you car doesn't respond when you try to open it, I would suggest you to change the batteries ASAP. My car had the same issue and waited for the low battery error to come on display. Eventually it did come up, but only when the battery was almost flat, and the very next day after the error came up on screen, I was unable to open the car with the remote at all. With regards to the BG44k, I bought the service pack and used the engine flush (BG109) and oil additive (BG MOA) and already feel the car much responsive an quieter. I have just filled up the fuel tank and added the BG44K, I do mostly town driving and very short journeys. I've researched on the internet the best way of using it, and although there a few conflicting suggestions, the general consensus seems to be to use it on short journeys and try to keep it on the fuel tank as long as possible.
  2. Dear members, First of all, thank you for your helpful posts. Just dropped the Lexus for service last week to an independent garage, and the following has been done: 1. Changed oil (Castrol Edge 5w30) and OEM filter (£12 from Lexus shop). Also ordered a BG service pack from ebay, heard good things about it. Mechanic flushed the engine with the BG 109, and added the BG MOA with the new oil. I now feel the car much smoother, responsive and much more quieter. 2. All 4 sliding pins greased, front offside caliper was stuck, mechaninc managed to fix it, 2 rear pads completely gone. Replaced them with blueprint. Clunking noise now gone, the car brakes much better and it feels more balanced. 3. VSC Check on - Mechanic tried to read any faults on the ECU, no faults found. Since service, light has not come up either. Fingers crossed it stays that way. Probably needed the brakes fixing. As someone mentioned above and quite rightly, this is the SE model so it doesn't come with the OEM HID lights, I was looking for an aftermarket upgrade but only if it meant improving on night driving vision. I've seen a couple of IS's with an aftermarket kit and not very satisfied. I was trying to find something very close to OEM. Will keep on searching. Thanks
  3. Hello folks, After a long search for an IS250, finally purchased a 2006 IS250 SE Auto MM with 80,000 miles on the clock. First impressions, WOW! What an upgrade! For a 2006 model, it was certainly a model ahead of its time. After a few weeks of ownership, I have the following comments / questions: - My IS200 had a clunking noise when braking at low speeds which was really annoying and would turn a few heads. Well, it seems that the IS250 has exactly the same issue. I've read through the other threads and it seems that the caliper pins need to be greased. Will get my mechanic at it. - VCS CHECK / ABS / Brake light on - Well, I get this when I'm using my brakes a lot, especially when parking or city driving in traffic lights. It doesn't affect the driving, but I'm still worried. It disappears after switching on / off the engine and it only happened twice so far - Anyone who experienced it and solved it? - LIGHTS - my Lexus IS200 was upgraded with an aftermarket HID kit, while the IS250 comes with the normal halogen lights. I feel that illumination is generally poor, Any ideas in how to improve or give a brighter and "whiter" look? Anyone installed HID kits to theirs? Haven't seen any on the road with non OEM fitted and don't mine to look tacky either. - ENGINE NOISE - It sounds almost like a diesel! The IS200 was much more quieter, and was expecting the IS250 to be the same. My mechanic assured me that it's normal due to the injectors being noisy. Also heard another IS250 and it sounded about the same. Apart from the above, I'm absolutely loving it. The sound system is amazing, the car is really comfortable and I love its gadgets. The driving seat is really a good place to be and feels very premium.
  4. Hello everyone, First of all, thank you is200 Newbie and Bingo123 for your contributions. Went to see the car in question today. The dealer continues to dismiss the mileage discrepancy saying that it must be due to human error. Requested the service book, and he replied that "it should be in the post, will be here sometime next week". Upon inspecting car, noticed that the back seat is not attached and its coming apart and is completely loose (never seen anything like it!). Well, that was enough for me, the dealer promised me to rectify the situation, but I walked away wasting half a days work and 100 miles fuel, so the search carries on. I've been searching for a while now, and apart from being rare to find in the spec that I want (silver or black SE-L MM spec or SE MM), some of them seem to be overpriced (over £7,000 for a 55 plate??) Wish me luck!
  5. Hello everyone, After over 4 years of happy motoring with my Lexus IS200, I've decided its time to let it go and upgrade to a Lexus IS 250. After seeing a few available on the internet, I've found a 2007 model with 44k on the clock in pretty good condition. My major worry is what I've found today on the VOSA MOT history log: 27/03/2010 mileage 18,841 miles PASS 28/05/2011 mileage 16,090 miles ( less 2,800 miles and 2 months over the expiry date?) PASS 10/04/2012 mileage 25,938 miles PASS 20/03/2013 mileage 27,993 miles PASS 17/05/2014 mileage 44,321 miles PASS Also, on the fuel type section, is recorded as DIESEL? Obviously it's a petrol. The trader says that it does happen with some vehicles, and it could be due to human error while typing the mileage. As long as the HPI clear doesn't flag as mileage incorrect, it should be all genuine. What would you do in this situation, would you ignore it and still buy the car, or walk away from it? Thanks in advance for your help
  6. I get what you are saying, but it is very strange, as I've been driving it for 2.5 years and never experienced it before. It feels that its giving way too much feedback through the steering.
  7. Lexus is200 Auto I get 20mpg driving to work which is 1.5 miles and 10 traffic lights away moslty with the engine cold! On motorway with cruise control on 75mph the maximum i got was around 29mpg. Not the most economical car in the world, but puts a smile in your face, who gives a damn ??
  8. I'm a very proud owner of a IS200, and every often I get compliments from friends or some odd member of the public about how good it looks even though is a 12 year old car. Well, up until winter kicks in! The amount of white smoke that the exhaust generates is unbelievable while stood at traffic lights! I could even see it coming all the way to my drivers side window!! What about the fellow members? Do you also experience the same issue?
  9. Sorry for the late reply. My car is due for servicing sometime in Jan / Feb and I will ask my mechanic to look into that if its straight forward. If he gets it sorted, I will ask him how its done and will update you on this.
  10. Hi everyone! Here I am once again, for some advise from fellow members. I've replaced the four tyres on my Lexus a few weeks ago, and since then I've noticed that when I'm driving, the steering has become very loose as if I can feel every single bump and pothole on the road. Also, when I'm driving at 30 or 40mph I feel that the steering becomes very light. I used to love driving it around, but now for some reason it doesnt feel safe and it drives rubbish. I have taken it to my mechanic, he had a good look round and everything is normal, apart from a very slight leak on one of the front shock absorbers, which according to him doesnt seriously affect the driving. He suggested that I should try and get the tracking sorted, but I would like to hear from anyone who may have experienced a similar issue before I start messing around with it. Your suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you very much.
  11. Having the same problem mate. Initially they would come on with the tapping, now they've gone completely.
  12. Dear All, Just a bit of advise, I currently have on my IS200 215/45/17, and all four tyres need replacing (ouch!). While shopping around, I came across someone who advised me to go for the 225/45/17 rather than the 215s as it will give more grip/better for the winter..etc..and it shouldnt affect the fuel consumption... Any toughts?
  13. Clunking noise when braking (absolute head turner!) and no armrest.
  14. Guys, Thanks for your replies. I've managed to replace the wiper blades and it is so damn easy  Thanks for the suggestion sjrainsford, I've already changed my location, Leicestershire!
  15. Dear All, Here I'm again to ask for your advise. I just bought a pair of Bosch flat wiper blades but I'm having a hard time removing my old ones. Has anyone had the same problem before? I've attached a few pics if it helps: Thanks in advance!
  16. Guys, I have owned a few cars before the Lexus, but never came across this before. The Lexus key come with a little black oval shape sensor (?), which according to the previous owner, needs to be attached to the key, otherwise the car won't start. Well, a few days ago my car wouldn't start and the red immobiliser light would flash, which gives me an indication that the car wasn't recognising the immobiliser. Does the black sensor need batteries or something done to it? (sorry if the question sounds silly) The sensor which I'm referring to is this: Thanks for your help!
  17. Guys, Sorry for the late reply (almost one year after!). Well, after checking the coolant level, I realised that I was running without any coolant at all. After topping up, I've noticed that coolant levels would drop every other week and I kept topping up, until the day when the car overheated! Diagnosis: New radiator and the problem solved. Now i'm dealing with a oil leak, suspected rock cover gasket, fingers crossed its not anything more serious. Cheers guys for your help!
  18. Had the same problem a few months ago, and it was a sticking brake caliper. It was the first time in my life that I was being overtaken by some angry truckdrivers!
  19. Dear All, I'm posting this topic to seek some advice from fellow IS owners. I own a 2000 Lexus IS200 automatic with 99k on the clock. Recently I've noticed that when I engage into reverse and the car starts moving backwards, there is a metallic noise as if something was trying to stop the car from moving (brakes?) It only lasts for a few seconds and then disappears. It started to become more regular and it only happens on the first few seconds of reversing. Does anyone has experienced the same problem in the past or might know the possible cause? Your comments will be highly appreciated. Thanks.
  20. Dear All My Lexus IS200 is due for a full service. I would be grateful if any of you know of any websites / retailers where I could get hold of Lexus genuine service parts. Also, has anyone heard of blueprint parts? Are they any good? Which oil grade will be recommended for the service? Its got 97,000 on the clock. Thanks!
  21. Thanks for your replies guys! I have opened the yellow cap and I could see a red liquid so I assumed that it was full. I was also looking for an indication somewhere of the coolant level, but couldn't see it.
  22. Hello All Just noticed a few days ago, when I start the car and whenever I accelerate, I hear a boiling water noise coming from behind the dashboard. I would like to hear from anyone who may had a similar experience in the past before I take it to the mechanics. Thanks!
  23. When I bought my Lexus, it came with some cheap bulbs with a slight tint of blue filled with some Xenon gas ( loads of rubbish...). Anyway, last week I got some 8000K fitted, and WOW! What a difference!! Initially, I had the tought of going for 6000K to look more OEM, but I'm actually quite happy with the 8000k as they are not so blueish as it may look. They are just white with a slight tint of blue.
  24. Thanks very much for your reply. Sorry if sounds silly, but if I re seal the units, will the condensation and "dusty look" disappear? For example, whenever I wash the car, for the first few minutes the headlights look very clean, then the dusty condensation look comes back...
  25. Hi everyone, My IS200 headlights have a substantial amount of condensation, and its not looking good at all! One of my friends suggest me to get a car detailer to restore them as it will be a cheaper option. What do you guys suggest? Do you know anyone who can do the job for me in Leicester? I appreciate your comments Thanks very much.
