  1. I find a big difference in 250 and 220d. With 220d you feel the turbo rush. With 250, I just can't get myself to push it. It is just so smooth and nice, I don't want to ruin that nice feel by pushing it. My is220d never gave me more than 33. The IS250 is going me around 30 average mixed driving. The reason I switched was that the my 220d was at 126k miles. And lexus didnt cover the head gasket issue after 110k so I was getting a bit nervous. I just switched it with a high mileage 250 AUTO at 131K miles. So far so good but now I read there is a carbon build up issue on the 250 that can be quite as expensive to fix out of warranty
  2. I just switched from IS220d to IS250. I am with AXA/Swiftcover. For me it was only £12 dearer for IS250
  3. I seem to remember that it was advertised with acoustic dampening properties, something to do with an "ear" mark on the glass, but I don't seem to have that on both my cars. Also , in a previous post on this forum, some one had mentioned that you need to get the two plastic trim parts on the lower-outside, or ask the installer to bring with him, because they usually get damaged during removal/install, or something like that.
  4. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/75371-folding-mirrors/ works for me
  5. It was a fleet car auction, my guess is it was not an import and Lexus must have had some information about it but I only asked about service history and they said I need to talk to the dealer where it was serviced. I asked if they could tell me which dealer it was and they did not know. I then called my local lexus dealer (Leeds) and asked if they could get me some data of that car but they came back and said as it was not serviced there so they can't help and I need to call the dealer where it was serviced at. Anyway, I do have a different car now, but it would have been useful information at that time. I am going to call lexus after holidays to check if they can tell me service history of my current car (which is partial history in the book but I know where it was serviced) and where it was serviced etc and if there are any recalls pending. Let see what they say.
  6. When we were looking to buy a Honda Civic for my wife, it had quite a bit of missing service history. I called Honda customer service who had all the record for that car and confirmed to exactly when the services were done, which honda dealer did them and if any repairs were done. Now when looking for IS250s I saw one with missing history book at an auction so I called Lexus to see if they could tell me any info about that car. They completely denied they kept any information about the car and told me that only the dealer who serviced the car would keep that record locally. As I didn't know who that dealer was, I wouldn't be able to find that info. What if the car was serviced at different dealers every year. My question is why would lexus not locally hod that information, when that can be so useful for a lot of reasosn
  7. Hi As IS250 is my first auto car I have a few very simple question, I hope someone can help me with 1. I know that brake needs to be depressed and car fully stationary to move the stick from P to R/N/D, but if car is stationary in N do I have to press the break to move it to R or D ? 2. Do I need car to be stationary and brake pressed to move stick from D to S or S to D? 3. In light traffic jam or stopped on signal from say 20- 30 sec, can I just have foot on the brake when car is in D, or do I have to shift to N or P for small stops as well? Apologies for stupid questions
  8. yes, in the start when engine is cold it will idle faster, later become OK. also if you turn off air-con/heater/fan etc it may come down, but it is normal AFAIK
  9. I had my Is220d at 123k and loved it to bits, but I exchanged it for an IS250 for £750 on top of it. The IS250 is 132k miles. When I part exchanged my IS220d, the dealer told me he was listening in for the dual mass flywheel when pressing clutch as they are known to go on these cars and cost £800 to fix. He said there was a bit of sound, but not enough to be worried about. I never got good mpg from my IS220d, somewhere between 29 to 33 mpg average. I am getting the same from IS250. I have heard that IS250 should be more reliable. Will see how things go. There is an issue with carbon build up in the engine of the IS250. As mine has quite a few miles on it I think I might be hit with the problem sooner or later. Considering the cars I have had in the past and some of the cars my friends have, these cars are very reliable. Problem is that when something goes wrong, it cost and arm and a leg to fix it.
  10. you can buy any of the cheap ODBII readers from amazon or ebay. If you want convenience, you can buy one of the bluetooth ones and leave it plugged in the ODBII socket , so if you need to read codes you can use your smartphone to connect to it. There are some special codes that the standard code readers cannot read. For example I had the Airbag light and standard ODBII reader was unable to read the code for this. In that situation you need what is called a mini-vci cable that you have to use with a PC/Laptop. It was about £25 a couple of years ago from ebay Taiwan and comes with software (same one toyota lexus dealers use). The software only runs on windows XP (or at least that's the one I got).
  11. Hi guys, it might be the dual-flywheel going that is wear and tear problem in these cars
  12. I deleted all these codes and the problem hasn't come back. I know I need to change the battery at some point very soon. Now need to get air-con fixed for summers .
  13. thanks, it was just me being silly blaming the tech in anger. I am sure its just a consumable sensor like everything and can fail certainly after 130K miles. The battery was changed in 2010 to a lead acid halfords battery. The warranty has run out on it 5 months ago. I'll get it tested first as it may have caused the other error codes.
  14. Hi All As some of you may be aware I just bought a high mileage IS250 from a non-lexus dealer. Well just about 600 miles of fantastic driving, the check VSC lights came on. Thankfully I still had my odb/techstream code reader cable. I connected it to the car and read the codes out Here is the full list of codes 1. Engine ECU - P0503 2. Cruise Control ECU- P0503 3. ABS/VSC/TRAC ECU- C0215,C1223, C1241 So the Engine and Cruise control ECU are reporting "Vehicle Speed Sensor 'A' Intermittent " And the ABS ECU is reporting the following three 1.Left Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Signal Malfunction 2. Malfuntion In ABS Control System 3. C1241 Toyota - Low Battery Positive Voltage I just had my rear pads and tyres changed. May be the technician has misaligned or broken the ABS sensor on the left rear wheel, as it looks like he spent a long time on that one for some reason. Any ideas what this could be? cheers
  15. now that I am back in town/highway driving, mixed, the average has actually come down to just under 30. I think this may be the norm. On the motor way , I achieved 43.4 in granny driving mode. I have taken my car to a local garage to have it checked over as I was feeling a bit nervous as it was a high mileage car with limited service history. They say car is absolutely fine and have nothing to worry about. Only needed rear brake pads changing (was advisory on last MOT as well). Loving driving it a lot. Just so much better than IS220d. No faffing about with gears :)
  16. Drove 200 miles from Slough to Leeds at 43.4 MPG door to door, doing 70mph most of the way, much better than the IS220d ever gave me.Mine was one of those with lower MPGs we see here on the forum all the time. Drive was very smooth, didn't rev the engine much at all, just wanted to see what was the best I could achieve economy wise and very please indeed. The colour of the car is called bronze in the MOT cert but when I looked up the colour code its called misitic gold metalic and is more common on larger cars like the LS. One thing that is different and I don't know why is that the rear break light in the middle of the rear screen glass is clear glass but in the previous car it was red. It still glows red but the when you look it its its like crystal coloured could either one of them be after market?
  17. i think it can also be used to heat up the lower part of the front screen so front screen defrosts quicker when air blows over this heated screen area
  18. Hi all I just changed my IS220d SE Red (56 plate) at 123K miles to an IS250 Auto SE bronze (56 plate) at 131 K miles A bit nervous about buying the high mileage petrol but the rides really nice and just paid £750 for the change over I think was OK deal During my time with IS220d it only had two problems. A rear shock when that I got changed (used part) for £70 and an injector seal leaked , the seal was £5 but labour charge was £280 Thats all for 3.5 years ownership.
  19. whom so ever buys this can you let me have a drive as finders fee http://www.autostylecars.co.uk/used-cars/lexus-lx-wembley-201309309029111
  20. Hi all Where can I find a GS450h service schedule? Contemplating buying one but need to check before hand if the expensive/major services have been done or not? Thanks
  21. Hi The passenger windows not working happens when your car's ecu reset (usually due to no battery or very low battery). To get them working again, just bring down the windows individually using their own switch and then all the way up again. If you are having electric problems, it may be due to bad earth/ground joint. I have read that they can rust and just need to be cleaned and tightened up again.
