  1. i think about 5 years in, most car manufacturers release their design to 3rd party manufacturers. at that point, if 3rd party manufacturers want to make those (if they see profit in making those parts) then you may have a chance. With Lexus the toyota share parts would be cheaper in 5 years, but lexus specific parts , i dont think that many manufacturers want to make them due to low volumes
  2. have you plugged in the connector into the EGR? I forgot to do that once and had the VSC check light
  3. I'd stick to Honda Accord diesel in EX trim , I hear it's the best Japanese diesel out there.
  4. one of the best things you can do, if you have time, is to get into car detailing. Load of advice at http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/ I used to clean, wash and polish my car myself a lot. You can save a fortune, get a bit of exercise and the satisfaction at looking back at a beautifully detailed car is worth it.
  5. Try dpf foam cleaner from Wurth. Look it up on Google. It is injected directly into dpf from temperature sensor hole. I have read it's good but not tried it myself
  6. https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=56579C4329457349!80916&authkey=!ABuOXifGwZJQo0I&ithint=file%2c.iso Better invest in a toyota VCI cable from ebay to figure out exactly what airbag code is stored in the airbag ECU system
  7. Hi OK here is step by step guide 1, Remove the two metal clips holding the rubber hoses in place 2. Loosen the rubber hoses off the plastic pipes on the sensor 3. Blow in to first pipe using mouth. If it looks blocked then blow air into it, use a fast pressure blower if possible. As it is attached to the metal pipe, you dont need to blow into metal pipe seperately 4. Do the same in other pipe 5. If you blow into both of them using mouth and both are open (not blocked) then this was not a blocked pipe problem for you. 6. Do not blow into/towards the sensor, blow only towards the DPF filter
  8. Its easy, just take the rubber hoses off and blow high pressure air into it. use a nozzle adapter
  9. I had the same problem with mine. There are two things that can be happening IMHO 1. The differential pressure sensor pipe is blocked. This happened to a toyota 2.2d owner and he got one of the tyre shops to blow air into the differential pressure pipes to open it. Because of this problem the car thought that DPF filter was always dirty and kept trying to clean it. The differential pressure sensor can be found inside the hood just behind the engine. Its bolted to the rear wall and two rubber pipes lead from it to the front and back of the dpf filter. The difference in pressure between the front and back of the dpf filter tells the ECU how badly blocked it is. 2. Or your dpf filter as actually partially blocked. They do get blocked to the point of no return, where no amount of dpf cleaning by fifth injector help. IN that case, try wyns dpf filter cleaner additive a few times and see if this help. In worst case you may be looking for a new dpf filter. For me, I just lived with this problem until I could sell the car. Was not a problem for me but I did feel bad for all the padistrians and cyclists outside.
  10. denso wipers fit my is250, and very nice, would they fit ls400? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161166354966?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
  11. I think best it to have it on Auto and set the temp, put it up to high and when the car is normal temp ( temp needle middle of the scale) it should be blowing warm air out. If not you may have a problem.
  12. the very latest one, if you can find it somewhere, now works on windows 7 32bit. It still does not work on win 7 64 bit. Also I am unsure if the miini-vci cable drives are win 7 compatible. I got it working under windows 7 professional , as win 7 pro comes with windows XP mode virtual machine. Now a days I use an old dell laptop that has win XP in it.
  13. Had a K&N filter on my 220d and it replaced an after market cheapo filter. I saw very little difference if any in mpg and performance. Sound was a bit louder, but just a bit.
  14. yeah is250 has carbon build-up on inlet valves, that can't be cleaned by fuel additives and terraclean . Needs cleaning by seafoam or actually getting in there and cleaning using intake cleaner.
  15. you need a toyota/lexus specific cable called "toyota mini-vci" about £25 from ebay hongkong
  16. I think CAN bus is the nervous system of the car (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAN_bus)%C2'> IS250 will have a lot of CAN bus infrastructure, but may be using conventional method for turning lights on and off rather than using the bus.
  17. I think, as these cars age, it it becomes easier to get them repaired using parts from breakers and back street garages. That's what I do :)
  18. if you are looking for is220d it can be a reliable car. It worked for me till 123K miles, there are several on autotrader that have done much more than that. All you have to do is make sure you drive enough for it to get warm eough. My drive to work is 15 miles one way and seemingly it was enough for it to last that long. If you can, try to get 250 Auto. But 220d is not a bad car overall.
