  1. Lexus Sheffield are putting brand new ones in mine free of charge because of the niggles I have had with my car since I bought it. They are even picking my car up from work to sort out a couple of things and giving me a courtesy car. Nice one Lexus Sheffield ! :D
  2. This is a great help. Thanks lads - I need a new sat nav CD then ! Dipstick - how the hell are you getting 28mpg - 31mpg ?????? I struggle to get average 24mpg and most of my journeys are to and from work as follows.... 1.5 miles "A" road to motorway. 10 miles motorway M60 to M56. 3 miles on A road into small town. 1 mile of town driving. Out of town and through a village. 2 more miles A road into work. 17 miles total. 10 on motorway. Sensible driving. I'm baffled. :duh: Footnote : tyre pressures on my 182 wheels are 33psi all round.
  3. Press "MENU" on the button on the dash panel next to the screen and a series of buttons appear on the screen. When the vehicle is on the move the "TRIP" button greys out (along with about six other buttons". When the vehicle is stopped the buttons light up again.
  4. Peak time at a Lexus dealer Loz ? What's that ? Everytime I've been to one I've been the only one there ! I've been in noisier libraries.
  5. I've just taken the badly behaved beast to Lexus Stockport to get the brake warning light looked at and the gear numbers not lighting up sorted. Brakes were sorted in half an hour. They put new ball joints at the front, four new brakes and topped up brake fluid. No problems there then. :) Also they said the suspension etc was normal - hard ride is as expected on the Sport. Get this though.... They came back to me and said that the gear numbers next to the gearstick are not supposed to light up. I replied that you folks and two mates at work say they light up. "Well it must be just the Sport then that doesn't light up - check the dash instead for gear changes". I thought that was a bit strange but I accepted it and left happy enough. Then a funny thing happened later on in the evening. I was at the lights and moved the gearstick from park to drive and the gear numbers lit up ! Then they went off again and back on a couple of times. So they do light up but I'm sure when I ring them to tell them they light up they'll just think I'm tripping on something powdery. Do you think the dealer is just lazy and didn't want to do it ?
  6. Hey up dipstick ! (sounds like something Del Boy would say ) The "trip" greying out is caused my a movement sensor not something on the CD - unless the software on the CD controls whether to turn it on or not. Anyway it's totally pants. It's for safety Lexus say but it still lets you choose new points of interest on the map which is more button presses than clicking on "Trip". I wish Lexus would have put a "trip summary" button on the dash at the side of the navigation unit.
  7. Thanks for the help lads. I think the dealer in Sheffield need to pick it up and get everything right. They offered to do that last week when I mentioned the brake warning light and some of the things they should have put right in the first place. Then the service guy rang up and said it was the brakes bedding in so I told them I would take it to Stockport (my local dealer) to fix things. However I am being inconvenienced because they don't have a courtesy car until mid September. They said they'd have a quick look tomorrow (4pm - 5.30pm) but they are surely only going to fix the brakes bit and the gear lights. Perhaps Steve is right and it's just new car paranoia. It certainly looks fantastic.
  8. I now know how Seagram feels. The GS300 Sport is riding like a dog now. Every bump is greeted by a loud rattles (basically steadily getting worse by the day). Even on the motorway it's rattling. Not happy now. I may speak to the dealer and try to get a swap for an SE. The condition is mint but the ride is just too hard. Thing is I can take the hard ride but the car is just not handling them well at all. There's also still too many things that wrong that the dealer didn't look at and a few extra that I didn't pick up on. The loud rattle from behind the seat, no lights on the gearstick, brake warning light keeps coming on etc etc. I've got a feeling I bought the wrong car. How sympathetic would the dealer be if I asked to swap it for an SE or even an IS200. Do you think I'm talking crazy ? Help !
  9. I know I've asked a few sat nav questions recently but I want to know what version a 2000 W reg GS 300 sat nav CD should be. I took mine out to have a look because there seemed to be some roads/cities missing. It is version 2.1 98-99 data. I've heard some people say they have S reg cars with newer (v3+) versions. So why is my W reg got what looks like the original 1998 CD ? Any ideas ? Should I tell the dealer to get me a new one ?
  10. Nice one Colin ! The Jif didn't work but the nail polish remover did ! It not only removed the scuff marks (easily) it also made the plastic sparkling new ! Like you say you need to have a wet cloth handy to wipe it over straight away. The whole process works a treat ! :P
  11. Cheers JCC. Will the 37psi make the ride even harder ? What fuel economy do you get. I am struggling to get 24.5mpg on a run and driving it sensibly. In fact I think I got average 22.8 from time of last refill and I've just fueled up again.
  12. Hi Colin, It's the CD based sat nav and on the CD is says "version 2.1. data 98-99". The dealer told me the CD was only 2 years old. So I have defo got an ancient version then ?
  13. Hi peeps, One of the things that is slightly frustrating with my GS 300 Sport is the ridiculously hard suspension. When hitting grids or slight bumps in the road it's like hitting the bloody kerb - the whole car rattles like hell. On motorway and normal smoot roads all is fine. Obviously the Sport version is going to have a harder suspension than non-sport but it seems too hard. The pressure on my tyres are 33 all round (low config should be 32 all round and high figure 36 at front and 35 at back). Can the suspension be tuned to make it slightly softer ? Should I alter the tyre pressures ? Is there something wrong with the suspension ?
  14. Hope you like them...... http://lexusownersclub.com/gallery/album02?&page=38
  15. GS300 interior seat housings and bottom of door trim has black scuff marks. Does anyone know what's the best stuff to remove this ? Either normal household stuff or specialist car solution - either will do. Thanks a lot.
  16. GS300 Sports are very rare indeed. Mine has 89,000, sat nav, reverse sensors, mint inside and out and I got it for £14950. I intend to drive it for at least three years so that gets it to about 125,000 but it still then can be warrantied for another 20,000 miles ! But there are even cheaper GS300 non sports out there and I would have been just as happy to get the Lexus dealer to stick a rear spoiler on it. However there were none around with sat nav at the right price.
  17. Cheers seagram. Didn't get chance to commiserate you on the smash but hope everything goes ok. If there is a problem with his insurance then you can go to the insurance ombudsman. They may be able to get you your money back on repairs or no-claims etc.
  18. Hello people. I checked my tyre pressure on my GS 300 Sport before and all were 32.5psi apart from the front offside which was 27.5psi. On the door it says 36 at front and 35 at back for one situation and 32 all round for another. I can't make out what it actually means as it's half in German. Presently I'm driving the car like an old fart so am expecting much mpre mpg than I'm getting. So far since fuelling up I've done 160 miles at an average of 24mpg. About half of my journeys have been motorway or A road dual carriageway. Should I put the pressures up to the high figures ?
  19. No I didn't ask the same question. I asked whether the gear lights were supposed to be lit up in the first place. I didn't ask about which fuse it might have been. Oh I'll have to take it to Lexus.
  20. The gear lights next to the gearstick are not lit. Nor are the heated seat buttons. I opened the three fuse boxes (in engine, passenger and drivers location) and looked on the lids of the fuse box. Nothing is obvious. In fact one fuse I pulled out of the engine bit then produced a beep beep beep sound from the engine ! I quickly put it back in ! Any ideas before I have to take it back to Lexus ?
  21. If I want to enter a road name in a city or smallish town I select "City / Street Name". However when I typed "Bramhall" in (town in Cheshire) it didn't list it. However if I enter City centre it lists Bramhall but then I can't type the street name in. I have the CD version so am I right in thinking the detailed street maps are for the big Cities only ?
