  1. Hello, do you think that Supra Mk3 allows would be nice in Ls400? These kind of wheels: I could get second hand set for 120e (5 allows). Do you also think that the wheels will fit, The allows are: 5x114.3 7" Et:38 60.1 mm Now I have original Lexus allows in the car
  2. For my car alarm problems were sorted by: -Check Battery connections and make sure they are secure -No metal objects in the door boxes -Always use the lock button in the key twice After these solutions no more problems with the alarm.
  3. Later model should have about 2mpg better results than old model, since it has 5-speed gearbox. My year 1998 version gets results: in the long run 32-35mpg, mixed about 18-19mpg, short trips 15mpg or less.
  4. I went to local Ac repair place and there was valve leaking, so no r134 in the system. How ever after the fill up, compressor still makes noise so that means that compressor is after all faulty, it does not make pressure either. Also the repairer said that about 50% of second hand compressors are useless, so might be best to change the compressor to new one if I feel the need to do this, cheers,
  5. If you are wondering about battery reconnection, I have done it many times without any issues. Only thing to do is that after you start the car, you have to wait maybe 15secs in Park(and press the brake pedal same time just for sure) because otherwise the vsc light might not go off.
  6. Sadly, the change of clutch parts did not solve the issue, so I spend about 150e for nothing:( I quess I should just change the whole compressor at first place.
  7. The reason for noise was that upper control arm connection was loose, so now the noise is gone. There was no need to change bearing after all.
  8. Well, Gs300 has quite similar interior except the dashboard, that is more "sporty", but the seats for instance look just the same. The engine is same than in Toyota Supra, so 3l straight six non-turbo, about 220hp. I am not sure if the automatic is the same than in Ls400. I personally do not like Gs300 that much, Ls400 looks like a classic sedan and I like that.
  9. Yes, abs is not so good in snow than "normal" brakes, because when wheel locks up, the snow actually collects in front of the tyre and therefore helping the braking, same goes with ice if you have studded tyres in the car. Since I have been driving in snow and ice recently, I can tell you that the major problem with Ls400 is not the front grip, that is actually really good (one of best I have ever experienced in any car) but the rear one is the problem. For instance today I was driving in really bad weather and you just don't have enough grip in straight line or corners. I was using snow mode and when I accelerated to 0->50km/h the traction control had to try its best all the time and still the car was turning sideways. It is the same in corners, 1cm too much throttle pedal and car goes sideways right away. The problem with LS400 is that it does not have much road feel, so it does not warn you at all, it just goes.
  10. I think it is something else than abs deactivation, more likely changed throttle response or starting with second gear, hard to say exactly. It does make a big difference when driving in snow and ice, even I have proper winter tyres. For instance I was driving in snow using normal mode, a bit spirited driving I might say and the rear brakes were heating up since the traction control had to do so much work:) That is the reason I would like to use snow mode all the time, to save rear brake pads and tyres.
  11. There are actually quite much variation with winter tyres. You have studded tyres that are the best for winter, then Nordic type winter tyre and European type. So if you have winter tyre and you think that driving in ice will not cause any issues, well it depends the type of tyre you are using. I live in Northern Finland, close to Lapland and the minimum tyre type I can use is Nordic type tyre, using European type would be way too dangerous, studded tyre would be the best choice for me, specially with rwd car. The European type winter tyre is closer to summer tyre, so it has harder compound, usually faster speed rating and it is better in wet conditions and dry tarmac, but not so good in snow and specially not good in ice. Nordic one is quite good in winter conditions, specially in snow and not too bad in ice, but in wet tarmac the grip is worse than with European type winter tyre. So you cannot get everything in one tyre, they are always a compromise. So if you have to get up to the hill when the road is covered with ice, using rwd car and European type winter tyres might not be enough, because you just don't have enough grip. How ever, if the hill would be covered with snow, then you would have a change compared to using summer tyres.
  12. Hello, is there any way to activate snow mode on so it would be on permanently, now when I restart the car it goes off, for some reason sport mode does not do this. Or does the use of snow mode all the time in the winter cause some kind of issues and that is the reason why it cannot be used all the time?
  13. Year 1998 Ls400, I was definitely pleased with the result, considering I did do some overtaking as well.
  14. Just returned from a road trip, I had to go to job interview in Southern Finland so I drove in one day 1018km from north to south and back, mostly roads were 80km/h or 100km/h ones, and I used cruise control all the way, no air con tough. The petrol consumption was 35mpg, that is 8.1l/100km for 1900kg heavy 5-speed automatic V8 car, amazing result I have to say. And since the car is Lexus, I did not need to worry that I would stuck in the side of the road.
  15. I have in my Ls400 Bridgestone Ws70 tires, they are Nordic spec winter tires, so a bit too much for UK I think. Good tires but since I drive in Northern Finland, they have issue with grip, rear end is quite loose and lacks grip, but cannot be avoided without studded tires. Good thing is that since Ls400 is front heavy car, the grip in braking and cornering is really good. And thanks to -5 temperatures, missing block heater and short trips my ls400 takes about 13,5 mpg at the moment.
  16. I have spray painted my LS400 wheels with Halfords silver, the problem is that when you paint the wheels in place and after re balance the wheels you can see right away that wheels have been painted before, Second problem is that if you do not mask the wheels completely, you will get silver tires as well:)
  17. For 1998 year version of Ls400, biggest problems have been with front suspension and front brakes. Then rest of the repairs have been old car faults, like leaking seals etc. And for most of the people that have commented, two things are mentioned always, quietness and how fast the car is:)
  18. I asked the company and it seems that the kit was lost by the courier, so the company has sent me a new item, let see, maybe I get the kit for Christmas:)
  19. Sadly no, I still have not received it yet, I hope it arrives this week.
  20. Well, in my previous car before Ls400 (Daewoo Matiz:D) I had similar issues and the problem was with minus (black) battery connection, it was not 100% secure so sometimes when starting the car I turned the key and nothing happened, I would definitely check the battery connections first, if the ls430 has similar starter setup than ls400 then starter repair is a nightmare, cheers
  21. The SKF kit was finally shipped from UK, so when I get it to Finland I shall take a picture of the set, and we can all see what is the story with it,
  22. I do actually have the parts now (clutch assembly), thanks to Benfur, but I still haven't done anything to fix the issue yet:) How is the installation of the parts, should I take the car to garage or can it be done in parking lot, basically how hard is the installation of the parts, the compressor seems to be quite easily reached, but not sure if this is an easy task. Winter is coming in Finland anyway, so I think the ac compressor will not run under 0 degrees anyway?
  23. I am quite sure that ucf20 does not have radiator cap at all.
