  1. She's going in to Lexus Cheltenham tomorrow for investigation, fixing. Wish me luck.
  2. Thanks all. If it happens again I'll leave the warning sign on until I can get the car to Lexus Cheltenham. I wonder if it will need a new part or just an adjustment?
  3. It's happened again! Car serviced four days ago, they found nothing. Cruising down the autobahn this morning, warning light came on again. There's a Lexus dealership opposite the hotel I stay at in Dortmund, pulled in there and they cleared the fault and gave the ok to continue driving. No charge again. Unlike Lexus France they gave me a print out of the fault. Here it is. Code P0014 Beschreibung. Nockenwellenposition B Zundzeitpunkt zu weit Vorgerrukt Oder Systemleistung (zilindergruppe 1) Übersicht Symbol B Anyone speak German?
  4. The saga continues. Fitters arrived with a new screen ordered from Lexus using the VIN and VRN and Its exactly the same. So, not fitted. They are going to make further enquiries. I had the car serviced yesterday and asked Lexus Cheltenham to have a look at it. They were baffled as well and could not offer any explanation. I've emailed Lexus Headquarters UK and await thier response. Lexus Cheltenham are checking as well.
  5. I was passing Cardif Lexus on Friday and called in to see what they thought of it. They had nobody available to help. I called the fitters again and told them all I want is for someone to try and move the rain sensor. They said they were picking up a new screen from Lexus Cardif and would bring it with them to check against the one I have. They can try and move the sensor and if the screen cracks, fit the new one. They were supposed to phone today with a time slot. They hav'nt.
  6. I reported the mirror being too low to the glass fitters and they said I will have to have another windscreen as the mirror cannot be removed without breaking the glass. On further inspection, I now think its the rain sensor thats too low, There is a bracket glued to the screen and I'm hoping the sensor is clipped into it. I can't move it but I will call into Lexus and see if they can. I do not want another windscreen. I'm tempted to live with it.
  7. One small problem. He attached the rear view mirror too low down and the rain sensor cover does'nt reach the top of the screen and is loose. Its in for a service next month and I'll get them to fix it. I assume the mirror is superglued to the screen and they will be able to get it off?
  8. Well, Autowindscreens Cardiff arrived this morning with a screen obtained from a Lexus main dealer. Lexus logo bottom right, correct tint. All is well. The comming weekeng storms will test for leaks. I'll give it a blast next week and test for wind noise.
  9. Picked up a crack in the windshield on the M5 Saturday. Having it replaced Friday weather permiting. (£70) insurance excess. I asked if they fit genuine Lexus parts and was told they use Pilkington glass and this is what would be supplied by Lexus. They knew the correct tint from the VRN but I'm still a little worried as it seems a disruptive job and a poor fit would lead to wind noise. Am I being paranoid?
  10. Same result using that website, middle of the North Sea. I seem to be on the correct latitude but 2 deg East of the Grenwich meridian. I should be 2 deg West.
  11. Series 5 head unit 2011-12 Ver 1 DVD: First time I've found a POI to be in the wrong place. If you look on Google maps for Hotel Ataliai, Irun Spain, you will see its off the motorway slip road, up to a roundabout, hang a U and its there on the right. The satnav had it miles away. I always check the run in to places I have not been before on Google Street view so knew to ignore the satnav. Try this: Input the Lat and Long of your house into the navigate by co-ordinates section. Mine is shown as being in the North Sea. There's something wrong here. I don't know if its me or the satnav. I am sure I've entered the correct co-ordinates.
  12. Just been on to my dealer and explained the problem. I was hoping there might be a world wide Lexus database that that the fault may have been entered on. As there was no bill raised there is no record of my visit to Lexus Caen. Anyhow, the service center say as long as Lexus Caen said the car was safe to drive its OK to leave it until the next service in August and if the warning lamp doesn't come on again it could have been a miss communication with a sensor.
  13. On my way to Southampton for the overnight ferry to Caen, and from there to Southern Spain. Just short of the ferry port an orange engine warning light came on. No manual with me so carried on and tried to access this site from the docks with an iPhone to ask what the warning was. No luck, I could access the website but could not post. The satnav has all Lexus dealers pre programmed in and a search revealed one in Caen. Result. After a worrying night onboard I was outside the dealers at 0745 waiting for them to open at 0900. When they opened I explained the problem by pointing and showing the warning light. He took the car and parked it in a service bay and sat us in the showroom with coffee. Half an hour later he came back with the keys and said "all OK." I couldn't make out what he said about the problem, the only word I understood was 'computer,' I then asked how much I owed, (Thinking this is gonna take a chunk out of my Benidorm beer money). He replied "nothing." Now that is service and it has restored my faith in Lexus. The rest of the trip, there and back was completed with no further mechanical problems. Satnav problems were another matter. The first problem was my own fault, I disconnected the 12 volt battery before the trip to fit a CTEK battery charger comfort connector to keep the battery topped up as the car is not used all the time. (recommended piece of kit). After four hours driving I realised I had not driven on a motorway yet and it suddenly struck me that the satnav options must have reset to default values. Sure enough it was set to avoid toll roads. An 8 hour journey to the Spanish border for my overnight stop took 13 hours. My fault, no complaints. Thinking about it, The mechanic in Caen could have reset it when he fixed the warning lamp. There were more serious issues with the satnav that I'll start a new tread for after further investigation. Checking the manual on return showed this: Malfunction Indicator Lamp Indicates a malfunction in: The hybrid system The electronic engine control system The electronic throttle control system, or The electronic transmission control system... <Gulp>
  14. My dealer told me the opposite, no need for stickies in Europe. The dipped headlights have a very even throw and with AFS disengaged will not dazzle oncoming traffic. As you say its used to see around corners. I have never been flashed when driving in Europe so I don't believe I'm dazzling others.
  15. Tulpen, does the 460 have a switch on the dash labeled AFS (adaptive front lighting system?) If it does, all you have to do is turn it off for driving in Europe. No sticky things required.
  16. I think the four flashes indicates the alarm is disabled. Try it. Lock the car twice and rock it.
  17. This was my Euro trip last year. My priority when booking hotels is secure parking and easy access from the motorway. Ferry Plymouth to Santander. Santander - Zaragosa: Hotel Tryp Just off Mway, underground car park shared with a supermarket. Santander - Benidorm. Hotel Don Pancho. Totally secure underground car park behind two locked steel gates. Benidorm - Orange France. Ibis Hotel. Secure gated car park. 100 yds off Mway Orange - Trier Germany Hotel Roma Brucken. Open car park opposite hotel with barrier. Trier - Hamburg Raddisson Blu hotel. Secure underground car park. Hamburg - Weissenhausse Strand. Baltic Coast. Secure resort parking. Weissenhausse - Ebsjerg Denmark - Ferry to Harwich. Ferries: Brittany Plymouth Santander superb, good food and entertainment, more like a mini cruise. DFDS Ebsjerg - Harwitch not so good, The ferry is a truck transporter. 2600 miles: 34 mpg, mainly motorway. Spain is the best place for driving, mile after mile of totally empty road. I'm going to Benidorm again in May using the Portsmouth - Caen ferry both ways with an overnight on the French\Spanish border.
  18. There is a button to disable the alarm on mine that I have got into the habit of pushing every time I leave the car to avoid this problem. There must be an option to disable your alarm for journeys on ferries etc.
  19. I too have the Lexus iPod integration kit. As sythe says playlists are how you use it. Playlist 1 is the full content of the iPod and is always the first button on screen 1. There is no limit to the number playlists, I have 30. Navigation of lists is not easy. All that shows on screen are 6 buttons labeled 1 to 6 with no description of what they contain. So if you want list 2 of screen 3 you have to tab all the way over to it. I have a sheet of paper in the car with a descripion of the contents of each list. (I would say what my playlists are but you would laugh at them.) I have replaced the iPod with an iPhone 4 that was playing up with a faulty start button. Its locked away in the glove box and it works fine as an mp3 player or bluetooth car phone.
  20. Well, the only things I can complain about with the 600h are: Tiny boot. There are better satnavs around. The wooden steering wheel looks good but is hard and slippery, I've had to put a naff looking cover on it. This is my second 600h. The first was the long wheel base model, I now have the short WB and much prefer it, although it has fewer toys, such as rear 'Ottoman Massage Chair' and drop down DVD screen in the roof, it just seems more agile and easier to park. I would encourage anyone to test drive both, if you can find the rarer SWB. Another thing worth having is 'Follow On' cruise control. With this you set it to follow the car in front when static in roadworks etc, and it moves off and stops with the car in front. I have 'Adaptive' CC which is great, but not as good, It takes a little time to trust it to brake by itself, but I use it all the time now on Mways without concern, I just pick a car going the speed I want, 70 say, set the CC to 80 and let the driver in front do the accelerating and breaking. If I had 'Lane Assist' I would be able to read the paper. (joking) I get 34 MPG on Mways or normal roads, so no complaints from a 5L V8. The fastest I've been in it is 130 mph on the autobahn. At that speed the engine was unstressed and humming like a sewing machine, and the car felt totally stable and safe.
  21. I don't know, but I would think engine braking would be the least effecient. ie the engine drag is slowing the car not the electric motor\generator. The best way is to roll to a stop with light pressure on the brake. You can see the charge needle go to max when this is done.
