  1. Going to clean the engine bay tomorrow.

Am I right in saying that if I cover the electrical bits such as the fuse box, Battery, oil cap, anything else that has electrical wires connected to them with cling film - I will ensure that the engine is cold.

Then apply Autoglym engine & machine cleaner and then agitate with a long brush and hose down with a light spray on the hosepipe. Then leave to dry for a couple of hours & remove cling film.

Should I be OK or is there anything I should look out for?

    Thanks a lot.

  2. :winky: Jiberjaber - you are absolutely correct, I did also use your pinout layout to locate pin 4 - so my apologies and a big thankyou to you as I was convinced I was using the right pinout as pin 5 was empty - so cheers mate

I'm not going to bother with the ignition sensor as sometimes I use the carkit before I start the engine - thanks anyway!

What about using the car speaker - do I need a relay for that? Yes I know search is my friend :mat: but has anybody succesfully achieved it?

    Ta!

  3. Did you pay by credit card mate? Doesn't insurance cover this sort of thing?

Not really sure about scottish law, but in the UK you only have to give 24 hours notice to cancel hotels, I have stayed in a lot of hotels with my job and I have even cancelled a room in the morning and not had to pay diddly squat. The best example (sorry it doesn't help you but it might add to your complaint - I booked a night out last christmas as a work do for 4 lads in Manchester and 1 cancelled at 5pm when we were driving up there - I checked in and explained the problem and they said ok no issue no charge!!! BTW, it was The Sachas Hotel in Manchester - thumbs up!

Hope you get it sorted - it sounds pretty naff to me.

  4. Well yesterday I finally plucked up the courage to wire up my Nokia Carkit to mute my stereo when receiving and making calls.

I would like to say that I s*****d myself when I unplugged the stereo wired the yellow mute cable to pin 4 on the stereo (blue and orange cable) and plugged the connector back into the back of the stereo and the cd player started making a shuffling sound for about 30 seconds. I think this was a hard reset? Anyway it has been great since.

Anyhoos, it is working brilliantly, I would like to thank Duncan for providing the pin-out colour (in another forum) and Scarface for his contribution as well (in another search I did).

If your thinking of doing this I would advise you to do it, I am no electrician and managed to wire up the mute cable no problems. In hindsight I did cut the cable and use plugs to wire the cables together but I don't think you need to do that as there is sufficient space to plug the yellow mute cable in directly into pin4 (I would recommend you use a hard cable to do this (household electrical type) as it is much firmer to plug in.

Anyway, hope that all makes sense - now I will never miss a call!

Shame it doesn't pause the CD player though, well can't have everything!

    Cheers guys!

  5. I'm thinking of setting up the Lexus Dealers as POI's for tomtom. Before I do it - has anybody else done it already???

If your interested in the files it'll take me a couple of days to accumulate the information into excel and then import it into tomtom. PM me your email address and I'll sort it out :winky:

If anybody has the full list of dealers in an excel of flat file with postcodes then it would be great as a starting point (please pm me info).

    Cheers........Mark.

  6. Stick the phone between you legs with vibrate on - my place of choice.

How much is an SC430 new? Over £50k and your putting your mobile inbetween your legs :lol::lol:

I'm sorry but you spend that sort of money on a car surely you'd fit a car kit? Even a measly IS200 driver like me has a car kit fitted! :driving:

  7. I drove one of these 2 weeks ago at an open day with Lexus Liverpool.

I love the way it looks, probably more so with the roof up. I thought the handling with the roof down was really boggy and sloppy, it was on 05 plate as well. I was convinced about the brakes either, trouble was I'd just driven a new GS430 which was fab in every area.

My biggest gripe was that the doors seemed a lot higher than the driving position, if you could imagine resting your arm on an IS is pretty much parallel, on the SC430 I had to rest my arm at an angle.
