  1. Seeing as how my other car is a motorbike, as it were, I'd be very happy if they would MOT fail any car with defective mirrors! It's dangerous enough as it is without people driving around unable to see that you're about to overtake...
  2. All I can say is I bought my LS400 off him and it has been just fine. Had it checked over by Lexus Bristol and no major probs. I don't think it's really fair to call him a dodgy character.
  3. One thing to check would be the drain holes in the bottom of the rear driver's side door. There are three of them (I think) just above the rubber strip right at the bottom of the door - if they get blocked with dirt or mud or whatever, rain can't drain away after running down the window and can end up inside the car. Giving them a good poke with a cotton bud should tell you if they're clear or not.
  4. My apologies willskoda, I got confused about which sort of car kit we were trying to hook up to.
  5. Have you tried deleting the Parrot from the Samsung's list of paired devices, then re-pairing them, as I suggested? This should work. Yes it can be done, because I have, and have even put the pictures on this forum to prove it...... I had the pleasure of an LS400 waft to Weston-super-Mare and back this morning, and made and received several calls on my Samsung phone via the Parrot bluetooth kit en route
  6. I bought my LS400 from him in March. I had the car checked over by Lexus Bristol and all it needed was a split wiper blade replacing and a rear number plate bulb replacing, so the car was as straight as he said it was. He seemed very straightforward and honest to deal with, and I was and am happy with the deal (107K miles 1998 MkIV, absolutely everything working, £2000).
  7. I paired my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 via bluetooth with a Parrot CK3100 in my LS400, including transferring contacts, with no problems. I doubt that it's a Samsung problem. Try deleting the car kit from the Galaxy's list of bluetooth paired objects, then rescanning and re-pairing.
  8. My understanding is that engine capacity did not change between LS400 generations. Power output was increased in the VVTi engines but by other changes, not changes to cylinder capacity. According to the published bore and stroke, they are all 3968.7cc.
  9. And get the cash up front. Sorry to be cynical, but my experience is that the conversion from enthusiasm to paying up is not 100% efficient
  10. I'm a member of a motorbike owners club where we do exactly that sort of thing. We charge £12 a year for membership of the "parts club", then buy up stuff in bulk, from eBay scrappers and so on and make it available to members for 30% of the manufacturer's list price. The only thing is, ideally you need two dedicated people to make it work - one to deal with the money and one to deal with stock, orders and posting stuff out. It is very difficult to find someone willing to do the latter, particularly as the parts can take up quite a bit of space. We are lucky enough to have someone, so it's a great system and we really save a lot of money.
  11. I was being a numpty. The switch does not lock down, but SNOW does light up on the dash and the transmission characteristics are altered. Pushing the switch down to the snow position again toggles it off.
  12. Many thanks for that - I'll give it a try as soon as I get a chance. Maybe it has come up on the dash and I just haven't noticed!
  13. The manufacturer, the WD-40 Company of San Diego, disagrees with you. They describe its uses on the Material Data Safety Sheet (thanks google) as "Lubricant, Penetrant, Drives Out Moisture, Removes and Protects Surfaces From Corrosion". Well Chris you are obviously an adertising execs dream. WD40 is oily so it will lubricate but is primerily sold as a releasing agent because it is a powerful degreaser it dissolves things and displaces water. You would be a bit daft if you spayed 5W30 on the ignition leads of your old MK2 Cortina on a wet morning when it did not start - WD40 worked well. WD40 in my Lexus V8 would be equally daft - extreme analogies but there we are. I regularly use WD40 in the padlock of my garage to clear out the muck and release it - I don't oil the lock because that would attract dirt. Cheers Bren Getting a bit I just wanted to point out that saying that people should not refer to WD-40 as a lubricant doesn't make sense, since it clearly has that function. If you disagree, tell me this: would you use it to get rid of the moisture on your hands before your next rock climbing session? Or to get rid of dampness on the pedals of your Lexus before a drive? I do hope not - you'll find it's an excellent lubricant :winky:

  15. Does it work whichever drive mode you're in - you don't have to have one of the lower ratios selected?
  16. Perhaps it does and I just missed it - entirely possible! I will check - thank you for your help :-)
  17. The switch that changes the transmission mode from Power -> ECT -> Snow doesn't lock down in the Snow position, but it does in the Power position. When I switch to Power a tally light on the dash comes on to confirm, but pushing the switch in the Snow direction does nothing - the switch doesn't stay down, it just comes straight back to normal. Am I missing something obvious?
  18. It is a little bit of a stretch to hit the green button to initiate a call, though perfectly doable, and then I use voice commands. The microphone pokes out at the top of the driver's side A pillar, and sound is from the driver's door speaker. Here is the link to Steve Benham's website: http://www.mobileradiofitter.co.uk/ (mods, please remove if I'm breaking any rules).
  19. I have had a Parrot hands-free kit installed in my LS400 by Steve Benham, a local mobile auto audio guy (will add the link to his site if allowed - I don't want to break any advertising rules) and he found a very nifty way of concealing it, to maintain a neat centre console. The reversing camera monitor couldn't be hidden so well, alas, but I loved his idea for the Parrot, shown in the pics:
  20. That seems like a fair bargain, I'll put them on my list of choices, as mine needs doingin next couple of months. Did they replace the pump as well No, that was just for the timing belt. I asked about the water pump and was quoted another £100 or so on top, but their advice was not to bother if there are no signs of problems (car has done 107K).
  21. I just had mine done (1998 LS400) at Lexus Bristol for £365. They collected and returned the car as well.
  22. I was able to clean it today - photos taken
  23. Hi, I'm in Yatton, not far from Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare. Who do you use for servicing? A spot of googling revealed a place in Warmley that looked pretty good (First Choice Toyota Specialist Ltd) - do you have any experience of them? I'm just in the process of organising some bluetooth car kit and a reversing camera. The car came with an ancient Nokia kit (including an ancient Nokia phone!) that gets in the way of the front passenger's right knee, so that needs to be changed, and I can't reverse to save my life so need all the help I can get. I've been a motorcyclist for many years, so reversing into tight spaces has not been a necessary skill!
