  1. My paintwork is sound and my vehicle is a little older than yours. Yours may've been resprayed at some point. Have a close look around for overspray, that may give a clue unless it was removed and sprayed.
  2. Beneath the sat nav screen, there is a button, far left with the legend clock. Press it; the screen will display, set to British summer time; press, done.
  3. Good price. Look forward to hearing more about your trip too. Have safe journey. We're planning on driving to Tuscany later in the year.

  5. I'm going with the LEDs, although as Ian has already pointed out, these type of add-ons can have a tendency to look a little chavvy. However, I like the way they are discreetly placed and having looked at the photos a few times now the glow of the alternative option is starting to have the appearance of a pair of energy saving light bulbs.
  6. Blimey! ......... and I thought mine were bad. However, my wheels are showing considerably more corrosion around the Lexus logo than yours. The top photo showing bubbling in the bottom left is similar to mine and every wheel is affected. The corrosion in that picture doesn't appear to be a result of kerbing. Left unrefurbished, I now have an indication of how bad they will get. Polishing makes no difference, these wheels appear to rot from the inside out.
  7. I've viewed many RX400h and without exception all suffered from the same two problems. Corrosion on the alloy wheels and corrosion on the four underside corners of the roof rails. I think it's too much of a coincidence for the problems to be indicative of a particular cleaning product the owners had used. In my opinion there was some sort of manufacturing fault that has probably now been addressed by Lexus. I can't comment on RX300 though.
  8. The car that you viewed is advertised with only 66,000 on the clock, however the seat stitching is coming apart. I thought these seats would've been more robust and good for well over 100,000.
  9. With couldn't agree more Phil. Just because a Lexus dealer has one on the forecourt it doesn't mean it will be a pristine example. When I booked mine in for a service at Lexus Plymouth recently I had a look at what they were offering. I felt a justification for the time it took me to find a decent RX, when a younger version of mine being offered for £5k more than I had paid and was in a much worse condition. I noticed that it had been resprayed near the fuel door, had no rear bumper scuff protector plus there were scratches and nicks all over the paintwork. Clearly a valet had been done on the interior but it couldn't hide the fact it had been, shall I say.......well used. There are decent private ones out there, but they will take a little longer to find and you will have to be prepared to travel.
  10. You clearly made the correct decision, however on a positive note you have now gained some experience of viewing the 400h. My advice is to go and look at a few more, get familiar with the vehicle and have some test drives to enable you to make comparisons. I looked at quite a few before I made my choice. The general condition of the interior will indicate whether previous owners took pride in their vehicle or not. Clearly the one you viewed wasn't the case. When you view privately you will definitely encounter shabby ones, I know I did, but when you find a decent one you can use the experience you've gained to make an informed decision.
  11. Hello, regardless of what insurance group the vehicle is, the bottom line will be how much you have to pay. I went to the price comparison websites for my estimate. With regards to MPG, you should easily achieve 30 in the type scenario you describe. My RX has over 80k and is so smooooth to drive. Just ensure you purchase one that has been cherished. I viewed quite a few privately prior to purchasing, and I can say from experience that not all had been looked after.
  12. I'll start the ball rolling with a few answers: Road Tax approx £250 pa. I've just had main dealer service @ 80,000, cost £318.00 Timing belt: 100,000 miles max. Insurance: Admiral fully comp. £220. Expect 30-34 mpg slow urban but the RX won't do all your journey on battery. Plenty of threads on trickle chargers/battery life, I don't think sockets are continually live but can be meddled with.
  13. WARNING: I'd like to personally advise any fellow club members who are thinking of browsing PartShark, that the site does contain multiple images of RX Lexus' in various stages of breaking, some of which you may find disturbing..😄
  14. Looks like you had a great run out and it seems 35psi works for you too! Your MPG appears to be the same as mine for a similar type of run. Mine went in for a service last week and it was collected and returned from where I work. As a matter of curiosity I reset the trip to zero. The vehicle was returned to me showing an average of 29.2! Having owned the car since June and never dipped below 31.4 I can only assume I have a hybrid foot.
  15. Ahhhhh, the irony of it all! I tried 36psi all around once, but the ride was too harsh. Currently happy with 35 all round. I've got one of those digital tyre inflators that plug into the ciggie lighter. Essential piece of kit to keep those pressures accurate; fits neatly under those covers in the boot and more convenient than going to a garage forecourt.
  16. Appears to be a good outcome. I've got mine going in for a service next Wednesday. There's a slight rumbling from the brakes and I've asked Lexus Plymouth to quote me for any additional expense before going ahead with the work. I have a feeling that pads and maybe discs could be required. I'll be taking their estimate to another garage for comparison. I'm of the opinion that brake and disc work shouldn't be too complicated for an experienced mechanic, therefore I really don't want to go with main dealer prices if they will be unnecessarily high.
  17. Does anyone have a set of S44 Prorack roofbars gathering dust/no longer required? I require them for my RX400h. Unfortunately there has been no sign of any on Ebay of late therefore I'd be grateful of a PM with details. Hoping someone can help, thanks.
  18. Thanks for posting. I like the colour. The refurbished wheels look fantastic too. I must look into getting mine done because they seem to disintegrate a little more with every clean.
  19. I poured a whole bottle of Redex injection cleaner into a full fuel tank last weekend prior to my trip to London. Today at Hope Cove in Devon I reset my MPG. I drove up hill and down dale through the Devon countryside to home. The distance was 34 miles and the computer declared an astounding 40.4 MPG.
  20. I couldn't agree more Jon. When I purchased my RX400 I was able to, (and I use the term loosely) 'trade in' my Peugeot 406 diesel estate. This suited me because the tax and MOT were due to expire. The engine had 170,000 on the clock and was smoking a fair bit. Nobody would've bought it, and had I not traded it I probably would've had to pay someone to tow it away.
  21. Interesting responses; I broke my duck yesterday and saw two, one in Cornwall and the other in Devon. I spotted a gleaming black and not so gleaming beige type colour. Along with keywest, I seem to see more 450h, and I thought we were in a recession. Perhaps people would rather spend their money wisely on large ticket items and enjoy life a little instead of putting it away in the bank gaining little interest. I know I have!
  22. Indeed there are Duncan, 11,254 according to the link and as Colin has already highlighted. However, if you look at the stats you'll notice that I was referring to my particular model.
  23. I’ve been a proud owner of a 400h for only six weeks down here in Cornwall and I’m yet to see another. It got me wondering just how many are left. The link below provides the answer. http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/?utf8=%E2%9C%93&q=rx400h At the time of writing 5,356 and I’m yet to see one. This has got me wondering whether the majority of vehicles owned are in urban areas. Where do you live and do you regularly see similar vehicles to the one you own?
  24. This episode looks as though you've been a victim of good old fashioned service and the assistant who helped you won't go far in the automotive industry. As a result he should be immediately sacked. :D
  25. Looks as though they've solved the problem of dashboard reflections :D
