  1. Did the tyre fitter actually say "it's too old to be safe" ? Is your spare a skinny space saver ? Maybe his advice was concerning a space saver which is usually restricted to 50 mph ? Sorry for the questions, just trying to clarify :)
  2. He has a 250 SE-L petrol. Recently acquired my 250 SE-L so bought some batteries to replace the key fob ones...just in case...only then did I read that the car warns you if they're getting low ! Yes, it is my understanding that you use the metal key to gently prise the fob apart. Haven't a clue about additives, never used them. I believe that modern fuels contain detergents and your occasional motorway spurt should give the engine a burn out. Worth driving on the paddles occasionally to take the revs higher and give the engine a blast.
  3. I've been transferring my records to the pc since February and am about 75% done now. During this time, my main amp and speakers have been decommissioned with my TT and pre-amp permanently connected to the pc. Can't wait to complete the project so I can have the full kit in all its glory again ! For the interim I've been using a pair of Quad 9L Actives connected to my pc.....they are magic !!! Up to now I have only loaded one cd into the ML Lexus set-up, mostly to see if it works or not ?? I chose to load Alice In Chains "Unplugged", one of the very best recorded and mastered cds I know, despite it being a live performance. I've been out and about a bit this afternoon and gave it a good listen. I'm well impressed and I am now considering what other cds to load. I may burn a couple from my vinyl rips, that will really evaluate the ML system for me. Yes, I know, I'm a dinosaur !!! My IS250 doesn't have holes in the footwell though.....I've moved on from Fred Flintstone !
  4. To the best of my knowledge, all SE-Ls have the "wood" trim to the doors and centre console.
  5. Maybe you're correct Neil.....about chasing the dream ! When I play music I tend to listen intently wanting no distractions, just like someone glued to an exciting film. As a consequence, I rarely listen in the car. Enjoy your Supertramp. CotC is by far the best IMO, but try to hear their self titled debut too.
  6. Lovely colour ! Where are you travelling to collect it ? When I collected my Lexus last month, I set off at 7:30am and got home at 10:00pm !! There were a few troubles along the way, hope it goes smoothly for you Andrew.
  7. Haha ! I thought I'd frightened everyone off with my music taste ! As I've said Neil, I'm not much of a music player in the car, a notoriously difficult environment to reproduce good sounds. I recall seeing Michael posting on another thread that he prefers his Meridian HiFi (not surprised !). I'm not keen on the ML kit either......it's very impressive initially, but bloated and overblown to create impact. In a word "unsubtle" to my ears. Beats the pants off standard Golf and A3 installations, but I wouldn't shell out if I was buying new ! I'm delighted with my new vehicle, particularly the smoothness and quietness. Getting to know it better all the time.
  8. This is what I bought recently for my vehicle. I'm very pleased. Not authentic Lexus, but they are a very good fit. They have multiple choices of colour, trim, beading etc. Take a look in their shop. I'm not connected to them btw. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360516592233?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Hope you get fixed up.
  9. Only got my IS250 on the 4th November and only recently received the V5 from DVLA. I haven't received a letter, it's very unlikely that the change of ownership has filtered through I suspect. Anyway, I googled Lexus Recall and was able to ascertain that my vehicle is affected and I'm invited to contact the dealer to arrange the rectification work. If it wasn't for this forum I doubt I'd have learnt of the recall issue.........thanks guys !
  10. I could take the 18s off you in exchange for my 17s !!! Lol !
  11. In my experience with other marques, on RHD vehicles the LH mirror housing is at roughly 45 degrees to the door but the RH housing is maybe at 75 degrees. Guessing the angles, but the different housings allow the adjustment of the mirror glass to be small, rather than the adjustment necessary for a universal LH/RH housing. I maybe incorrect, I'm sure someone will tell me ?
  12. Only ok for USA if they come from a LHD in Europe. A set of mirrors from a UK car would be the wrong angle for a LHD.
  13. Thanks to everyone. Sorry, I originally replied on the linked thread.......Doh !
  14. What an overwhelming response......thank you everyone. My SE-L is UK registered Nov 2008 so doesn't have the facility. It's not so important for me to retro-fit it, just thought I might be missing a way of turning it on !
  15. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think I've read about the door mirrors on an SE-L automatically turning inwards when the vehicle is locked ? Mine don't ! I usually lock by using the rubber switch on the door handle, but locking using the key fob doesn't do it either. Couldn't find any reference in the manual. Do I have this wrong, or is there a fix ? Many thanks.
  16. My Lexus is very new to me and it's noticeable that it takes a while to come to operating temperature. My commute to work is only 5 miles at 30 or 40 mph and the motor's not at normal temperature when I arrive ! My previous Saab was up to normal by half way. More mass in the block I guess being a V6. Anyway, can't be good for economy. Since the last fill up, my computer is showing 29mpg, that's about 10 commutes to and from work with one 40 mile round trip to the supermarket.....so not too bad ! Saab was doing 27mpg. Yes, you read correctly, tidy supermarket is 20 miles away ! It's bliss here !!!!
  17. Michael - I'm not familiar with your kit, but Meridian active speakers have a great reputation, sadly I've never heard any. I have a tv in my room for watching the footie, but my system is purely audio. My MF A308 is a monster of an amp that just oozes current. Quad 22L2s are 3 way floorstanders going to 30Hz. I can't do classical, doesn't grip me. I know Four Seasons and Nachtmusic (just reminds me of showjumping on telly). A client of mine suggested Mahler's 6th for some mood and aggro - doesn't do it for me either. Ian - I'm recording my vinyl to Flac at 24bit/96kHz, this is far higher resolution than vinyl is capable of, 192 would be a waste of storage for the larger files. My Gyrodec has a Roksan Tabriz Zi arm with Ortofon MC25FL moving coil cartridge. It's a very good player, but I never say it's better than digital, it can't be. But....and it's a very big but, the music I like is better presented on vinyl as the cd versions produced tend to be poorly mastered with loads of compression. Have heard of Shpongle and Daft Punk, but don't know their music. My music - I'm encapsulated in a time warp of early 70's rock music. Zeppelin, Sabbath, Purple, Family, ELP, Yes, Caravan, Genesis, Wishbone Ash, Argent, Budgie, Curved Air, Dr Feelgood, Free, Groundhogs, Jethro Tull, Man, Stray, Supertramp. My softer side likes Sade, Jennifer Warnes and more recently KT Tunstall. Car's going great btw !!
  18. Exposure and Kef, nice kit Ian. I'm a vinyl fan with Gyrodec, Musical Fidelity amp and Quad speakers. I'm in the process of digitising all my vinyl to PC. Using an Asus Essence STX card in the PC. With regard to cables, having tried QED Silver Anniversary, I'm a copper lover......SA was too bright !! Don't want to turn this into another HiFi forum, but great to hear from yourself and Michael with a common interest.
  19. I've been concerned whether members have been scratching their heads wondering "what's he going on about....cables....debate ??). The most fiercely contested area of debate in HiFi circles, with much nonsense spouted. Hello Michael, I had a Meridian cd player once, lovely machine. Restrict myself to pfm (Pink Fish Media) forum now, make the odd contribution, but mostly for entertainment - just like the Fiat one you refer to ! I'm still into my HiFi but use my ears to decide rather than other people. It's ironic that my IS has the Mark Levinson kit and I rarely play music in the car.....usually Radio 4 ! Any other HiFi lovers on here ? Had my vehicle just over 2 weeks now and loving it, when I can extract it from the wife !
  20. I had the same difficulty with a HTC One M8. Every time I tried to transfer my phonebook the connection was lost. Fortunately, I'm a bit of a Billy No Mates so manual entry didn't take too long. Bit of a nuisance though !
  21. Thanks Noo bie. The car has new oil from just 3 weeks ago and it is up to max on the stick. Maybe it's just me and I'm not describing correctly ? It's not loud, just a different (slightly rougher) sound until everything gets up to temperature. My Saabs sounded "tappety" upon start up from cold, but soon settled down to quietness when warm. Think it's my unfamiliarity with this engine, never run a 6 potter before. My motor has an excellent service history, 5 Lexus stamps and the last 2 from a Jaguar agent, with just 65k on the clock I'm not anticipating a major problem. Thank you for your input.
  22. Mine had an oil change just 2 weeks ago prior to my collection. The rattle (noise) I refer to is only apparent after cold start up and vanishes after a few miles as everything gets up to temperature. Is this normal ? Maybe I'm a little sensitive to it because it's a new acquisition, but also because the cabin is so very quiet that a little bit of engine noise appears intrusive.
  23. I'd use Humbrol Polystyrene Cement, that's the stuff for Airfix kits. It works by dissolving the surface of each piece of plastic and it effectively forms a "weld". I'm assuming it's plastic btw !!
  24. I only do about 7k miles pa so I have an annual service coinciding with the MOT. Works for me. I'll incorporate a flush next time too. Interesting Honest John comment ! When I was searching for my Lexus I used eBay and Autotrader mostly. I'm a fussy bugger and not averse to travelling for the right car (went 200 miles for this one). All of the cars I considered were advertised with a full service history, some sellers interpretation of fsh doesn't concur with mine ! I recall one vehicle with 55k on the clock, when I asked for the SH details I was told "11k, 21k, 32k and 54k". This dealer believed that to represent a fsh !! I wouldn't dream of travelling 22k miles in between services, why should I buy a car that has done that ? Just a gentle warning to others to investigate the fsh "claim" quantitively. I do notice a slight "rattle" from the engine after start up from cold. Only heard from within the cabin, not listened under the bonnet yet. Is this the VVTI issue that Noo bie refers to ? It goes away very quickly as the engine warms up. Is this normal ?
  25. Thanks Noo and John. I'd probably have kept with Saabs if there was a continuum of supply, no complaints about my Saabs, loved them. Love this new (to me) Lexus too ! The service history is excellent, every 10k approx, so I don't expect a very dirty engine. Maybe a flush prior to oil change is good, what product do you prefer to use ? I had a go with the paddles today, great fun ! I think it was John that suggested that many autos don't get above 2500rpm, mine did today. Nothing daft, but it was interesting to discover what poke is available if I need it. Can't get over how very smooth this gearbox is, changes are virtually imperceptible.
