Car returned, the aux belt was an order item so couldn't be fitted until next week so a £150 smaller bill than anticipated. They also fitted new number plates FoC, new remote batteries FoC, and 3x metal Lexus Edgware key rings FoC... hot chocolate was pretty good too :) I will place an order for new wipers and an aux belt from Amayama, together with some ARB bushes front and rear. Thankfully the whining I was getting from the engine bay has also gone, so together with fresh 5/30 (was previously on 5/40) I can really hear the engine now which is great in my opinion. Will give it a good thrashing later this evening ! It was a 1k bill in the end however they appeared enthusiastic about the car overall, so can't complain too much.

So i dropped off the car at Lexus Edgware this morning, got a call at 3pm to advise of some advisories and an issue. Advisories: "wiper blades non-genuine and ineffective" - correct, but good enough for now air con service - "based on service records, aircon needs a re-gas and pollen filter needs changing " - how about actually testing the temperature and inspecting the pollen filter (changed last week, and aircon serviced in July) "Aux belt needs changing - 150 GBP to you sir " - erm ... what?! Surely this is parts only if all the other gubbins have been removed for the cambelt job? Is there a tensioner/pulley for the aux belt too? Issue: "engine undertray cannot be removed due to rusty fasteners - needs to be removed for access to cambelt / water pump job as well as oil change - 200 GBP to replace the fasteners " - erm.... what ?! I also enquired about a transmission fluid change, they advised its not recommended and is not required ?

At my local Tesco in North London (Friern Barnet) might be worth checking your local stores

Post from 'Yamae' on the thread below suggests a throttle body clean may help matters: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/topic/73008-1998-ls400-shifting-issue/

Uh-oh, sounds expensive! Will check fluid levels tomorrow Didn't happen at all today whilst driving.

So wheels refurbed and new tyres fitted Opted for a powdercoated finish all over rather than go with the polished lip that the DHPs would have had - this should be longer lasting than a polished finish, which all seem to suffer water ingress pretty quickly. Centre caps are just plain push fit caps off ebay, sprayed to match. I have stickered logos to with the caps , however they are roughly 52mm diameter, which leaves a 1mm 'gap' all round. Unsure how my OCD will cope with this, but will try them once the weather warms up a bit to ensure they have every chance of staying on. Tyres: Dunlop Sport Maxx RT 235/55 R17 99V AO, MFS (A rated for sound (67dB), A rated for wet weather performance, C for fuel efficiency) - £394 delivered Took it for a spin up the M1 and found the tyres soooo much quieter than the ditchfinders that were on it - maybe expected as the old tyres were quite badly weathered and had cracks appearing on the sidewalls. Also noticed the slight increase in overall diameter introduced by using 235/55/17 as made the speedo more accurate by 2mph in comparison with the Waze app (used to read 4-5mph higher on the old 225/60/16s) There doesn't appear to be much if any increase in harshness at road speeds, it still retains that factory feel to it, so a win all round from my perspective. The new setup has also removed a significant wheel wobble I was getting at m-way speeds, which is nice. Steering weight feels very slightly heavier, but this could just be down to being slightly under-inflated. Will check pressures with a digital gauge, but I had asked for 32psi all round. Lastly - there is a difference in the wheel nut - the DHPs require a conical nut, in comparison with the flatter nut of the 16" wheel. Luckily, the wheel refurb place had 16 suitable spares which they sprayed up whilst i waited. I love the way it now looks, however my attention is now on the loose and broken bits of trim which are letting the side down somewhat.

Thanks goldtop - similar symptoms then but not 100% the same. I wonder if mine is sensor related.

Just recalled, it happened near my house after a 45 min drive, so would have been at normal operating temps. I turned right at a traffic light, felt some hesitation, i.e. revs building but no movement, then suddenly it 'caught' and i shot off with a bit of wheel spin! could this be throttle position sensor related?

Goldtop - did you find a fix to this? I've experienced something very similar earlier this evening in my 98 LS400. I can't recall if it happened when the car was cold or warmed through.

Gents, seeking your help to ID some parts needed to re-affix the lower cladding on the NSF wing and NSR door. http://www.lexussouthatlantaparts.com/showAssembly.aspx?ukey_assembly=787389&ukey_make=1082&ukey_model=15669&modelYear=1998&ukey_category=21743&ukey_driveLine=8081 From the above diagram, I can't decipher which adhesive pads I need, nor the plastic mounting clips that attach the cladding to the wing and door (14mm and 19mm diameter according to the diagram) eg Front wing sticky pad - i see its 75696 for RH and 75696A for LH (assuming LH/RH is when sat in the car ?)- however there are two part numbers for each A and D ? 7569650050 and 50060 I'm a newbie to the parts catalogue, so hoping something simple, eg, does *60 supersede *50 Same point re the front wing cladding mounting clips - 2 part numbers for both 75397A and D, which are the same, ie 7539750040 and 50050. Help please!
