  1. Hi Dougie175, like the idea of module for folding mirrors. Is it a Lexus part , do you have an item code and is it easy to fit.
  2. Reading between the lines of the majority of members comments, it would appear Lexus service costs are a sore point, and considering the majority of checks carried out are visual inspections( which I suspect is not beyond the ability of the members of this forum) begs the question, at what age of the vehicle does it become foolish to keep getting the car serviced at a Lexus dealership rather than an independent or for those with the skill, do it yourself .
  3. After trying to decipher Lexus Warranty literature I'm at a loss as to what is actually covered, when purchasing the car the salesperson told me everything is covered just like a new vehicle ( OK, I know you're all smiling and saying you didn't fall for that old line). The amount of exceptions makes me wonder. The reason I'm asking the question is when cleaning the car today I noticed, what appears to be water marks along the inside of the NSF headlight at the bottom where the lens meets the reflector, the marks are on the reflector, not the lens. The headlight is not fogged up and it is not that noticeable however not much rain has fallen since getting the car and I'm wondering if this would be covered under warranty. If not has anyone else experienced this issue. If so, is it worth bothering about or is there any easy fix. Not a great lover of car sales people and don't really want to go back only to be confronted by a grinning salesperson telling me "I'm on to plums" . I have attached 2 photos of the headlight, any or all comments welcome.
  4. Hi Gary and welcome to the forum, the mileage on your car is nothing and it certainly looks in great condition. Hope you have many enjoyable miles driving your new car. All the best, Alan.
  5. Beautiful colour and will take on a great shine when polished, well done for treating yourself and I wish you many enjoyable hours motoring in a stunning looking car. All the best.
  6. Regarding MPG for IS250 petrol, first time I have put it to the test on a long run, Bispham to Cumbernauld, reset average MPG when filled up at petrol station, constant speed between 70-80 MPH (don't tell anyone!). Filled up tank at the end of journey. Average MPG gauge reading 41.8, calculated the old fashioned way (miles travelled divided by fuel used ) and was pleasantly surprised at a result of 42.7 MPG. This proves the average MPG gauge is pretty accurate but more important to me is the car is not as bad as I was expecting for a 2.5l six cylinder engine. Happy days.
  7. Hi Toothy I certainly would not get spark plugs done at 21k miles, however I don't know if they will insist on it being done before they are prepared to stamp service book. I would be interested on how you get on and the stance Lexus take on it. All the best.
  8. I'm a great believer in " don't fix something that isn't broken". If the car is going well and fuel economy is OK then leave well alone. Nothing worse than trying to improve something and then creating a bigger problem. I've just got rid of a 15 year old Mercedes (had since new), spark plugs never done and still with original pads and discs, albeit only 55k miles on clock. If I had followed Mercedes service plan all these things would have been done. The car was more responsive and better fuel economy than the car I'm driving now, so if your car is giving you trouble free motoring leave well alone, you'll soon be aware if spark plugs are starting to fail. From American web sites, they run their Lexus cars for 100k miles before renewing spark plugs.
  9. Hi James, sorry I don't know if its my age regarding text speak or there is some problem with your keyboard but I'm at a loss on understanding your post.
  10. Thanks Colin, at least last 2 years would be something, Car only done 36K miles so I don't (i hope) expect to find anything major having been done.
  11. Thanks John and Rebecca for your replies, have been trying for the past 2 days to get onto the www.lexus.co.uk site regarding "My Lexus", however keep getting message "system down" please try later. May have to wait until I'm near a Lexus dealership as Rebecca suggested.
  12. Having recently purchased an approved used IS250 from Lexus dealership, car has full Lexus service history. I assume Lexus has a full and comprehensive list of all work which has carried out over the lifetime of the vehicle. I am interested in the actual work which has been done previously, can anyone advise if this information would be available for me at the dealership on request or would they chase me.
  13. Hi Steve2006, thanks for youtube, gave it a try tonight , unfortunately when I go through menu . Setup, vehicle, I am then only offered 2 choices, Maintenance and Lexus Park Assist. No vehicle customisation available. Disappointed as I thought you had cracked it when I watched the youtube. Anyway thanks for trying to help me. All the best.
  14. Will try and figure out the best set up, seems a very simple set up made complicated. Auto door locks are a great idea to keep outsiders out of the car however with any other car I've had with this autolock system, the front passenger could always get out using the handle. Seems Lexus has a set up whereby passengers lock is permanently locked if autolock is in operation and if disabled anyone can enter car from outside. Simplicity is genius!!.
  15. Hi Deanflyer, I had a very faint noise coming from my car, only evident up to 20MPH then disappeared, happened every time. Got my wife to drive the car and I listened from outside to try and identify where it was coming from, could not hear it from outside. I was pretty sure it was some play in a revolving joint which was disappearing at speed. Back to dealership, after and hour of trying the service manager noticed the handbrake cable was not secured in retaining clip on offside. Thank goodness for the easy fix. Not suggesting this is where your noise is coming from however may be worth checking. Service manager stated could have been like that for a while as if you were driving with radio on, you probably would not have heard it. Like you I'm very susceptible to noise issues and they also drive me nuts. Hope you get to the bottom of this.
  16. Thanks for the prompt reply, may have a go at painting them when better weather comes. Do you think the job is possible to do without removing brake fluid hoses keeping the caliper suspended. Don't fancy making the job any harder than necessary.
  17. Hi Guys, Thanks for all the replies, glad to see I'm not the only one with this setup. Still think it could be safety issue in an accident and the front passenger can't get out.I checked the owners manual and my interpretation of it appears to suggest the inside handle should open doors whether in locked position or not.See attached. door locks.docx
  18. Superb job Normski2, never painted calipers, is it a difficult job?. I sidetrack here, I've just purchased the same car in the same colour as yours and I'm really chuffed with how good it looks. one fly in the ointment however, is when I picked it up, the NSF mudflap was missing. Dealer said he would order however has since come back saying Lexus don't do part any more. I notice your car has mudflaps fitted( I know mudflaps are not everyone's cup of tea) and I feel with this colour of IS they look great. Are your mudflaps the originals or do you know anywhere that may stock copy part to match originals.
  19. Thanks Nemisis UK, that was my thoughts when I purchased he car from Lexus Dealership approved used, questioned the service manager and he stated it was a safety feature, seems very strange. Will have to go back, I assume your car operates the normal way of most cars.
  20. New to Lexus, have a IS250, seems strange set up with front passenger door lock. All locks operate into lock position when driving , when I stop the vehicle I can open the drivers door with the chrome handle, however the front passenger door stays in the lock position and when you use the chrome handle nothing happens, you have to manually unlock before chrome handle becomes able to open door. Coming from a Mercedes, both front doors could be opened from handles when car stationary. Is this normal or is there a setting to allow both front doors to open with handles. look forward to any advice.
  21. Hope someone can help, picked up my IS250 mkII from Lexus dealership last week, having inspected it well the week before buying. After arriving back at house I noticed NSF mud flap missing (fixing screws still in place, therefore hadn't fallen off), definitely there on initial inspection. Back to the dealership, only to be advised none in stock. Part number:GBNGA-59311, looking for help trying to locate a new one, even second hand would do . Any members know a company selling good copy parts. All advice would be appreciated.
  22. Hi Guys New member to forum and Lexus. Just purchased 2012 IS250 Advance from Main Lexus dealership, I inspected car a week before deal went through and everything was looking great. Went back to finalise deal at the weekend. When I got car home realised front nearside mud flap was missing( convinced it was there at initial inspection), hasn't fallen off as fasteners are still in tact. Took back to dealership, service manager said he would order new one. Service manager phoned today to say Lexus don't do mud flaps for this car any more, however would try to source from somewhere. I know it's only a mud flap but I'm gutted, a car with 3 mud flaps looks crap. Any experts out there have any idea where I could source a Lexus one from, I think the mud flaps set the car off. First Lexus and its taken a bit of the shine off getting a new car. Any and all advice greatly appreciated.
