  1. Awesome information Colin. Explains the situation very well. Now I understand the transition. Trawling forums often leads to partial facts and confusion. I clearly was confused by the whole AGM debate running through this and other threads & on other forums. My replacement battery works well despite the expended shelf life. I haven't probed directly yet but in car, via one of those cig lighter voltmeters, it shows about 12.2 at ignition, not ready status. I'd have expected nothing less than 12.5 to be honest. But am aware that the gadget reads under by about 0.2v As promised I attach a side view of my old battery. It was not level, I tilted it 30 degrees or so make viewing the fluid levels more obvious. In beautiful condition despite the (ignition status) voltage sitting at 11.5 to 11.8v, and the car refusing to charge it at times (sitting at 12.8v and not 14.4 as expected). New battery appears to be charging just fine. One last thing, those electronic battery tester gadgets (Topdon) are very unreliable. I bought one to see the condition. Wish I hadn't wasted my money on it. Although the results off car appear more consistent.
  2. My 2019 rx450h had a flooded lead acid battery. I doubt it was replaced. Dealer quoted me £180 fitted for a flooded lead acid. I can double check this. But also Lexus parts direct also show a flooded lead acid, which is what I bought. Oh and the vent tube fitted perfectly, and I removed the bung from the old battery and fitted to the far side of the new battery. Bung was nothing more than a Bic brio end plug. https://lexuspartsdirect.co.uk/product/lexus-rx-phase-4-starter-battery/ £81 plus postage of about £5 or £6. Attached the top view of my old battery. Tomorrow I'll take a picture of the side view, which said Panasonic on it. and also had some nice fluid levels at the ends with the middle cells being a little less, but sufficient to cover the cells. So I am very confident that my OEM Panasonic was a flooded lead acid. Are all rx450h flooded lead acid? maybe not. Would explain the price difference for the 3rd gen vs 4th gen battery costs at LPD.
  3. Replaced with a toyota battery from LPD. Around £88 I think. Dated Oct which is already 5m old! Appears ok but won't know for a few days. Thanks for the link to LDP. Really cheap compared to dealer who quoted £180 fitted. 2019 Rx 450h.
  4. To be fair, this UWB tech has only been around since 2018 or so..... I would expect all car manufacturers to embody this in the next 5 years. But top marquee should be first, so there is no excuse from Lexus. I particularly like the idea of integration with a smart phone, such that a separate key is not required. I remember Tesla made their own mobile car start tech. It just takes ideas and a will to adapt, funding will then follow. That's what makes Tesla so appealing to the youth. Dash cams? Nah, Tesla built that in. Other cars in 2022, "we can fit a dash cam for you" but it looks shlte. This is what made Tesla such a game changer. The 'electronic cockpit' they are all now hurriedly producing, thank Tesla for that too. Forcing their hand to give us modern tech and not stale 1990s clocks and dials. I'm not a Tesla fanboi and actually the opposite, but I do appreciate and recognise the benefits Elon has given us, indirectly.
  5. I have smart entry turned off. Simple. Only way to unlock car is to press the buttons! No cage, no cost just usage of my fingers! Only a slight 'inconvenience' geez, remember when we had to put a key in to ignition switch and turn it! Soz for the sarcasm, but sometimes the simplest option is best, and cheapest.
  6. Not having Carplay / Auto stopped me from buying a much newer car. I might not stay with Lexus next time if things don't improve in that dept. @bluenose1940 appreciated. I'll have a play with the nav and see if it's worth £44 or whatever it was. I'll let you know if that website was any good if I buy from them.
  7. I pick the car up on Monday. I'm guessing the map will be 2014 so will probably look into buying something. Depends on how easy it is to use first though - many have said it's a bit of a pig. The other Firmware 2016 thread has the VD1204B.zip file with a recent update that I could put on for now. It appears to solve a few minor issues and one person said the performance of nav improved. Sounds tempting.
  8. I found that place. Is it trustworthy? Do you know anyone who bought from them personally?
  9. Anyone managed to copy a card and get that working?
  10. Hi all. Just got a IS300h luxury with premium nav. Could do with a recommended seller for a new sd card. Is it worth just updating using the files in a previous post, menu update only I think, or should I go the whole hog and do the latest map? Lexus said it's £200 for the SD card but weren't keen to get me one strangely!
  11. Hi, Lexus wannabe here. Weighing up a luxury Vs premier. Did you drive the luxury? How do you think it compares to the premier in terms of ride quality? Was set on the luxury but now second guessing.
  12. The 2016 luxury I test drove was difficult to keep in ev mode. I usually drive with a feather foot too! The dealer suggested that next year's model would probably not have an EV button.
  13. Very interesting.... The cost of repair especially! I had an ac condenser changed under warranty on a Hyundai and that would have cost me about £800. So I guess it is worth it. I'm going to have to HP a smallish amount as I'm short. Is there any danger with that? I should start a new thread i suppose - again! Lastly, if buying from a Lexus dealer, is a hpi check still necessary? If bought on hp, wouldn't the hp company also run a hpi check and so, be a benefit to having hp?
  14. Sorry chaps. I've gone through most posts and the consensus is that all Lexus cars are reliable. One person said with hindsight, it was a waste. I'll be buying the 2016 model, probably in the next 3 months.
  15. Thanks chaps, it's what I was thinking deep down. Since this is my dream car, I feel like it needs special attention. I had a Freelander that I never washed outside but kept the interior clean. I took it down green lanes with bushes scraping the side. When I traded it in, I washed it. The dealer was amazed at the condition of the car considering the age. No scratches anywhere. The dirt protected the paint! The leather seats wore really well (beige too). Rear being new and rarely sat on. What worried me was seeing a 4 year old car with the driver's seat in a really poor state.
  16. Hi, I'm about to buy a 450h and the dealer has offered some leather protection for about £500. I can't remember the exact price. But it's a coating that is then warrantied for life of my ownership. I think he also said it covers the paintwork too for 3 years. A bit vague on the details as I was in a hurry. Is this worth it?
