  1. Thanks for joining in - the moral support is appreciated! The simple answer on fuel pipes is that I don't know. Worth asking Lexus though, I guess... thanks for that. Fuel filter is in theory not a service part - I had the same thought! Could be worth a check though - I believe there's an inspection hatch to get at it relatively easily. Temperature sensor appears ok - all of the readings look normal in the freeze frame data against the fault code in techstream. I don't know how old the battery is, so that had crossed my mind too, however I've not had any issues with it apart from this, and it seems unlikely that it would start going wrong ~30 mins into a journey when up to temperature (and charge). Again the freeze-frame data says a solid 14.2V... Short of just buying a new one though, it's hard to be sure!
  2. This doesn't appear to be a common problem, so I've not found much out there by way of guidance - any ideas appreciated! My car: 2010 GS450h. The problem: Over the weekend I noticed a 'hiccup' (momentary loss of power, no fault codes) twice (on two different days), but then the car ran fine afterwards. Yesterday however, the dreaded engine warning light appeared on my way to work - code p0087. Didn't find much out through a quick google in the day, but when I set off to get home it transpired that all was definitely not well. It was a bit hesitant to start with, but very quickly got worse - now it runs fine as long as you don't give it more than a tiny bit of throttle - if you do, it cuts out completely and reverts to battery power until restarted. If driven very gently, it switches between engine and electric power just fine. I tried clearing the code (shown as 'pending' btw) but it comes straight back and there's no change to the symptoms. I got the car home ok (not on the motorway though!), but now I'm stuck with what to do! Everything is pointing at this being a fuel issue and nothing to do with the hybrid system. The fuel setup is (I believe) very similar to that on any number of 6-cyl GS/ISs, but I've not seen much mention of this problem anywhere. The potential faults as I see them: High pressure fuel pump - would it run at all if this had failed? Would I expect to see any other fault codes? Low pressure fuel pump - same questions as for the HP pump! I can command it to run in techstream and it seems ok from there, but that's a pretty limited test. Fuel pressure regulator/piping/filter - I don't even know what the setup looks like but I guess it feels more like something has 'stopped' from an electrical point of view rather than a leak/blockage? Fuel rail pressure sensor - the only reference I've found to these failing sees other fault codes thrown too... Anyone else got any genius ideas, or seen something similar??
  3. I purchased the one recommended by @Herbie here: ...installed on a win10 laptop and working fine - no need for any fiddling. Would have been more satisfying to achieve through messing around with VMs, but IME not necessary!
  4. I've just had 3 of my 4 new discs replaced under the parts warranty, as apparently they were 'warped'. Now I'll take the choice of phrase with a pinch of salt, but they definitely weren't right! My suspicion is that it was caused by stopping with my foot on the brakes after slowing from motorway speeds, so I'll certainly try to avoid doing that with the new ones. PITA with the hybrid though, and no mention in the manual. Has anyone seen a break-in procedure specified anywhere? I did ask at Lexus - you'd have thought they'd be keen to avoid having to do it again... I've never really worried about it on 'non-performance' brakes before, but I'll probably take the approach that I have previously for those rather than the rather lame 'take it easy for the first couple of hundred miles' that the service chap came up with. On the plus side, I can confirm that I can fit the kids seats in the back of an RC courtesy car - not the most practical, but pleasant enough. 🙂
  5. Was admiring one of these earlier when I picked my GS up after a bit of work. I can remember how much I disliked them when they came out, but I think they look great now! The mpg calculator on mine is the most accurate I've ever experienced, so hopefully yours will be the same...

  7. All fair points! As I said in my later post, the thing that really didn't work for me was the lack of refinement (in the F-sport - I can only go on the one they gave me!), and the fact that the ES (the closest you can get to a GS now?) is only available with this type of powertrain... Maybe they're significantly better in this respect than the NX equivalent? To be clear, It's not that it was a bad car, just that I'd have hoped it would be better given how much newer it was than my old thing. I'd probably have enjoyed one on the standard suspension a lot more, by the sound of it.
  8. I suspect it was indeed the F-Sport. I'm perhaps being unfair on the performance front - it would probably have seemed adequate if it was quieter and comfier, it just didn't stack up with the bizarrely sporty ride and nasty noise.
  9. NX300 ≠ GS450h I've just given back an NX courtesy car. The inferior ride (my 6yr old son called it 'the bumpy car') was disappointing given the relatively high-profile tyres and non-sporting remit, but the drivetrain was the main problem: it sounded like a diesel and was slooooow, whilst returning barely better mpg than my GS. I can't see me ever buying an NX anyway, but it doesn't make me exactly hopeful about the ES either, which would have been a candidate...

  11. Much like you can spend >£100K on a Toyota Lexus? I know where you're coming from but elsewhere in the world, people are less hung-up on brand names and recognise that GS are still good value (to the watch-liking weirdos of this world) when compared to the more 'prestigious' (Swiss) alternatives. Don't get me started on massive watches...

  13. John, sorry for the off-topic, but can you point me at anything which describes the 450h drivetrain in any detail - e.g. the two-speed auto you mention above?
  14. Don't you just love a bit of bodgery? A previous owner of my car had broken the linkage/hinge on the cupholder cover, and repaired it with seemingly whatever they could find in B&Q... Maybe not the most exciting update for anyone else, but it's nice to now have a new one fitted, and the actual cupholder insert present too 🙂

  16. Thanks! I'd read about needing to re-initialise the steering sensor, but not about anything beyond the process (from the user manual) that you can follow yourself. That's on my to-do list for next time it goes in... Incidentally (having been flicking through your thread!) can anyone tell me whether Lexus Hedge End are on the discount list for gold members?

  18. All good so far, but then it's still under an extended warranty (as well as the HHC) so rather less to worry about... I had the same concern as you, but apparently they're not actually that expensive to fix these days, and when you look at the costs involved with looking after the obvious alternative (a big german diesel), it was pretty much a no-brainer for me.

  20. Easy one first: as far as charging the hybrid battery goes, it's all self-contained. It isn't a plug-in hybrid, so there's no equipment (special or otherwise) needed. I've recently bought one so my opinion is based on research rather than significant first-hand experience, but whilst they're complicated things they seem pretty solid from a reliability POV. That one says it's been serviced, but where? If it's a Lexus service, it should have come with a hybrid healthcheck which warranties the hybrid battery for another year / 10K - which is nice. I say should, because my understanding is that the age limit on that has recently increased from 10 to 15 years, but the dealer I spoke to wasn't sure what would happen with cars which had effectively exceeded the limit and then been brought back in by the change. Things to look for: check the boot's big enough for your needs (it ain't big!), seized rear brake calipers, leaking shocks, rusty exhausts, obviously any warning lights/messages. And I'd certainly favour a dealer history on a car like this... Overall though, if mine got written off tomorrow I'd definitely be back in another ASAP. Love it.
  21. Quick update on the gearbox trays: from looking at pictures of used parts for sale, I believe there is a difference on the mounts at the rear between the GS300 and GS450h parts. Not conclusive, but it does make sense with a different gearbox to mount to!

  23. My car (2010 GS450h) is missing the engine and gearbox undertrays. I've had a quote from Lexus, but (unsurprisingly) it's eye-wateringly expensive... I have part numbers from them, but am tying myself in knots trying to work out whether there are any other candidates to find used parts from. I'm writing this as much to store my notes / clarify my thoughts as anything else, but any input would be appreciated! The numbers quoted for me by Lexus are: 51410-30161 main engine tray 51442-30171 gearbox tray Taking the engine tray first: From an online parts catalogue against my VIN number I had found: https://lexus-europe.epc-data.com/gs450h/gws191r/5066/body/5102/51441D/ ...which says that the part number is 51410-30160 - note the alternative final digit! I believe it also suggests that the part number for earlier cars (51410-30101) has been substituted with the number above, so I'd expect the earlier part to also be compatible with a later car. Anyone see any reason (deleted mounts on later chassis versions?) why this wouldn't be the case? Extrapolating further, an alternative source (https://www.lexuspartsnow.com/parts/lexus-cover-assy-engine-u~51410-30161.html) suggests that the same part is also compatible with an '06 GS300 - that makes me wonder whether actually ALL 3GS undertrays might be interchangeable. I also found a 51441-30401 for sale as from a 450h, and another as from a 300. If I just need one from any 3GS it will be rather easier for me to find a spare... On the gearbox tray: 51442-30171 - number from Lexus 51442-30170 - number from epc-data - last digit different again! Stated as '06- so I'd expect all 450h parts to be the same at least. Lexuspartsnow says that ...170 fits '07-'10 (and was replaced by ...172!) and ...171 fits '09-'11. ...150 and ...152 are numbers I've found for a GS300 but not found any evidence of overlap yet.
