  1. When strapping a kiddy in the back on a booster seat, if one pulls the belt right out completely, it goes into a sort of rachet mode, whereby it behaves like an old-fashioned fixed belt - i.e. with no 'give' in it. Thus activated, said sprog is firmly held in place. Sounds like this is what is happening here.
  2. I once unwrapped a brand new set of plugs, gapped them correctly, fitted them and had a misfire. After a lot of head-scratching and messing about, I discovered one of the plugs was duff. Just a thought...
  3. Aren't they in the Lexus UK website\Approved Pre-Owned\Vehicle Specifications\LS 400[say]\Performance Data? Mind you, they don't seem to give emission figures until the Series 3. Perhaps that's not old enough, of course.
  4. -And I wish they'd put in some spec figures for the LS430 Series 2 - apart from correcting the intro date for the LS430 Series 1 !
  5. Many thanks, Gents, for the responses. In the end, I meekly bought another ordinary 472 bulb from Halfords for £5.99. I wonder what Lexus would have charged to change it, on top of their silly £23 quote for the bulb? Hmm...
  6. Need a new h/lamp bulb for my '96 LS. It is the "High and Low Beam" one, a 60/55W H4. Price seems to be about £4.00. There are also supposedly brighter versions with the same wattage - e.g. Osram Silverstar, at about twice the price. Has anyone tried them? Are they an improvement? You see, when I rang Lexus, they wanted £23 each. Seems a bit absurd, even by their standards.
  7. Well, there's a thing. Strongly considering a Merc 320CDi estate for Mrs JellyBean, despite my great hatred of diesels. When I drove one, I was amazed. It really was awfully good.
  8. Think it's made by Pioneer. You see, it is identical in appearance to mine, but some pics I took when I had mine out (to send to Autosound to have display fixed) clearly show a label saying PIONEER. Of course, they may be identical from driver's seat, but different on the inside!
  9. Please tell us you are not going to drive the car without your seat belt.
  10. Bother! I just tried to swat an insect on my screen. Must be time to go to bed/wear glasses.
  11. There are VERY FEW postings here about major exhaust trouble - if any. It will be a gasket. Mine went (end of downpipe) and it cost £5. Why not give it a whirl? If you do and an find LS400 is not "you", you can always move it on. If you don't give it a try, you will always wonder what it would have been like.
  12. It will be a knackered element - I bet yer. Take them out, like wot I told you, and replace them. Don't give up - it's February, after all!
  13. Seems too good to be true. Presumably not fitted because of cost/reliability issues? Amazing, tho'. I do like the idea of vaulting speed bumps.
  14. Reminds me of the music hall artist Vernon Watson. He called himself Nosmo King. (If we haven't gone off topic...)
  15. Oh Dear You know how sometimes you get this word or phrase in your head (or even an ad slogan) and you can't stop repeating it to yourself? Well, I can't stop saying "RABNOOLAS". I hope it wears off soon.
  16. Not from me, you won't. I moved up here from Twickenham 22 years ago to start a new job AND NOW I CAN'T ESCAPE. Helppp...
  17. Well, on my 1996 version there are two screws at the very bottom, and this back cover comes off if you remove these and then pull it down a bit, where it slots in at the top. Hope yours is the same, Squire.
