  1. Yes, I have found that traction is better in moist conditions than it ever was with the Dunlops. Bah! to Which? magazine.
  2. Well, I always thought there were two heat pads per seat, but the local Lexus dealership parts man recently told me there was only one. What I do know for sure is that my driver's seat-heater was replaced by Lexus under warranty when I bought the car, and four years later it has failed again ! (1996 Mk 3)
  3. Who bought their LS first? Did your 430 encourage your bro to buy a 400, or vice-versa?
  4. What the fridge? Yes, and the four-wheeled thing the fridge sits in.
  5. This may help... Bearings are just bearings and it surely won't be a part only common to a Lexus LS. This is what happened to me last week: Central heating burner making horrible racket. Traced it to the bearings. Read the serial number stamped on one of them and typed this (and nothing else) into Google. Up came a company called Bearing Boys. I ordered a pair on-line and they arrived next day - £2.40 each. Now, I bet there's somewhere out there that can do the same for wheel bearings (Bearing Boys do tapered bearings as well). Just a thought.
  6. Welcome! Track rod is on end of steering, whereas wishbone is on the suspension. Someone more cleverer than I will no doubt put up some pics for you.
  7. Upgrading the audio in an LS 430 would be like having your Bugatti Veyron chipped.
  8. I had this prob on my 1996 LS and ended up going to Lexus. Bit costly, but they are very quiet in operation. Peace of mind is worth a bit, too.
  9. I love the sound! But it surely won't be long before the guy in the video gets shot?
  10. Love it ! About 30 yrs ago I met a guy with an Aunty Rover, who had fitted horns from a diesel loco (he worked for BR). The result was hilarious. Long harboured a secret desire to do the same. Prob not legal these days, I guess.
  11. Dunno, mate, but it must surely have one as horns can take quite a few amps.
  12. The trouble with putting a Viagra tablet in the tank is that the car gets all racey and is likely to overheat for a while. Actually, had same trouble on a couple of cars and it turned out not to be the horns, but the relay.
  13. Well, they seem very well made. But what's the point? They don't make the owner a more interesting/attractive/nicer person, do they?
  14. I think this is in danger of turning into The Four Yorkshiremen sketch...
  15. My garage has an electric door, too, but I am too modest to mention it here.
  16. I absolutely hate scraping ice off a car before I can drive it, so I built a double garage to house our two VW Golfs. But now we have a Golf and the Luxo Barge... well it is a tight squeeze. Have to get the LS right in the corner (with carpets on walls, just in case).
  17. It's about right. And still an absolute bargain for what you got. Had mine for over four years and it still gives me a little thrill (ooh-er, Mrs) each time I drive it.
  18. Looks good to me. It is most encouraging that there are people out there - such as yourself - who have done their sums and worked out that the lack of depreciation and low purchase price will mean that one can drive a luxury car for less than some horrid, new or near-new motorised diesel bedpan. Go on, tell us what you paid for her. (Whisper if you are a bit shy about this.)
  19. Short journeys are disastrous for fuel consumption - when engine is not at working temperature. I once got a call to investigate a chap's wife's Austin 1100 which was doing about 18mpg. I checked all the usual stuff and could find nothing wrong. Turns out she only used the car for the school run which was less than one mile each way !
