  1. Don't you have one of those crank handle thingies in case of electrical failure, or was it not like that ? I think I would have exploded, in the same circumstances.
  2. Thank you for your kind offer, Jim, but I think after eating an LS400 I had better forego pud and finish off with a Suzuki Cappuccino. (Sorry)
  3. Sound advice. Was in Lexus dealership this morning buying a cabin filter, and asked how much were the heat pads and elements for a driver's seat - '96 LS. Answer: £668. And then there's the labour charge. I remain speechless, exept to say that the £22 charged for the cabin filter suddenly seemed a right bargain.
  4. I live in Norfolk and a local firm just fixed my roof for less than £3k. If you think this is a good price and it would help you keep the LS ...
  5. Here's a question about door locking on a 1996 Mk 3... Driver's handbook says press key button once to unlock driver's door and twice to unlock all doors. But mine only unlocks all doors. Do any other Mark 3 owners have the ability to unlock just the driver's door ?
  6. I think Monsieur Skeleton should slightly change the colour of his 'signature' so it matches his car better.
  7. Well, that wee red kit car is built to a very high standard indeed. I would like to drive it ! Anyone know if is still using the Lexus auto g/box ?
  8. The LS 400 has an impressively low Cd, but considering its frontal area and its relatively modest power output, I think around 150 mph is about top whack anyway.
  9. There's a tutorial on it somewhere - on a US website, I think. It is one of those jobs which is daunting the first time you do it and a breeze after that. I could prob get mine out in 4 minutes now (and will have to as nearly all the illumination behind the buttons has gone). Someone will be along soon to point you to that tutorial, I am sure.
  10. I think if you have doubts about a car, this the best advice of all.
  11. It's all in the mind. The acceleration in 'Normal' can be just as fierce as in 'Power', but you just have to push the loud pedal further down. Time it in both modes with boot pressing into the carpet each time.
  12. Sir John With all due respect, it will accelerate just as fast in either mode, providing your foot is flat down. - Lord Jellybean
  13. Most likely because car had had a scrape and had NOT been repaired to required standard - i.e. been repaired outside the Lexus dealership, so to speak.
  14. YES ! If you are going to run a luxury car and its running costs are not paid for by someone else (e.g. your company) or you are not seriously well-heeled, then it's best to buy the most reliable one: Lexus. I upgraded from a Mark 2 Golf, buying my 400 from a Lexus dealership. The idea was to run it for just one year to get the fixation about owning a luxury car "out of my system". I am now entering my sixth year of ownership. In parts it has cost less than the Golf. Now is the time to buy one of these superbly-made wafting machines.
  15. Very clear. You could get a job as a technical author ! May I add something ? Using a clean, flat-blade scraper (c.50mm wide) to prise out the trim and air vents might be less likely to cause damage than a screwdriver. But it is one of those jobs which seems dead easy the second time you do it.
  16. Probably off topic, but I bought a Bosch drill which lasted - with heavy use - for 12 years. So I bought a Bosch replacement and it lasted 3 years. Part of it broke off the second time I used it...
  17. I was just thinking that yesterday about mine - and I've had it for five years. Driving it is always a 'treat'.
  18. Aforementioned 4-yr-old always asks for Baby Please Don't Go by Van Morrison - and I have to turn it up. Hopefully we can soon move on to something else as the repetition is wearing us (me & the CD) a bit thin.
  19. Many thanks for this: I only found the time to do it this afternoon ! I did better than the front seats, with £1.41, some small plastic toys, more biscuit crumbs than in a McVitie factory (mostly Mini Cheddars - we like our children to eat healthily), and a strange round phial of something liquid in a little plastic container with a snap-off end. It was quite a heave to get the front of the seats to pop out, although it would have been easier without a four-yr-old who kept trying to join me in the back, whilst asking "What are you doing?" several times over.
