  1. JD Power is not a pure reliability survey. It is a Customer Satisfaction Index - or something - and manuafacturers who bend over backwards to be nice to their customers do well, when their products may not be that reliable. E.g. Jaguar. A better survey for reliability would be to see AA/RAC breakdown stats, but these are not released to the public.
  2. Do you regularly have to straddle one of those wide speed bumps ?
  3. Unable to source the D8s, I now run on Falken Ziex. They are slightly more comfortable at low speeds and noticeably quieter than the Dunlops. Also, better traction in the wet. Well pleased with them !
  4. Sirry-Birry - it was poetic license. I am very good at speeling.
  5. My maintenance book says 60K mls but all the dealers say you should go by time (4-5 years) rather than mileage? My Lexus dealer sent me a letter which stated 100,000 MILES ! As I believe no-one has ever heard of this engine busting a cambelt, I would follow this advice. I intend to.
  6. I did that and they gave the rather shifty answer that they probably didn't have the required footage as they constantly rotated the places where they operated the CCTV. Should have pushed harder of course. When I thought about this later, I realised theirs was not really a feasible response as prang happened right outside their cash machines, where people had lost money recently thanks to some illicit recording device fixed to the dispensers - so they must surely monitor such an area 24/7.
  7. I only have an LS400 so my learn'd friend I rest my case. Lexus v Tesco im not legally minded but i think that; * if a person or company purchases hundreds of wheeled trollies, * without brakes or other means of stopping them traveling around freely. * knowing that their some of their customers will leave them outside unattended. * where they are free to roll about * sometimes at the will of wind or gravity * in a place where hundreds of thousands of £s of other peoples cars are parked * does not employ enough staff to collect said trollies to return them to a safe area then they should be held responsable for any damage caused by their trollies. It would seem to me that Tesco know that their trolleys will be left outside in windy conditions and that at some time, someone elses property will be damaged. My point is that they know that it will happen and they should take steps to mitigate the danger. Try leaving your car parked outside Tescos front entrance with the handbrake off. (just summising here, not a suggestion) When it rolls into the store crashing through the front entrance door who do you think will be to blame? Probably the fool who left an unbraked, wheeled vehicle unattended. I think that it is shoddy that supermarkets treat customers in this way. If your golf trolly or your little daughters toy pram rolled into the car of Tescos Chief Executive im sure me would hold you responsable to pay for the damage. PS. i am in no way suggesting the anyone should leave their vehicle unattended without applying both the hand brake and park brake. Thank you for these thoughts. I understand if I am to have any success in this, I have to prove negligence by Tesco. Well, I dunno who else was to blame ! I am wondering whether to ring my insurance company to see if they can offer me any advice - no claim to be made as my excess is twice the repair estimate.
  8. Delighted to get a 'result' for you. Only reason I knew was that when I first got mine, I couldn't open boot with the R/C, but after delving into the handbook - hey presto !
  9. A long shot - or journey - I know, but if you could enjoy a day in A Fine City, Roys Motor Company in Norwich were once the Lexus main agents and have serviced my LS for five years. They charge £45/hr. 01603 424877 But I know it's a bit far !
  10. Me too. Think I get the creaking bed analogy, but the pirate one ???
  11. Have you tried holding the boot-button down, instead of just pressing it once ?
  12. Yes, I am very aware of this point. I think I will try a bit more, be a bit of a nuisance, on the lines that the negligence of their trolley-collectors has meant they have breached the duty of care to their customers. I wonder what their position would be if the flying trolley had felled an old lady/couple of toddlers/a pregnant woman ?
  13. Hello LOC Members ! Was leaving Tesco's earlier this summer when CLANG, a trolley which was blown by the wind from outside the maiin entrance, dented rear door of Lexus. (Repair estimate = £240.) I went to Customer Services and a Vehicle Damage Form was filled in. After three phone calls over next few weeks, I got a letter today saying, in effect, "Your problem, mate, you park at your own risk". I maintain Tesco is negligent, not least as as their trolleys are not fitted with brakes. My question is this: Has anyone successfully pursued such a claim against Tesco, or know anyone who has ? Thanks - The Bean of Jelly
  14. I think it pretty unusual for both front AND rear seat heaters not to work. I would be surprised if were a case of all the heat pads having failed. When I was in the dealership recently on a sort of open day, we were encouraged to ask the Lexus technicians about any probs we had with our cars. I chatted to the guy about the seat heaters failing and he said it was often not the element itself, but the connection between the two pads (back & botty). I haven't got around to grovelling under my driver's seat yet, but as it gets colder and my Mrs smiles as her seat warms up, I will have a poke around - and will report if I find this connection was the problem.
  15. Look out, here's my two pennyworth... Instead of buying an early one for under £1,000, go for a good FSH Mk IV and pay under £5,000. It is a better car (it must be, otherwise Lexus/Toyota don't know what they are doing) and may even work out cheaper in the long run.
  16. I can't see where the new strips are ! Plase direct this purblind old git.
  17. A very rare model , only 1 was produced it had a special hyper warp button, unfortunately a tester pressed it & it went where no man has gone before , it never came back, some Idiot also left the plans in the boot & was later found dead ( it seemed he slipped & fell on a random sword) Well, that's great shame, but the new Brabus-tuned Merc S Class has 740bhp. That should do the trick.
  18. The '95 has 260Bhp standard and can do 0-60 in 7.9 secs which is quite impressive for a saloon car this size. I have also seen 7.4s to 60mph for a Mark 3 (Autocar). Sometimes I feel mine does 0-30 in about 7 secs and 30 to 60 in 0.4. Well, you know what I mean !
  19. You must be congratulated on having the only LS400 in the known universe that does 28mpg around town and 36mpg on a run.
