  1. Where has the DON'T CARE FOR THE NEW LAYOUT topic gone? Are we in China, or something?
  2. Almost certainly, it would be the only place they could put it. Although, putting the bolts in from the rear seems a bit obtuse. I remember some Jaguars had both the starter bolts joined together with a semi-circle of steel rod, so you ony needed to tighten the nuts without trying to get at the bolt heads. This said, starter replacement on an E-type was not for the faint-hearted - but probably a lot easier than on an LS. Odd for a starter to go wrong at only 70k miles?
  3. Good result. My main dealer quoted me over £900 for suspension work, but the car has passed three MOTs since without any mention of such work. Hmmm...
  4. Three years ago, I had one of these fail on my '96. It costs £4.50 if I remember. If you are doing the job yourself, why not get one from the Main Agent? The whole job cost me about £50 - less than a tank of fuel, even then.
  5. I just know I'm ultra thick too .............. but we must all be not so, coz we all own a LS400 ( I guess ), and that makes us probably the most astute of car owners ! Can anyone tell me what the LS400 cost in 1994 ? Would be nice to know how much deprecioation previous owners took on the chin for me to own my beautiful monster. Thanks guys. Malc £46k, I believe. I have some old Parker's Guides which will show exactly, but major redecorating is underway and all my books are in boxes. If people can be intelligent in different ways, then it figures that they can also be thick in different ways: for example, someone clever enough to become a barrister stating that history will judge Tony Blair alongside Churchill. I have a pal who earns about four times what I used to earn. But he drives ten-yr-old Jags which keep on breaking down! So we're not thick right through like the name in a stick of rock.
  6. I would like to volunteer to join the Thick Brigade. I mean, I just found CARS FOR SALE which I had never seen before...
  7. How many miles since the last belt change? The car has done 60000 since new and has not had its cambelt changed yet. I have read on this forum that other people's cars have gone beyond 100k without the cambelt changed. I woudnt want to do that coz I am a but of a perfectionist. If you know anyone who does a good services on Lexus cars in Essex, please advise. 'Fraid I dunno your area, as regards garages. But I would leave my cambelt change - were I lucky enough to own your car - until the 100k mark. And I used to be a mechanic.
  8. Certainly is. I had a letter last year from Lexus, stating it to be 100,000 MILES.
  9. I have never heard of an LS 400 timing belt breaking because of normal wear. If Lexus recommend changing at 100,000 miles, there will be a BIG margin of error built in. I seem to remember someone saying that his LS had just reached the specified mileage interval and was asking if it was alright to drive the car, as if the belt would snap at 100,001 miles!
  10. Hi. what about it? I don't think I'll be fitting original Lex parts if that's what you mean. I want to improve handling the of car. So I wont fit the same rubbish again. thanks. Jeff If you think Lexus parts are rubbish, I think you have bought the wrong car. Trying to make an LS 400 handle like a Subaru Impreza seems to me to be as odd as buying a Subaru Impreza and then fitting it with softer suspension.
  11. I thought Tel999's reply was ace. Made me chuckle and I think that is a Good Thing. Perhaps some people either have no sense of humour or too much self-importance?
  12. Actually - pardon me for saying - the Mk 3 and Mk 4 have very similar consumption figures. The Mk 4 may be some 75 kg heavier, but is higher-geared. I think the confusion arose because of a change in the driving cycles for the official government consumption figures. Also, a Mk 3 doesn't have traction control - and this can be a pain. The extra gear of the Mk 4 would be nice, too, as the step-off on a Mk 3 is rather leisurely. Mind you, I hate the Mk 4's wheels!
  13. Call me old-fashioned but I don't think you should be carrying bricks in a Lexus.
  14. Yes, certainly seems more believable than a TC connection, whatever Lexus mechanic said.
  15. I gorra Mark 3 and the Lexus Man told me it was for traction control (not fitted in UK). So there!
  16. Falken ZIEX are excellent - currently £94 (total) a corner at Black Circles. I am not the only fan on here who rates them.
  17. Autocar is witten by a load of sixth-formers who dislike Lexus: They rate the Maserati as a better luxury car than the 460 - absurd. They think the LS 460 comes in a LWB version - it doesn't and never did. They haven't yet realised that the LS460 (all versions) is being phased out - Lexus may even have made the last one already. Some time ago, on the cover of Autocar, it said "LS430 Road Test". This would have been for the Mk 2 version of the 430. Nothing was inside, nor did I ever read an explanation.
  18. Strength in numbers might help in this sad tale of shoddy build quality. Perhaps I could be added to a list of complainants as I noticed yesterday that my ashtray was full.
  19. I've had this login problem, too. It comes and goes - I have to log in for, say, two or three days, and then it's OK for weeks. And then back to logging in again. And so on...
