  1. Used the car for the first time in a week and even though the roads are a lot better I very nearly got stuck. I live on a fairly gentle hill and even with five 25kg bags of sand in the boot there is still very little traction from the rear wheels. Very nervous about taking it out on the road until the snow has gone tbh.
  2. No one is saying they haven't. doing 40 in a 30, or 50 in a 40, is not the same as doing 60 in a 30, or 80 in a 40. Not a difficult concept to grasp surely. Well whether you are doing 40 in 30 or 58 in a 30 zone if you hit somone there is only a 10% difference in whether you kill them or not. Police statistics state(whether you believe them or not) a pedestrian hit at 40 mph has a 90% chance of surviving so obviously at 58 mph that would be a 100%.For me its just not fair to say that 40 mph is not as bad 58 when the damage it could cause would be virtually the same. Whether you are doing 40 or 58 you are still in the wrong and if you hit someone you will kill them. I don't think that's what you really meant to say is it? If a pedestrian has a 90% chance of surviving being hit at 40mph then at 58mph the chances of surviving would be much less, certainly not 100%. I would imagine at 58mph it is 100% def that you wouldn't survive.
  3. I thought that 40 in a 40 zone was ok lol. I guess you really mean 40 in a 30 zone...
  4. Yeah and of course you and the rest here that are having a go him have never sped in the whole your driving lifes. We all do it and have done it somewhere in the past , so everyone get of your high horses. ...and your point is?? It's not a case of 'having a go' at him - and nowhere did I say I have never broken the speed limit. It's just that the OP is trying to find a way out of facing the consequences. If I had been caught speeding the last thing I would do is broadcast it. I'd just accept it happened and get on with it. Well my hole point is if you indeed do speed how can you even comment on someone else getting caught doing so and definately offering advice about staying within speed limits to me thats just being hypocritical. It could have easily been me you or anyone else on this forum caught doing it, I just feel its not a fair attitude to take I was simply pointing out that if you don't want to get caught then don't speed, it's as simple as that. Call me hypocritical if you like but as I've already said I would accept the consequences of my own actions without trying to find a way out on a possible technicality. With what you have there written there i would have agreed with you but its the tone that wrote your first post in and the school teacher style way you wrote it. Perhaps my tone was a little harsh but having seen the tragic results of both speeding and drunk driving I think the red mist descended a little Fair point as my grandfather was knocked down and killed by a drunk driver i know where your comming from. Now we have stop bickering i will wish you and everyone else on the forum a happy new year :D Same to you too

  8. Call me cynical but why do I find that statement hard to believe?
  9. Sorry but what's your problem - you were doing nearly TWICE the speed limit on a road that you knew had a 30 zone and you got caught. In my view doing 58 in a 30 zone is reckless if not dangerous driving - you said there are houses hence the 30 speed limit. Why did you feel it necessary to do such a high speed in what seems to be a built up area? Just accept that this time you got caught and accept the punishment. Perhaps you will learn a lesson from this, ie keep within the speed limits and you've nothing to worry about. Simples
  10. These are probably the ones, which I will go for - just I have found these sold by other cheaper even cheaper (40 quid in total with shipping!) - asked the seller - it is the same model spark plugs. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...E:X:RTQ:GB:1123 That's a good price, doubt you'll get them much cheaper anywhere else to be honest EDIT: flyeris, you might want to check out that sellers f/back... he has a lot of negatives
  11. Can I ask why you say that? The IS200 owners handbook says either Denso or NGK iridium plugs can be fitted
  12. I bought my NGK Iridium spark plugs from HERE and haven't had any problems with them. They are NGK IFR6T11 type, the ones that are good for 60k miles They charge £9.95 to send to Lithuania which makes a total of £45.95 which I think is pretty good.
  13. Glad you're pleased with them, sounds like they work very well. :D
  14. Thanks for all the advice - I'll probably opt for some snow socks as I can't really warrant the cost of a full set of winter tyres but thanks anyway The Transporter lenny123, I'll be interested to know how you get on with the snow socks you've ordered.
  15. As I can't get my car onto my driveway due the the snow and ice on my road I was thinking about getting some snow chains for my IS200. Can anyone recommend any?
  16. It's what Lexus recommended for the IS200 until they changed it to 60k a few years ago so they must have assumed it was good for 100k at one time
  17. Reading the article that flyeris posted a link to shows there are pros and cons to leaving the engine to warm up before driving. It never used to be recommended as it could cause excessive engine wear as stated in the article, not sure why but that used to be the thought. Reading the IS200 owner's manual it says to allow around 10 secs idling before driving off in above freezing temps - below freezing allow a few minutes warm up before driving. I can understand why people leave the car for longer, it's nice to get into a warm car, pity the heated drivers seat only starts to work when you sit on it!!
  18. Is that a good idea? I always thought it's best to start the car and drive it as soon as possible after - at least that's what used to be recommended, maybe it's no longer necessary...
  19. I've had my IS200 auto for 5 years and love it! The auto box is generally very smooth and because it's intelligent it adjusts to the individuals driving style. I guess that it all depends on the type of driving you do - if it's mainly motorway then a manual is probably fine but in town I feel the auto really comes into it's own. It's nice not having to operate the clutch every few seconds although I'll admit that I still do quite enjoy driving a manual on the odd occasion. Of course the downside of driving an auto is that they tend to be a bit more thirsty than the manual, but I see that quite a few manufacturers are now quoting very similar mpg figures for both types so that may no longer be the case. I have been driving for nearly 40 years and for the first 30 have always owned manual cars. Having owned first a Nissan Primera auto (poor auto box imho) and now the Lexus I def wouldn't go back to a manual out of choice.
  20. Can't agree with that statement. I think that compared with most other makes the Lexus customer service is, in most instances, one of the best around, at least in my experience over the last 6 years of owning one. If you mean that their prices for servicing and parts are more expensive than other makes then I would agree with you there. Also, because Lexus cars are generally more reliable dealers have to charge more for servicing and parts since they don't get much money out of doing repairs - or is that me just being cynical???
  21. Take a look HERE and you'll see that what you've been quoted is about right for a Lexus dealer. Try a good independent, should be a bit cheaper
  22. Here's another scenario that happened to me recently. Was stationary at a red light controlling roadworks. There were a couple of cars ahead of me and it was pretty obvious that the traffic lights had gone wrong and were stuck on red. After sitting there for some time, at least 5 minutes at a guess, the first car decided to go through them and we all duly followed. I guess I was breaking the law, but what else could I have done other than trying to turn around and take a different route?
  23. Can you possibly post a link to the geometry settings please - I've looked and can't find them on the WIM site.
  24. Got a quote today from one of the Lexus dealers near Manchester as it happens, see HERE I def think the OP is underpricing himself if he says he can do the job for less than half the price!
  25. Last two quotes Harrow area £1104 and from a Lexus dealer not a million miles from Manchester, £852 I think you are right Parthiban, this discussion has probably run its course
