  1. I can understand why you'd depress the clutch... but why put it in gear? Surely that's potentially asking for trouble? The car may lurch forward if your clutch engaged....? ....and you take the handbrake off! Seems like a recipe for potential disaster to me....
  2. Well worth a visit to see Tony at WIM, great guy and does a great job Your location says you are in Kent... can't be 200 miles to WIM can it as Chesham is around 115 miles from Dover according to Multimap...??
  3. I reckon the easiest thing to do is get two pairs of number plates made, one for everyday use and take a chance the plod might stop you, and another for the MOT. Voila!
  4. I spotted it myself but with hindsight should perhaps have taken it to another garage first. Learnt a lesson there :tsktsk:
  5. My pride and joy has only done 36,000 miles but had coolant leaking from the waterpump so just had it replaced by a local Lexus dealer at a cost of £561. Seems a bit steep as the pump only costs around £100 to buy. Wondered if this is about right or have I been ripped off as the pump seems to be easily accessible without having to tear the engine half to bits! The car is nearly 18 months out of warranty but was wondering about contacting Lexus GB for their thoughts (and a possible cost contribution?) What do you guys think or will I be p***ing in the wind? Thanks Graham
  6. I don't know of any independents in Herts but there is a garage called JEM on the Edgware Rd near Colindale NW London that service and repair Lexus cars if that helps. mishman used them a few months ago and thought they were OK (thread link)
  7. There is only one timing belt, the others are belts that drive the alternator, power steering pump, etc. As for the jerking when you start off I can't see how it could be the belts that are causing it or the tensioner for that matter If you say it happens in the wet or on hills then perhaps it is the traction control operating, does an orange light illuminate on the dashboard when the problem occurs? Try driving the car with the traction control off for a while and see if the problem is still there...
  8. Had both front fogs replaced and all 4 alloys replaced due corrosion... all done under warranty so can't complain In all other aspects in 3 years of ownership very happy :)
  9. edeath, bit surprised that Tony Bones and Kipling can't get one sooner... I got 4 new 17" SP9000's fitted a few months ago at Kiplings with less than a weeks wait. Maybe there's a shortage for some reason. Have you tried the online tyre sellers such as Mytyres or Valuetyres?
  10. IS300, guess your best bet is to call JEM and ask for a quote.... mishman, thanks for the info about your service. Just wondering why the job took 2 days, did they have to get in the parts or something?
  11. Its every 100k or 6 years I know it says 100,000 miles or 6 years in the vehicle service book but I think you'll find from previous posts on the subject that Lexus now recommend changing the cam belt at 60,000 miles or 6 years, whichever comes first mishman, might be worth contacting JEM who are just up the road from you ....they might be cheaper than Lexus for a timing belt change Called them this morning around £390 cambelt + oil service. Thanks for the tip car going in next week see how it goes. Did you get your cambelt and oil service done ok mishman? Would be interested in your thoughts of JEM and whether you'd recommend them?

Thanks for the tip car going in next week see how it goes. No probs, do let us know how you get on..... thinking of using them myself for servicing instead of paying Lexus prices. Wonder if they might do a discount for Gold members??

  14. Never seen that in my service book.... all I've ever seen is the dealer's stamp and the date and mileage when the service was done
  15. New number plate regs due in force on the 1st October and non compliance could mean an MOT failure.... VOSA
  16. This is a known problem but luckily it happened to me just within the warranty period so got them replaced FOC. If they are badly corroded your only option is to get replacements but be aware that a year ago Lexus wanted £120 + vat for each one! If you can source them elsewhere then it will save you some money. Good luck in your search :)
  17. Have just seen an ad in the latest issue of the CSMA Motoring & Leisure magazine for a waterless car wash system. I'm a little sceptical of the claims made by the manufacturers but, who knows, maybe it does exactly what it says on the tin. Has anyone tried it yet on their beloved Lexus? Their site is www.miracledrywash.com Graham
  18. Valuetyres are I believe an internet only company like Blackcircles and MyTyres so they will either deliver the tyres direct to you or to one of their approved tyre fitting shops of your choice. That's why they are cheaper :D
  19. Talking of tyres, has anyone bought tyres from a company called Valuetyres (http://www.valuetyres.co.uk) They are doing the Lexus Dunlop SP Sport 9000's for £89.28 fitted. Seems a bargain to me :D
  20. Not according to my log book ...states it as 237
  21. Seems to me you could solve your problem with the simple flick of a switch
  22. Hi, I have an IS 200 series brochure dated Feb 03. If you like send me a PM with details of what you want.
  23. If what you say is correct then surely it follows that using most types of spacesaver spare tyre must be illegal too. I'm surprised manufacturers are allowed to supply cars with this type of spare for the UK market if that is the case.
  24. Hi Simon, I'm surprised no-one has made the comment but I've always thought that using different size tyres is illegal unless specified as standard fit by the manufacturer and could possibly invalidate your insurance?
  25. I was looking through the LOC knowledge database and came across this info by Colin Barber that might help if you have Dunlop SP9000 tyres fitted: For a few years Lexus fitted Dunlop SP9000 tyres to the IS200 in the UK. These tyres were specially designed for the IS200 and differ from the standard SP9000 tyres available in the UK. They normally cost about £10 more over the standard version. The following information has been provided by Dunlop Tyres/Goodyear on the differences and how to tell the OEM and standard tyres apart: "The biggest differences in the 215 40 r 17 Dunlop SP9000 for the Lexus are internal. The tyres construction is tuned to compliment the way the car handles. The Lexus tyre is made in Japan while the standard SP9000 is made in Germany. Both tyres have stickers on the tread when new. They are removed when fitted. The sticker will say if the tyre is for the Lexus should it be the correct one. Should the sticker have been dislodged then look for made in Japan on the tyre." If the above is right then Bazza isn't totally correct in saying the only difference is the rim guard.
