  1. i think its time for u to but car parts mart and ring every1 in the country...should be able to find one...
  2. I heard Lexus GB is behind this recent spate of accidents...in a bid to get us all forking out on the IS250...
  3. If i remember correctly, power on an is300 is 218bhp, a s'charged pumps out 240-ish, but u have to wait for it to spool up...so what would be "faster" out of the two...or would there be little difference...?
  4. so what would be the 0-60 be on a turbo'd is with, say 240bhp?
  5. sorry, the title's supposed to say turbo vs super!!
  6. Right guys, i think the forum needs an up to date review of turbo and supercharged IS200's....everyone talks about em but i for one can't say i know much about em...so can we have some information up on here...be creative! power figures, when they kick in, general driving characteristics (over a standard IS?) fuel consumption, cost, and dare i say it...which is better, super or turbocharging?!
  7. I been told if a judder always aoccurs at around the same speed it's the balancing thats out...as the cars been parked up it may jus be the pressures though
  8. yeah apparently its behind the glovebox...hard to integrate a new amp wit the lex speakers...if ur gona do anythin...change the WHOLE lot!! If ur cars an x reg...they may change the unit even tho its (just) out of the extended 5 yr warranty...out of goodwill. Its worth a try!!
  9. If "private poor" is about £10200, then u shouldn't be paying more than i'd say about £11200-11400 for it. Did the RAC report mention whether it had ever been written off? The car's gonna need about £500 spending on it straightaway...repairs, servicing etc. And when it comes to sell, it'll be harder to get rid of. £11400 or wait for the next one... Also, use of a jig usually means a bent chassis doesn't it? Which isn't just reversing into a lamp-post!!
  10. Good quality aftermarket headunit, eh? Not as simple as that...i've had the same prob with my 99v is200...thought i'd do the same, but the lex unit runs thru a lex amp and then to the speakers...aftermarket headunits aren't compatible with this amp so you'd have to bypass it...and then the speakers wouldn't sound as good!! So u could buy a new headunit plus a new set of speakers. Lexus quoted me £800 for a new standard unit... cos it's out of the 5 yr warranty...so i've hooked up my iPod with a wireless iTrip transmitter for the timebeing!! If u have a solution let me know cos a dead battery on the iPod=no more tunes at the moment!!
  11. Yep, i have to agree...never take your car away til ur entirely happy...always get a courtesy car (if insurance cover allows) and never release it til ur happy with ur own car...that pisses em off!! Also, never collect it on ur own...take a crew of preferably burly geezers who know about cars and harass em even if ur car's mint...works every time
  12. Hi all, gonna be hiring a renault espace diesel and goin on a roadtrip thru europe before uni starts again..startin off in amsterdam, doin germany and france too. Anyone done a europe roadtrip previously or know of any "must-see" places??!!
  13. i dont think u can hook up normal speakers to a lex head unit. As far as i know every speaker runs from the head unit thru the lex amp, which helpfully doesnt support any speakers except lex speakers!! correct me if im wrong!!
  14. I bought my IS200 with one key...Lexus Stockport quoted me £315 to get 2 new sets of keys and all the locks changed i.e. doors, boot, ignition barrel and glovebox, which is pretty reasonable. Otherwise if u know a decent car alarm shop, they can re-program your remaining key and ignition system and sort u out with another key/fob (although this won't be a matching lexus key!)
  15. I've got an IS200 SE auto, foot down it'll give 90 miles out of £20, bout 80 on Shell Optimax. Good points include image...a lot of people have said "think you're too good for a Beemer?!" The interior, while receivin a slating from a lot of ppl on here, attracts compliments from all passengers. Kit levels are extremely high, don't bother with an S as you'll miss the toys, it's the kit that makes BMW drivers envious. I think the only downers are fuel consumption and performance...don't have any traffic light grand prix's..as i found out just about any civic will whoop you to about 50-60. Oh yeah, my mate's BMW 523 is faster, crackin 60 in 8 secs, and to my dismay, gives him 160 miles outta £20 all day long no matter how he drives. Also i've found the low-pro's on the 17's a bit of a pain, i tend to get a new puncture every month!! (and it's about £110 for a decent tyre). All in all, good fun.
  16. Hi all, Had a slight mishap, doin a 3 point turn on a road with TOO much camber, pavement was at a stupid angle to the road resulting in the rear (reversing) end scraping it. Got home, it was dark, felt the bottom edge of bumper, everythin seemed ok. Drove it for a few days, came to cleaning it and noticed the absence of the exhaust....turned out the backbox had jammed itself up on its bush behind the bumper, with the exhaust conveniently melting itself a new exit outta the rear bumper... The damage isn't huge, the o/s curved part of the normal exhaust exit has cracked and melted, but thankfully the extent of the damage is limited to the very bottom of the bumper i.e. the "lip", sorry i haven't got any pics. Anyone have any idea as to whether this can be repaired, and how much it would cost to get a half decent job done? Alternatively i was thinkin of gettin a small rear lip bodykit for the back bumper as this would disguise the damage. Any ideas...??
  17. Do wider wheels/tyres make matters worse, i suppose there's greater surface area for the car to err.."float" over the water?? Hmmm i suppose i could always slow down...but the guy in the banged out H-reg renault 19 with its crappy 14" steel rims flew right thru it without skipping a beat..or so it seemed anyway. Are 13's on an IS200 the way forward?!
  18. Hi people, Was driving down the M60 around manchester, it had been raining quite heavily (now there's a surprise) so there was quite a lot of standing water especially where the road surface had large shallow dips. You know whats coming..the inevitable fly-through-massive-puddle-moment when the car feels light and as if it's sliding out of lane...a true sphincter tightening moment that i think is described as aquaplaning. It happened to me a few years ago on a country lane in my old civic and that resulted in the car flying across the opposite lane, miraculously missing a Focus estate, 2 trees and a fence. So thought it was high time i found out what the correct thing to do in this situation is...let off? Brake? Accelerate as if the puddle wasn't there? Left-foot brake? Handbrake it?!! Anyone know?!
  19. Hi people, I've not really been that active with the replies as of yet, still tryin to figure out what to do about the bloody ERR3 on my 2000 is200 se auto!! Had it for about 2 months, Lex ownership (Lexership??!!) has come after 4 years with a Civic (i feel that love Niraj!!). Well, i'm still a student, living at home and studying Dentistry at Manchester University. No mods been done yet, student loans don't stretch that far...i think i'll save em all for when i graduate next year and join the rat race (i'm really feelin that 600 bhp supra motor, mat!). Anyway, nice to know that all LOC members possess REAL names too!! Keep this thread going! Aftab
  20. well when i was lookin to change from my old civic, a quick survey askin all the girls i know (uni students, may i add...) what i should change to resulted in an almost unanimous result..."Lexus, Lexus, Lexus"
  21. Thanks lads, much appreciated. I'll have to save up...keep u guys posted tho!! I'll try gettin sum pics up as well!
  22. Hello people, new to the forum jus upgraded from a civic to my first lexus..a mint is200 picked up off some grandad for £6500..on a v reg with 26000 miles and full Lex history!! Just wanted to know if the xenon lamps, say off an is300, would fit straight on to mine...or would other parts be needed? I've been told a separate "converter" unit also needs to be fitted outside of the headlamp itself?! Any guidance would be appreciated!!
