  1. I religiously inflate my tyres on my IS220d to Lexus specs, 38psi rear and 35psi fronts on R17s. I have now had both a set of Avons and now Goodyears both wear out (very quickly) in the centre of the tyre, i.e. from over-inflation. My issue is that I do not over inflate I follow Lexus recommendation to the letter. The front tyres wear perfectly evenly at 35psi, same brand etc as rears. Once after a service at Lexus, even the tech only inflated the rears to about 35 from memory and I just thought they had got it wrong.. It seems to me that the recommended pressure for rears is simply not right. comments?
  2. Bridgestone do not seem to be making the Potenza RE031 tyres which were specially made for the RX400h. Even UK tyre suppliers whose websites say they still have the tyres cannot actually supply them (i.e. they are out of stock). What other tyres are recommended instead?
  3. I'd like to see what tyres people would recommend for my sport cross. MOT is due next week and I know should be replacing all 4 corners. I do a lot of motorway miles daily in all weathers and i'm not afraid to carry heavy loads. I'm generally drawn towards Avons as a brand, I run them on my bike.
  4. My insurance has offered to insure my tyres against accidental and malicious damage, at a cost of £89 for year This entitles to 4 claims per year. Tyres must be legal and cost less than £250 (they do a similar policy for tyres that are over £250, but the premium rises to - I think - £109) Excess is around £30 You can claim as soon as the policy has been paid for and activated, which means that you could take the policy out and claim against it the day you have a puncture. Seems like a no brainer but... Thoughts anyone?
  5. Does anyone know if Michelin's new Cross Climate and the forthcoming Nokian Weatherproof tyres are available in the standard RX size as yet? They get good write ups...by Honest John.
  6. Hi I purchased my Lexus IS250 Advance on a 2011 plate a couple of weeks ago and i am looking forward at the servicing and maintenance options. I love the car so far and its a real pleasure to drive with the auto option. I only do apx 5k miles per year so is it really necessary to have the car serviced or the oil changed every 12 months now that most vehicles have either fully or semi synthetic oils in use. Do most people use the main dealerships for servicing and if so is it worth paying to become a gold member of the forum to get a discount. In 18 months time the car will be 5 years old so is it worth waiting for the next major service at that time when the price of a major service drops to under £300. Lets talk tyres, the current ones are Dunlop sport maxx and have done 23k so will probably need replacing in 5k miles. has anyone changed to what they consider a better option. I wouldn't really want higher levels of road noise so if sticking with the dunlops is the only option then so be it. I changed from Dunlop to Vredstein on a previous car and they were the best tyres i have had for wear, road holding and wear. Thanks in advance for any potential tips or comments on the subjects above or any other useful snippets of information. All the very best to all on this forum for the New Year.

  8. Good day, I'm the owner of an IS300 Sportcross with staggered wheels, 215 and 225/45 r17. I'm looking for a complete set of tyres for all-year round use in Southern Scotland and came across the Nokian zLine tyres. They have very good reviews but aren't well known here (Swedish company, they are one of the best winter tyre manufacturers and have been around for a very long time). Anyone have any experience with these tyres?
  9. Hi, new so please excuse if this isn't appropriate but.. I've been trying to find some info on the forum about winter tyres. I'm a new owner of a 2005 RX400h which needs new tyres. I have convinced myself that I'm best to get some winter alloys and tyres as a spare set. Have honed in on the Continental SportContact5 for the summer tyres, but... Does anyone have 4x alloys they want to sell onto me (Farnham area)? which I can put some winter tyres on? Will try on ebay if not. Thanks, Nicola
  10. Hi guys, I was looking for some winter tyres as I would like to change my 4 season Hankook Ventus tyres (they are pretty loud and I am not sure how good they will be in snow). I found Nokian tyres with Lexus wheels. Tyres are at 95% (barely used). The set is from a 450h (owner bought 19 inch wheels instead). (5*114,3mm, 7x18 wheel) Tyres are 235/60 R18 107V I am not sure they will fit my RX400h as the standard size is 235/55 R18. Do any of you use 235/60 R18 tyres on an RX400h? Thanks
  11. ExLegnum

    Hi!

Hi guys, hope we're all well. OK after the gearbox on my Legnum decided to die (not uncommon ;) I thought I'd go for something that gave me the space and room that didn't break! I'm off to grab my new baby on Thursday, 2004 IS300 sportcross. Just a quick question, I know (or at least think I do) they should run 215/45/17 front and 225/45/17 rear. At present she's running 225/45 all round, how much of a problem is this?? I understand all the rolling diameter and the like, was just wondering whether it's a bad idea to run as is for the moment as they're pretty much brand new (and decent brand) tyres. Has anyone had experience with the slightly wider fronts on? Apologies for being a typical newbie and jumping straight in with a question!! Cheers, Brad.
  12. Hi Everyone Just bought a 2006 iS220D which I really like, that is until today when I drove in extreme wet weather conditions over my normal commuting route to a friends house, but when it came to cornering round two fairly easy bends, both at approx 30mph, the rear end starting sliding, thankfully the Traction Control kicked in and bleeped, after the second bend I slowed to a crawl going round bends! My first reaction being logically it is a tyre problem, treads were good on all 4 tyres, but they are budget tyres, Googled the problem and lots of advice to buy good quality tyres to overcome this wet weather slipping issue. Having read dozens of tyre reviews, I am more confused than ever, can anybody share their experience, my faith in the car was shaken today, but I am prepared to buy good quality tyres in the hope it will resolve this worrying safety issue. Many thanks in advance of your response
  13. When I first bought my IS300 the tyres were a bit ropey and were suffering from the standard geometry setting problem of front tyre, inside edge wear. So a new set of Bridgestone RE040 and a trip to Mr Bones at WIM soon had me thinking what a lovely set up I had. Well a few years later, a few replacement Bridgestones later and a few years of daily toil over the speed bumps in the most speed bump infested local authority in the UK (Ealing) I found nasty inside edge wear had returned and taken a pair of fronts to an early death. This time I queried tyre choice with a few friends in both the tyre and performance industries. No real consensus but after a lot of consideration I chose Continental Contact 5's This was closely followed by a visit to Doctor Bones surgery for corrective adjustment. Cant believe how transformed the car is. Without getting too anal about it, the softer tyre walls means ride comfort is so much improved and road noise is hugely down, I couldn't believe such a quiet car to begin with could be so improved. And thanks to Tony, hopefully a decent lifespan. A visit to WIM, the trip all IS200/300 owners should treat themselves to.
  14. hi ive got 225 45 17s on the back and 215 45 17s on the front , this is how i bought the car , the spare was a new 215 45 17 and i put that on the front , well over the last few weeks ive noticed that the inner rears have worn bald and the fronts are getting really worn aswell , ive got 6.5mm on the outside of the fronts and 3.0mm on the inners up to now , ive heard of a guy called tony that setts these cars up but i think hes on london somewhere , ive also heard that lexus or national tyres settings for the tracker are wrong , where could i take it reound me , im near chesterfield or sheffield , can anyone help? just had 2 part worns fitted to the rear and he took them off and to my amazement they were down to the wires , not good to say id just been on hol in it.
  15. Hi I'm new to this forum and to Lexus in general, have an is200 04 SE since November. Got new rear tyres last week (Semperit Speed Life 215/45/R17) as they were the best that the garage had. The mechanic fitting them also did the tracking and told me he couldn't get the tracking and the cambers both in spec so he got the tracking in with the cambers slightly out. Ever since the car has been all over the place on the road, the smallest bump throws it everywhere and it's also oversteering a lot. A friend told me to check the pressure and it was at 35psi on all of them. I brought this down to 30 psi but haven't tried it on country roads yet (where its most noticeable). But if the pressure reduction hasn't changed it, just wondering if anybody else has experienced this and has any suggestions? What should be the correct tyre pressure be?
  16. Hello everyone, I need an advice on tyres. I have a 2008 RX 350 and I need a new set of tyres. Unusually car is on 17" wheel currently fitted with 235/60R17 102H tyres. I've been looking around for a good tyres that are quiet and handle good in dry and wet weather. I wouldn't mind downsizing to 225/60R17 99V/H as this is what this car should have had. I do not mind the cost or brand. I've checked all tyre review sites etc but opinions about the same tyre can vary from excellent to poor hence I cannot take it as a good source of advise. I would like to know what's your experience with similar, not necessary the same, tyres and can you recommend one or two tyre models. Please help! Thank you very much in advance.
  17. Sorry for asking two questions, On tyres, my is250 sport (06) has different width wheels and tires at front and back, 225 at front, 255 at back, otherwise 18 inch with profile 40. Can I ask has anyone got the Dunlop sports max tt summers tyre, and what they think of it? Can anyone please recommend an all season replacement for all 4 and where I could get them? Separately, given how awkward these wheels and tyres are, can an is250 sport be fitted with 17 inch wheels, which I am sure provide better comfort than the stuff sport set up, in other words is it possible to downgrade from 18s to 17s, even though they are different widths. Lexus LpL quoted nearly a grand for 4 new dunlops (the name of the maker, Dunlop, is as much detail as they were able to provide). Thanks in advance for any tips,
  18. Hi all I started this topic on Wheels & Tyres but no takers so I thought I'd try on here. Any thoughts welcome. http://www.lexusowne...=0
  19. As the weather is supposed to get warmer I thought it was time to think seriously about next winter. Last year I ran the 220d on ordinary tyres and it was no great problem as it's fairly flat here and we didn't get too much snow. This year it will be an is250 and I read a lot of talk about the lack of grip so I was thinking maybe of finding some all season 18" tyres. My reasoning is that I have nowhere to store winter/summer tyres and in any case I'm reluctant to have tyres changed and wheels balanced and all that clatting about twice a year. In theory it would be better to have two sets of wheels but again storage is the big problem. So, does anyone have experience of all season tyres especially on the is250? Are they any good? Are they much noisier? Are there any makes to go for or avoid? Also posted here - http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=77460
