  1. Stan. Was there no reference to the wiring etc. in the DVD I left in the car for you ?
  2. Stan. So pleased you are enjoying the Old Girl. I have written to you separately. Amazed about the bomb detector. I have come up with a theory. I believe the current number plate is from Northern Ireland (although I bought the car in London). Maybe it belonged to someone who had prominent affiliations to Northern Ireland and the 'Troubles' I glad I did not know about the bomb detector whilst I owned the car as I would have worried that they were after me !
  3. Thank you Vlad, John, Linas and Colin (I am honoured - big chief) for all your replies. Whereas I shall surely miss my LS400 this is250 will hopefully fit the bill for an eighty year old.
  4. Hi is250 owners. I am just in the process of selling my 1999 Mk.4 LS400 and am buying a 2012 is250 Advance. Anything I should be aware of? What is the difference with an Advance compared to a standard model ? The new car will take some getting used to as I had the LS400 for 12 years. Any advice would be appreciated.
  5. I went away on holiday shorly after my posts on the coolant guage. As always I diconnected the battery. On return. and after reconnecting the battery, the guage is acting normally. Battery disconnection seems to solve a number of problems. I now am being told by my better half that the car is too big and we need something smaller. I shall try to sell it on the forum as I am a gold member.
  6. Thank you all for your responses. Might start by giving it a bit of a slap above the dash. Always works when the speedo gets stuck. Will keep you informed.
  7. It has been a long time since I last posted. Moved from London to Tunbridge Wells three years ago. Only LS 400 in town so easily recognised (sometimes too easily !) The temperature guage on my LS 400 (1999) 156K miles has just started to play around. It fails to rise initially and then from time to time, during a journey, will flick on and show the expected temp.and then go back to zero again. Should I be worried ? Could it be the thermostat ? Your advice please.
  8. I seem to be missing the centre logo from one of my hub caps (standard Mk4 hub cap) Does anyone have a spare one, or indeed the whole hub cap - any condition- that I can buy ?
  9. David. It's engine speed. I am hoping to have an indie look at it in the next few days.
  10. Bless you all for your responses. I have decided to get a second opinion next week. I discovered that the first indie had just used a stethoscope and had not bothered to look any further. Malcolm - it has done 150,000 and yes, I am wedded to the LS range. George. The tick-tick increases with RPM.
  11. Stuart. I thought it might be the serpentine. I had it replaced about 4 years ago. I am going to try another indie and see what he says. I am too old to go fiddling about in the engine compartment. I have used the car almost every day for the last nine years and have looked after it. George. If it is the lifter is that a huge job. i.e. would it be worth it ?
  12. Advice Needed - LS400 Mk iv My LS 400 MK iv has just developed a 'tick tick' noise - increases with acceleration. Took it to my local indie (don't know how good they are) and they said that without stripping it down (3 to 4 hours they said) they could not know for sure but thought it was the camshaft making the noise. I love the car but can not afford to spend a lot of money on it. Your thoughts please.
  13. Cliff. I wonder if you had realised that the steering wheel has a tilt mechanism. On the mark 4 it is a small square lever on the left of the steering column. Don't know about your model. You can press up or down for tilt.
  14. Pete, I think you might be right about the fuel because the problem seems to have gone away (fingers crossed) after refilling with petrol. Surprising as it was BP.
