Hi Guys

My IS200 seems to shake on the motorway above 60mph. I had the front wheels balanced but this didnt seem to help the gearstick also waggles about at this speed. The steering wheel dosnt shake so im a bit confused.

Any help is appreciated

Thanks

Marc

If there's nothing through the steering wheel I'd check the balancing of the rear wheels as well to begin with. Could be a sticky caliper as well.

If the caliper/slidepin is sticking, the brake remains partially on and the disc start to overheat and warp, and that starts the vibration. As it cools (and the pad eventually retracts or wears enough) the vibration subsides. I would say it is more prone on the front of the IS, as there aren't any slidepins on the rear. No idea if the rear calipers are prone to sticking.

If you can't feel anything untoward through the steering wheel, I would tend to point towards the rear.

Take your wheels off and put them back on, making sure when you tighten them back up to carefully tighten each opposite nut up a little at a time.

This will ensure that the wheel is centrally located on the hub.

I had this exact same problem last week, I thought the balancing was out, but just ended up that the wheel wasn't centrally mounted.

Another issue you could have is a bent wheel. You can diagnose this by swapping the front and rear wheels to see if the shaking moves onto/off the steering wheel when the wheels are swapped.

i had this issue once. turned out to be a my drivers side calliper has seized up, so i got them re-cond and all was ok. i found out due to the massive amount of heat coming off the disc when i parked up.
