Gearbox Oil And Diff Oil - Advice

I've just had a the spark plugs, air filter, oil & oil filter, pollen filter and brake fluid changed on my IS200.

However I wanted to know how often does the gearbox oil and diff oil need to be changed on an IS200?

What make should I use and how much will I need?

Is there anything else that needs to be changed? The coolant did not need changing.

Thanks

Coolant is every 2 years/20k

Transmission oil is 4 years/40k

Diff oil is every 2 years/20k

Thats according to my service book. Check your power steering fluid. Lexus told me this was ok for the life of the car! I disagree, I have lumpy steering so going to change mine this weekend following advice on this forum :)

I have a duplicate service book and it does not have any information for the IS200, thanks for info.

I will definitely get transmission and diff oil done as I have no idea if these have been done or when they were done.

Is this something I can get from Lexus? If not, how much will I need and what make should I get?

You can get anything you need relating to the car from Lexus dealers through their parts department. You can pick them up, they'll call you when your order has been delivered or they'll courier it to you (for extra £££'s of course) you can pay over the phone using your card saving you a trip to the dealer.

I don't know how much you will need but they will tell you. Even if you don't buy it from the dealer. I got them to change it all for me during the service. Wouldn't have a clue how to do it myself!

Thanks for the tip. I will call the parts departement tomorrow. They have been very helpful whenever I've spoken to them.

I've not changed any of the parts myself. I would not have a clue where to begin. I've had the car serviced at the same place that looks after my BMW, because of the quotes to service the Lexus from some of the other local garages. One quoted me less than the cost of the parts, and his price was supplied and fitted.

Only issue of using my BMW specialist is that he is a BMW specialist, but he is trustworthy, knowledgable and reliable.

Gear oils i change every year its only a few litres and costs less than a new gearbox or diff work

The transmission oil is a GL4 And a GL5 oil thats used

every year when its drained it dirty as expected started doing this on many customers cars sevral years back and seen a huge decrease in gearbox repairs and issues there after......

Can anyone recommend a Gearbox oil and Diff oil? I spoke to Lexus today to get prices and the gearbox oil they only sell as a 5ltr & works out to £52 + VAT but you only need approx 2ltr and has to be Type4. My local Lexus dealer could not provide a quote for the Diff Oil it was something they would need to look into.

I've looked at the link sent by Lance but that is for a manual, mine is an auto. On Opie website they have said that Mobile ATF 3309 can be used where Type 4 has been recommended. Has anyone used this or have any experience of this?

Diff Oil I was told by Lexus has to be 80w 90, any recommendations?

if its for an auto Lexus nothing else matches Toyota Type T IV gearbox oil for diff any 75W 90 or 80W 90 should be ok. Castrol 75W 90 oil was used for my diffs when i had my fluid changes done last year. i think i still have another 10,000 miles to go before both gearbox, diff and brake fluids needs doing again as i get mine changed every 20K.. to keep them fresh. as confirmed fluid changes works out cheaper than gearbox or diff repairs.
